Yes, excellent review Luke! Thanks for writing it.

I am a little disappointed to hear that the sound wasn't completely in synch with the film in certain areas. I really hope I don't notice it.

Luke, awesom review! I agree on every word about the movie!
One thing I disagree with tho, is the making-of feature. While it's interesting it hardly ever goes in depth, which is a bit disappointing when comparing to Atlantis, Aladdin or even Bambi's documentary.

off topic first.
tarzan 2..good animation.disneytoon has certainly improved leaps and bounds.
the story is wasted.
the song sucks.
good thing is terk isnt annoying at all.she's behaving this time.
i enjoyed it as a tv cartoon with an almost feature level of artistry.
really they shouldve done a sequel on adult tarzan and jane.

pocahontas
the best making will always be the one hosted by david odgen stiers.

the cover isn't so bad, but i hope the spine is one color - green. i dont have too many DVDs of that color so it's another color that will add to my DVD Collection !

Great review Luke.
I'll definately buy a copy and give the movie a try. It doesn't sound bad and I can't remeber seeing it since its theatrical release. Too bad many people treat it as the "back-drop" of the Disney Renaissace and the one that ruined everything..

Great review, Luke. I've got the VHS of Pocahontas and I'm definitely buying the DVD.

I just can't believe the audio is almost (or the same quality) as the Gold Collection which was entirely stereo. :x

But at least the video was extremely improved and not it has extras. So of course its worth upgrading.

...but that audio issue....

Now for the new editions of Hercules and Hunchback that deserve them.

I was going to post this under the thread "Do you like/dislike Pocahontas?", but now I love the movie so much I felt like making a new topic...

Well, today I went to a nearby mall and walked to a cd/movie store I really like because it has dvd imports. Before entering I thought that perhaps they'd have Pocahontas: 10th Anniversary Edition, and they did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I bought it.

I'm deeply in love with it. I enjoyed the first opening part cause of the song, then I kind of doubted I'd like the movie, but rapidly I got hooked and charmed by Pocahontas and John Smith and their relationship. I par this movie up with Beauty and the Beast for the romance. I actually like P and J's relationship more than B and B's... wow!!! Never thought that would happen. Truly, I've never cried more in any other Disney movie.
If you like romance in movies, you definetely have to get this, especially for the "If I Never Knew You" addition. It's such a beautiful song and scene; I would have never thought that a scene inside a tent with a man tied to a pole could be so beautiful and heart-moving. That's what the whole movie is - heart-moving.

Please open your heart to Pocahontas, it surely is a wonderful movie especially with the wonderful "2-disc" treatment that deserves to be a true classic.

I think that if it would have been released before Lion King, it would have been more popular and loved by people, and also considered part of the Disney renaissance along with TLM, BatB, Aladdin, and TLK.

Pocahontas is definetely know part of my top 5 Disney movies...

I didn’t have the time to post before, but I read the “Pocahontas” review the day it was published (more than once, actually). Thanks for such a well-written and in-depth review, Luke. I agree with everything you wrote about the movie (even though I seem to like it more than you do). I always think of “Pocahontas” as a “Sleeping Beauty” of the new Disney generation. Not only because the 1995 film was visually inspired by SB, but both have a lot in common: both were supposed to be great epics, both were darker and visually different than the films that preceded it, and both were critically bashed and though to be box office disappointments in their initial releases and ended up being the end of Golden Eras for the Disney Studio (in the case of SB it even meant cutting back the budget of future animated features). I only hope, as “Sleeping Beauty”, that “Pocahontas” will be recognized as a classic in the years that follow. And just a few more days to seen in its proper glory! :D

By the way, it seems Disney chose to crosspromote “Pocahontas” with “Tarzan II”, instead of “Bambi”. Big wrong move.

Pocahontas: 10th Anniversary Edition was the 8th highest-selling title in its debut week, according to VideoScan via Hollywood Reporter. That makes it the 5th most popular new DVD of the week...closely behind The Sandlot 2. :o

I'd say that's pretty good for a DVD that's hardly advertised (from what I've read here)!
