Citizen Kane - Great as always, and I was really impressed by some of the camera work that I hadn't noticed before. It was an assignment for one of my classes. Sadly, I was one of the few people who had seen it before and the only person who likes it in the class, left to defend it alongside the professor.

I hope this class is not a film class. I would say that Citizen Kane is the one movie that gets better everytime you watch it. (I have seen about 8 times including both commentaries.) It has probably the best b/w cinematography ever (The Third Man is close with the man, Welles acting but not directing.) but the story is almost Shakesperean. The story about a man who has unbelievable success, wealth and power is brought down by his weaknesses and failures. One could say Welles, probably the most talented man in film ever, lived out a version of this story.

I have Breathless and did enjoy it although it is very unusual.

Ocean's Twelve - I have to say that the bit where Julia Roberts plays Tess playing Julia Roberts is great. Especially when she goes ga-ga over Bruce Willis. This is definitely a personality-driven rather than a plot-driven movie (kind of like they used to do back in the olden days)

Oh I watched Lord or War yesterday. I thougt it was pretty good. It had a couple of good laughs. I give it a 3.5 out of 5 rating.

Wallace and Gromit: the case of the were-rabbit
I extremely liked the movie--and even though I was tired, I was really INTO the movie! It had a lot of laughs! And the Madagascar Penguins were hilarious as well, or rather..the short before the movie! (I'm being <a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... etitive</a>...)

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride - Fun fun and more fun! I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Songs and score were terrific, and the atmosphere achieved was amazing! If only every director knew how to create such a strong atmosphere. I found the story to stretch a bit thin near the middle but it quickly picked up speed from there! Terrific characters, and a great cast of voices. Jonny Depp is great! Overall 8/10! Great fun, but I'm not sure how it'll hold with repeat viewings...

Watched:

The Third Man - (10+) Just got the Criterian version of this movie and it was worth it. A masterpiece in foreign noir film making as everything, the direction, script, cast, the zither soundtrack, and b/w cinema is perfect. It is among my top ten films of all time and would recommend to anybody. If you have not seen it, be careful of the SPOILERS as it hurt your enjoyment of the movie.

The Racket - (5) A medicore noir film that has an endless number of characters and soap opera situations. (In many ways it is similar to Heat in contrasting the gangsters with the cops.) I hate giving it a low rating because it does have the icons of noir, Roberts Mitchum & Ryan.

The Hitchhiker (eight) - A classic "B" noir showing a murdering hitchhiker making two guys lives hell. Great stuff.

Royal Wedding (7) - Terrific Astaire picture with two of his best dance sequences ever. Unfortunately, I have a poor PD version.

Wow! Someone else knows about "The Hitchhiker". Great movie with William Talman and Frank Lovejoy. It was all filmed in my home town of El Centro, California and down by the Calexico and Mexicali border. Very good movie.

I just watched The Great Scout and Cathouse Thursday with Lee Marvin, Oliver Reed, Kay Lenz and Elizabeth Ashley. One of the funniest westerns ever made, second only to "Cat Ballou".

Also watched The Challenge with Scott Glenn, James Shigeta, and Toshiro Mifune. Great martial arts film from the 70s about a missing Samurai sword. Lots of good insight to the training for a Samurai warrior.

Also watched the last five cartoons on The Ultimate Goofy Collection tin box set. Love those Goofy cartoons.

I am excited to hear somebody notices the noir films of the '40s. I enjoyed The Hitchhiker and probably will get a "reputable" DVD to better experience the movie. (I got a PD version on a collection so I don't think of it as double dipping.) I love noir and the Hitchhiker is probably my third favorite "B" noir after Narrow Margin & the masterpiece of Poverty Row Detour.

Otherwise, I have Cindrella & Hitchcock Masterpiece coming today. (Darn the Post Office taking Monday off.)

Gone in 60 Seonds: Directors Cut

I watched it twice!!!

Yesterday, I watched SHAFT. I have never watch the original before or the sequels.

I watched the Shaft remake with Samuel L Jackson in 2000.

I brought them both at Best Buy last saturday.

I like remake much better than the original.

Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School

Like all Scooby movies I enjoy it. I like the late 90's/ early 00 movies better but the 80's ones had a special charm to them.

Varsity Blues on Friday - One of those movies of my generation that I never saw... until now. I get why it was such a big deal in middle school or wherever I was when this came out and everyone was crazy about it, but it's really a very mediocre movie. Entertaining, sure, but very overdramatic. Voight was good, of course. At least I've finally seen it.

Bruce Almighty on Saturday - A really clever comedy. I'd forgotten certain parts that were very funny. This Evan Almighty should be interesting.

Independent Media in a Time of War today - Brief documentary that I was assigned in a class. Lots of convenient quotes with no context and highly suspicious editing. An opinion piece from beginning to end and I didn't much care for the opinion, nor did I find very much of it convincing.

The Searchers today - I'm not normally one for westerns, but I really liked this. It was a little hard to follow, and that may have had something to do with the fact that I watched it on a crappy VHS. That's all I could find without buying it. This makes two westerns in a row now that I've really enjoyed. Go figure.

Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, again.

Watched two great movies:

Unleashed - the unrated edition with Jet Li, Bob Hoskins, and Morgan Freeman. This was a blind buy, but I am not disappointed. Really good story and ultra-violent towards the end. Good movie.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - I promised my wife if she watched "Unleashed" with me, I would stay up and watch this film with her. Wow!! I really liked this film. Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, and Blake Lively tell the story of a bond between four friends that is held together by a pair of pants they buy in a store. Four seperate stories all tied together wonderfully in a totally entertaining movie. I highly recommend this for everyone, especially couples who watch movies together. I really liked this movie, maybe even better than my wife did. Don't know what this says.

Batman Begins - Watched it yesterday. P-E-R-F-E-C-T! I love this movie. I'm watching it again today with surround sound and a big screen! Yay!

That good, huh?! I've heard great reviews about this, but nothing that sounds like yours dvdjunkie! Wow, the movie sounds interesting now...I'm tempted to blind buy this...!
