So, I still haven't picked up the PE Snow White and I keep looking for a copy on Amazon or Ebay etc. that isn't over 50 dollars that is in decent shape. Anyway, my question is are we looking at re-realease for Snow White soon because the 7 year in the vault thing is almost done. On wiki it is listed as highly likely to be re-released in '08 or '09.

So would it be a better move to wait a year or so for a hopeful re-release or pay a ridiculously large amount of money for a used dvd? I don't want to get jip if the re-release isn't the same or anything.

If you want it now, buy it now...no telling when if it is ever release, if
it will be any good..I saw one at at a shop near me used for $40
it looks to be in vg condition with the inserts..If you want me to check on it LMK..they also had a new/sealed one for $60..

I'd expect it out again in 2009, dual release on DVD and Blu Ray more than likely.

I would but it now, if you have the money. I was lucky enought to find a used copy in excellent condition (inserts and all) at GameStop for only $16.99.

But believe me, the $50+ you would spend on the PE is $50+ well spent. It is LOADED with bonus features, and the restoration is beautiful. If I were you, I'd buy a copy of the PE now, because there's no telling when it will actually be released, or what bonus features might get cut (the theatrical trailers are true gems).

When does the Disney Company next intend to re-release Snow White on Disney DVD/Blu Ray? Looking forward to seeing it in High Definition!

Possibly in 2009, as that's when the Platinum re-release is due.

I thought that Disney would wait until the movie's 75th Anniversary in 2012! However I thought a while back that 2008 was mooted as a possible re-release date.

I hope that they will dig out some new treasures - the pencil test for the Witch at the Cauldron Boil Cauldron Boil sequence was on the laserdisc release years back but strangely absent from the first Platinum DVD!

Wonder what will be in it? I wish they'd reanimate The Music In Your Soup Sequence - did you know that originally the soap impaled by a spoon was to then be intercut with/faded into the Wicked Queen holding the Heart Box with Sword Through Heart Motif?

Why does everyone think that disney's going to release a 2 platinum blu-ray release each year, don't you guys think that they made it a 2 a year release for the DVDs so all the platinum dvds would all release before blu-ray comes out and therefore going back to the one a year for the blu-rays?

In a word. No. I believe they made the release schedule 2 a year because they wanted the money.

After all, if they release a Blu-Ray disc now, it only has about 3% of the whole home video market for their potential sales. Even in 2008 I doubt it will be over 15% (especially if Blu-Ray and HD DVD continue to split the HiDef userbase). It's like when Snow White came out (a good 2 or 3 years after DVD started) - most people didn't have a DVD player so it was impossible to get 5M+ sales like they do with today's Pixar DVD releases in the 1st week!

Why would they give up potential sales to 100% of the market for potential sales of only a fraction of that. Right now, neither HiDef format is selling enough to justify restarting the Platinum Line just for HD.

Take a look at this chart woeful HiDef sales are - even the Pirates of the Caribbean movies! (Chart shows combined sales from 1st Jan 2007 to 5th August 2007)

So why wont Disney release The Jungle Book and The 101 Dalmations on Bluray this October/March ? An HD transfer from a DVD takes only a few months to be acheived.

Well, look at those sales above. Jungle Book would probably sell no more than 250,000 copies. Meanwhile, on DVD its likely to sell 10 times that or more in the first week.

Once a title is released, it's out there and percieved as "old" even if people get new players. Look at Chicken Little - its been out since March 20th (so is eligible for the list) and its sold LESS THAN 26,800 copies TOTAL.

I know studios and companies have to invest in a format to reap later rewards, but why should Disney let out it's crown jewels for so little financial reward (in fact, I would guess Disney is losing money on the vast majority of its Blu-Ray releases).

Do you think that Blu-Ray & HD DVD will eventually replace DVD? Or do you think that there could be a chance that the high-def formats will go the way of the laserdisc? I'm extremely curious about this, and I know that there's no way to know this right now...but I'm curious as to your opinions.

Completely agree studios (not just Disney), are not going to release some of their "big" titles with the current sales. When sales pickup more titles will become available.

The list above is a great example. Compare the 300 sales on the HD chart with the 300 sales on DVD. Both HD formats have a long way to go.

Well video was replaced easily after DVDs came out, if you got to somewhere like amazon.com and wanted to order a video of the jungle book in platinum edition, you won't find one.
And dvds were only introduced about 10 yrs ago, I think the same could be applied to the blu-rays, so I have a hunch that a sleeping beauty dvd might not be re-released with the blu-ray.

Sleeping Beauty Platinum edition will come out on standard DVD.

Blue Ray and HD combined only have 3 percent (or so) of market sales right now. Even if they grow in a year, they are clearly a LONG way from overtaking standard DVD in sales figures.

And even if/when they do, standard DVD will hang around for awhile as an alternate format, like VHS and audio cassette tapes did for awhile.

Disney released Platinum titles on VHS up until that format all but disappeared.

There's just too much money to be made on standard DVD, so for Disney NOT to release Sleeping Beauty Platinum edition on the standard DVD format next fall would be commercial suicide! They aren't going to throw away 90+ percent of the market!

The one DVD edition of SB that did come out is LONG OOP and was only available for a short time, so a lot of people missed it.

Snow White will probably be out in both formats in 2009 or 2010.

I think it's 2010 or 2011 becouse this year there's no Disney Princess film on a platinum edition,there's Enchanted on theater so they released Disney Princess:Enchanted Tales,in 2009 The Frog And The Princess will be released so Snow White will be in year later,or in 2011 if Rapunzle will be out in 2010.

HDTVs and Players will have to come down a lot in price before Blu-Ray and or HD DVD replace DVD's. The average consumer still can't afford one or both of the required equipments to get the full benefit of HD Movies.

Personally DVDs will have to become 100% obsolete before I start replacing my large collection. For me the gamble isn't worth it and the difference in picture isn't important enough for me to start putting money into one of the new formats. I'm perfectly happy with Standard DVD and I know of a lot of people who feel the same way.

In their current forms I don't see HD DVD or Blu-ray replacing DVDs at all. I honestly think they will end up like Laserdiscs did with VHS, and thats not really a bad thing. Laserdiscs enjoyed a very successful run and a lot of great titles, etc... were released. I honestly think that HD DVD/Blu-ray might be more successful than Laserdiscs were, and if some things change they could take over DVDs. However it will be several years down the road.

DVD launched in 1997 (I think), and personally I didn't see DVDs completely take off until like 2000/2001. They were big before that, but during that time frame the sales jumped and we saw VHS slowly vanish. Remember that these formats are still only in their first year (well year and a half), and a lot can happen. I think next year the 32 to 37 inch HDTVs will become a lot more affordable than they are now. With HDTV prices going down, if we can get some sub $150 players the HD formats should take off.

Can someone tell me please - when does the one that statred it all the first and fairest of them all : Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs come out again on DVD and Blu Ray for the first time is it now 2009? I can't wait and would certainly get a Blu Ray player for this classic title !!!
