The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney flick, and it's actually the first movie I collected back in 2006. A new scene, WITH URSULA, would be amazing... Maybe something about her past in the castle? I hope it makes it on to the release. I feel like they wouldn't advertise something like that yet because the media blitz for the release has just barely begun. I mean, we don't even have a trailer with the new restoration yet, do we? They have plenty of time to market the addition of a new scene... and if Pat only recorded recently, then the scene probably isn't even done yet. I would assume, anyway hahaha

Really, I just don't think this adds up. Would Disney even be capable of animating sans Toon Boom? And even if they did animate with Toon Boom, there's no way the restoration would be good enough for a difference to go unnoticed.

These are my thoughts as well. The only way it want make it is if Disney cancelled the plans they had along with the 3D theatrical re-release. I would
love to see more Ursula (while Pat Carroll is still around to voice her), so I hope it still ends up as a bonus feature at least, even if it isn't completely finished? But not getting my hopes too high.
As for what it could be of though, I’m lost. Perhaps they decided to edit in the cut part of “PUS”? Or possibly a longer scene of her discussing her deal with Triton at the end, which is in one of the original scripts (doubt that, since Kenneth Mars has passed.

 ).

 I love her.

Also they could have just had her come in and voice a storyboard perhaps if they did abandon the making it fully animated.

I think they would be able to do it, Disney did afterall use the Caps system at some point during the movie. It wouldn't surprise me if they animate it using Toon Boom and then make a print and scan it in to match the rest of the movie. Because the CAPS scene is part of the actual print and it's not going to be sourced directly from file.

DancingCrab wrote:Just got back from a Q&A with Pat Carroll in Orlando, FL ... she said that she just recently recorded voice work for The Little Mermaid 3D, and that the film was adding additional footage intended back in 1989. It's possible Disney scrapped the plans to animate new footage, as I'd have thought they'd be promoting the hell out of an "All-New Scene", but according Pat, we can expect something more than just a new restoration. Holding onto my Limited Issue and Platinum DVD's just in case this turns out weird.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's material for "Disney Intermission." Perhaps it'll be hosted by Ursula, which is why Pat Carroll came in to do voice work. That would technically make it "added footage" to the film, but the "intended for 1989" is the one wrench in that theory.
Or, it could be another "Bloopers & Outtakes" featurette, like the one on
The Lion King. Hearing Pat Carroll flub a line is right up there with hearing James Earl Jones accidentally burp, two things I can now cross off my bucket list.

Either way, glad to hear that she's still as bright and vivacious as she was twenty-four years ago.

This new scene sounds really exciting. Especially with Ursula?!?! The villain?!?!?! Not the princess?!! But I don't want to get too excited and have it turn out to be nothing.

				Don´t get your hopes up.
My guess is that her voice could be used for a game or even to animate a menu. Remember Jonathan Freeman doing Jafar with Iago for The Return of Jafar DVD menu?
...that was great. Especially for a movie like that.

As much as I would love love love Disney to have done this, I justs can't believe it will see the light of day as they would be banging on and on and on about it, like they did with BATB and Lion King.
Personally, if the scene she recorded vocals for is as bad as 'Morning Report' I don't want it it Mermaid. BUT if it is as seem less as 'If I Never Knew You' from Pocahontas, I'm all for it!!
But it does seem highly likely it has been cancelled along with the 3D rerelease. Us mermaid fans can't seem to catch a break !!

New scenes with Patt? I'm down with that

I sorely missed her in TLM 3 Sally Field doesn't hold a candle too the grande dame that is Mrs Carol! I do think the blooper angle makes most sense with additional cast members being thrown in the mix. Hoping for more background story though! Her Palace years are still unclear. Even a glimpse of her passing by in the palace would mean much storywise. Preferably in some new fishy gettup

I don't remember any deleted scenes with Ursula that would fit in with the final version of the film. Unless it's a deleted scene that was never spoken of in any interviews or documentaries before.
I'm curious to see what this could be...

Well, I can't say that I know about that. I do know he showed up in the alternate ending during when Flounder was getting Ariel to the wedding ship.

				WOOOOW
Well, there was that deleted scene where Ursula talks with Ariel about what she did that got her banned from the palace.

If there is a new scene added, I hope they do what they did with Beauty and the Beast where they allow you to choose which version to watch.

that would have my preference as well as opposed to the lion king where dutch viewers had to endure that abysmal add on morning report after which I wanted to burn my eyes & ears out! Integrity for original vision is not guarenteed though

If Ron and John had anything to do with it (as they should as it is their film and no one else's) then I trust what they feel and directing the sequence of adding it back in. But if it was a Disney "hell yes let's squash this in to get more monies" then I'm not down for that.
Have any of you guys seen Pat Carroll performing the part of the Ghost Host from Hunted Mansion on YouTube?? Just discovered if the other day!! Now that lady has talent.
