That's some cheap-ass early computer games animation.

That absolutely isn't Odette on the box set artwork. Odette also looks about 8 years older than her 'daughter'.
I agree Atlantica, it looks like those Barbie movies.
The whole film is on youtube. I don't know whether to torture myself for just over an hour.

Ehmmm... bump
The Region 2 DVD I have from Belgium is 1,78:1.
You generally lose a bit from the top and bottom but you gain picture on the sides, so the difference isn't that big at all.

According to Wikipedia
"In the US the film along with its sequels is only available in fullscreen, as opposed to the European releases where the film is preserved in its original 1.85:1 Widescreen aspect ratio"
Still weird that the US would get a fullscreen release and EU would get widescreen. Doesn't make much sense.

I finally saw the latest SP movie (even though I had the DVD for like two years), and surprisingly, it's actually pretty good

. Make no mistake, it's an absolute pain to watch and the graphics are beyond horrid, but color me impressed with what they did with the story. First, the title and the cover art are pretty much misleading because they represent just a small chunk of the overall story. The story itself progresses naturally from what came before, it even goes back to a time before the events of the first movie (with some slight retconning), the villain is not a comic relief but a formidable foe, it gets very somber and heavy in certain parts, and there are some super funny bits with Queen Uberta. If only the visuals matched the story I'd be tempted to call this the best SP movie made, but even if they don't I feel the movie as a whole is much better than
Escape from Castle Mountain and
The Mystery of the Enchanted Kingdom, and especially
The Swan Princess Christmas.
The whole movie is on YT in case you don't want to pay for it

.

At least she seems a bit more on model than in the previous films. Granted it could just be the clip art.. The cast of characters seems interesting. It's giving me Princess and the Goblin vibes.

I didn't even look at that portfolio earlier! I understand they're looking for merchandise opportunities, but some of the stuff they have there isn't exactly doing them favors... Like, I wouldn't take pride in my brand being "the latest in a series of Disney wannabes" even if the rest of the quote is positive , or state that the brand is "a merchandise winner" when the only merchandise the series ever had came out 22 years ago.
And that voice talent section is so off the mark... I mean, John Cleese hasn't voiced Jean-Bob in over 20 years. But I do like the images. I too hope they improved the CG models, and it's not just for clip art.

Well the animation looks slightly better on everyone except Odette. Granted, we only got a couple of glimpses at her. Sad to see all the focus seems to be on her daughter instead.

Apparently, the owners of The Swan Princess franchise have trouble finding illustrators that can draw Odette and Derek on-model. That would certainly explain the horrible DVD covers and clip-art. Why don't they just hire an animator, preferably one that worked on the original film?
Malane Newman wrote:Last year I met the owners of Swan Princess Partners, the company who owns and creates the series of animated feature films, The Swan Princess. They talked about their 7th film due to come out and how some artists were having a little difficulty in drawing the characters exactly as they appeared in the first animated feature film simply entitled “The Swan Princess”. I had to agree, that although what they showed me did resemble the original characters, some parts of their facial features were different when comparing them side by side.
The owners decided to give me a try so they hired me to create an illustration of Princess Odette and Prince Derek as they first appeared in the original animated feature to be used as the model for future films…but with one change, they wanted the characters to have a regal smile so they could use them in their other marketing efforts. Now, if you ever saw the original film, you know that both characters were all encompassed in drama and never smiled. When they were happy, they were kissing. I just completed the drawings and happy to say, the owners liked the results. I hope you do too!

Two new Swan Princess books are being published, the one called "The Serenade Song" and the other "My Beloved Father".
The Swan Princess: The Serenade Song is the first storybook from The Swan Princess since the original Scholastic book in 1994. This is an all new adventure story of The Swan Princess, written and illustrated by Evelyn Vicario. The Serenade Song is a 34 page children's story about Princess Odette and Prince Derek's continued struggles with evil magic and the malicious Rothbart. With the help of their friends, Puffin, Jean-Bob, Speed and Bromley, they battle for love to prevail over evil. The book illustrations are created from the original images from the 1994 animated classic, The Swan Princess and feature the newly designed Princess Odette, by Malane Newman.

Is Richard Rich still directing these?
And I wonder if
Mooky will be getting this one.
