Hm, I have read lots on the Grimm's, and I swear in the original the queen danced until she fell down dead. I think Disney edited it/found a less gruesome version of it...

I am glad to hear what I thought was true, that the Prince came for Snow White many years later, so she wasn't only seven when he married her! Also, apparently he takes her coffin because she is beautiful, but says he loves her only after she wakes up and shows some, well, life.

And she is still only beautiful because of her hair, skin, and lip color, and red cheeks that show life. Anyone could look like that from dye to makeup to walking outside in winter. And it means if you have any other color, those can be beautiful too, because everyone looks different and it is opinion if you prefer black, blonde, brown, red...

She did. I'm not sure if the text on the 2001 DVD got it wrong or goofystitch misunderstood, but every version I've known (sans Disney obviously) said that she danced until she died. I mean, I guess admittedly dancing for the rest of your life while wearing hot iron shoes would make a pretty short "rest of your life", but there you have it.

I for one always wish that scene was included, just to see Disney's Snow White giggling girlishly as the Queen screamed out in blood-curdling agony. Had Disney REALLY wanted me to double-dip, they would have animated that little afterthought.

I didn't misunderstand. The version on the Platinum Editon says "...and she danced for the rest of her life." Perhaps there were multiiple versions or translations of the original Grimm tale? It would be weird for Disney to edit it and remove the Queen's death since she dies in their version.

There may be multiple versions now, but the original German was dance 'til you die in your smokin' metal shoes. It's not that weird for Disney to remove it, given that while the Queen kicks the bucket in the film, it's much less... gruesome than jumping about in hot metal booties.

I guess what I mean is that I think Disney edited or found that different version because it means Snow White and her Prince didn't watch the queen die from their own doing but just punished her with dancing in hot shoes...

I never understood why they would invite her and then do that most horrible, horrible thing. Yup, I prefer the Disney version and it's kinder Prince and Princess.

I think I finally have an answer to this. Over in the forum on blu-ray.com, someone pointed out that most of Warner Bros. Blu-Ray releases of films made in fullscreen in the late 30's/early 40's windowbox the opening credits (Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, etc...). The reason that Warner does this is to ensure that overscan doesn't cut off words. So on a film like Snow White where the credits get close to the bottom of the screen and with the whole opening where you read from the book, they probably windowboxed it for the same reason that Warner does.

I'm so confused. How would your preorder plus the coupon make Snow White only $2.50 at Best Buy? You already paid $7.50 towards it, so $24.99 - $7.50 = $17.49 - $10 coupon = $7.49. You can buy one of their advertised Blu-Rays for $30 and get a $15 gift card, but it can't be applied to this purchase. So if you do this, your total on Tuesday will be $37.49 plus tax.

Have you seen the 1987 Cannon MovieTales version with Diana Rigg as the evil queen? The ending to that one is very spectacular.

Thanks for letting me know. I corrected the mistake. And in the original fairy tale that is on the Platinum Edition, Snow White is 7 and the queen eats the heart the huntsman brings her. She first tries to kill Snow White with a tight bodice, then a poisoned comb, and finally an apple. The queen had to eat half of the apple to convince Snow White that it wasn't poisonous. It was several years later that a prince stumbled upon her glass coffin and he begged the dwarfs to let him have her. Upon transferring the casket to the castle, they tripped and the chunk of apple in Snow White's throat came dislodged. The Queen was invited to the wedding, where she was given a pair of red hot shoes that made her dance for the rest of her life.

Just a small correction, In the original fairy tale, the shoes themselves did not make the queen dance. She was forced to dance in them until she fell down dead.

The Diana Rigg version which I mentioned above has the three attempts on Snow's life (the bodice, the comb and the apple) and the same idea with the casket.

The Cannon Movie Tales version is my favorite adaptation.

The ending where the queen shatters into pieces (like her mirror ) is the best IMO.

Also, the fact that it has the bodice and poisoned comb along with the apple is another great, often skipped, element.

And you've gotta love Diana Rigg transforming into some wacky geisha girl for the poisoned hair-comb scene! Also one of the nicest examples of matching the two actresses who play Snow White: Nicola Stapleton (as a child) and Sarah Patterson (as the older Snow White).

I agree! The two resembled each other very closely, and it's more believable that Snow lived with the 7 D's for a few years before the queen's mirror found her.

"If you want lovely hair, you should put a comb in there. Make it bright, mother-of-pearl. Just the thing for lovely girl!"

I have read that originally Disney was also going to include all three attempts on Snow White's life , and then this idea was abandoned , however on the very final shot of the movie as the book closes written on the book's final page is written and they lived happily ever after you will notice a sylised illustration of a comb with strands of Snow White's hair entwined in it's teeth!

It's cheesy, but I grew up with this and so can't help but love it. Diana Rigg is wonderfully over the top. My favorite moment? "Mmmmiiiiiiillllllkkkkk." Those who've seen the film will know what I'm talking about.

As for the Disney version, I finally sent in my review to Luke tonight. Hopefully it'll be up tomorrow, but it's A LOT for him to wade through, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's not up till Tuesday. I tried to make it as detailed as I could.

I know about the free Steelbook that you get if you pre-order Snow White on Blu-ray at Best Buy and I know about the free Lithograph that you get if you pre-order Snow White on Blu-ray from the Disney store. Does anyone know about other stores that you might can get a free gift if you purchased Snow White on Blu-ray from that store?
