Listen, you are all hit by nostalgia. If you could just open your head for new things you will notice that Tangled has great songs + superb score in it.
You can't say that 'Be our guest' doesn't slow the movie, or 'Part of your world'. (actually, with the former, I always get the trigger to fastforward). Though both songs affect the movie in some way.
I think that in Tangled the songs come right in time - none of them are slowing the movie, nor trying to hard.
The part where she leaves the tower - this is where she needs to sing, and you can hear her excitement - it's awsome! Or the part where she meets Gothel in the woods... This gives me the chills..
And they are all beautiful! I mean, you should just watch it again, or hear it on youtube. It's just not fair that you critisize them, since you've heard them once! Many of you have seen B&TB like hundred times!!!
'I see the light' IS an 'it' song. And it's a great song. Very touching. And all the lyrics just contribute to the film's flowingness, I love them (who's responsible for this?).
I find the score itself better than Aladdin's for example, which I can't recall music that caught my ear. 'Kingdom Celebration', on the contrary, will always be in my heart.
But we should just stop those comparisons, because this is what ruining the excitement of the movie, and it never ends.
I loved it! I think I could watch this movie over and over again, and I know many of you would do it too.
While I agree nostalgia DOES indeed have an impact on how people view this film, I don't think it totally colours their entire opinion of it. I mean, regarding the "it" song, I feel an "it" song is one that feels like the "heart" of the film, and one where the viewer has a "wow, this is amazing!" feeling when listening to the song and seeing the sequence, and most importantly, just want to sing the song themsevles cuz it was so good. "Go the Distance" was this for me. It's epic, and I just want to sing it. For
Mulan, I think "I'll Make A Man Out of You" was this; watching it, it feels amazing, and you just want to sing the song. Heck, at my highschool, everyone used to love singing that song! "A Whole New World" was this for me--amazing sequence, beautiful song; magical. People love singing that song. I don't try to compare these songs, either; they're all wonderful "it" songs that are close to my heart, and good in their own way. "I See the Light", however, though it has a beautiful sequence, I just don't find myself wanting to sing the song. I try not to compare to the other songs, and listen to it alone, but I just don't find it something I want to burst out and sing a lot. I don't see little kids wanting to sing it as they do other Disney tunes, and I actually find that rather sad. I
wanted the song to be amazing, and though I do really like it...it just doesn't feel like "it" song material. Nostalgia may play a part, of course, and I'm sure it does, but an "it" song (imo) is one that's both amazing and feels like the centerpiece of the film, and one I can see kids singing...and I just can't see kids singing "I See the Light".
Though, on this whole business, I think I was wrong about
Tangled not having an "it" song. I think it sort of does, but it's different. "Kingdom Dance" has the thrill of an "it" song, and I definitely want to sing it. The only problem is, it doesn't have lyrics, so...it's rather hard for anyone to sing it. But if it were a lyrical song, I bet ya little kids would be singing it.
Hehe, that was terribly rambly. I agree that things get better with each viewing, and I agree that the songs in
Tangled aren't so bad. Nostalgia's definitely playing a part (but I don't think it's a HUGE part), so I hope one day the music will be looked upon more favourably.
Zachary Levi is on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to discuss a little bit about Tangled. I'm sure there will be a clip by tomorrow. I thought it was extra cool the band played the theme to I've Got a Dream (aka the Pub song)
That sounds amazing! The band playing the pub song = insta win

I hope a clip comes up soon...
And, late, I know, but...
I think Rapunzel would have touched snow on her window sill. Although I guess she wouldn't have run around in it.
Well, we don't know for sure if there's snow in Rapunzel's kingdom. But you just gave me an idea--it'd be so cute to have little Rapunzel touching snow on the window sill for the first time and asking what it was... D'awww.
