oh yea, if you order it online and do in-store pick up, they'll have to guarantee you the THUMPER PLUSH...that's what I did! :)
but i think you like the spongebob finger puppet anyway! ;)

Movie: what can I say that hasn't been said? Its a masterpiece, they really don't make them like they used to anymore. :(

Video: miraculous restoration, I couldn't bilieve it.

Sound: nothing extraordinary, but very clean.

Extras: I finally tried one of the games so that I would know what I was insulting, turns out they are worse than I thought. I watched everything exept for the making of and the story meetings. The time capsule is great, hopefully every Disney SE will have it from now on.

I bought my copy from DisneyDirect.com, and it has a velcro fastener and not the booger that I saw in all of the B&M shops that I visited yesterday.

The video transfer for the movie was a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT... not even close to the Snow White, Alice in Wonderland or Sleeping Beauty transfers. Some scenes look totally awful!!! too much grain and not impressive at all... (It's the Region 1 edition, released yesterday)

The overall quality of the set was OK. I didn't rememeber how much I like this movie... it's just so great to think about the childhood memories.

My slipcover didn't got a velcro... but I'll get some for it...

by the way, along with Bambi R1 I also got Gone With the Wind 4-Disc Set and that was another major dissapointment for the video transfer. .. it wais "ultra restorarion" and it seems almost identical to the single disc release a few years ago... it was worth only for the extras... but that off topic.

Seems like is't the best we can expect for the old movies... I don't think even HD-DVD or Blu Ray will really bring us the "ultimate" audio and video quality for movies that were made more than 60 yrs ago...

BTW I'm really happy with amazon.com because my order arrived 29 hours after I placed the order, and I'm in Mexico!!!

Sorry to hear you weren't happy with the transfer. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I think they did a spectacular job. :)

They did a good job and the movie does look better than ever...
but it's not enough!!!

I't could have been "smother" but I guess they didn't wanted to give the "brand new feeling"...

Well... sometimes they go too far... like Beauty and the Beast.
B&B looks so bright that you can get the idea of seeing each cel over the backgrounds... it was a great digital restoration but it TOTALLY RUINED the darker feeling of the movie. :x

Maybe with Bambi the deal was for it too look like an old movie that looks "good enogh"

Here in Mexico a Pinnochio Special Edition (Single disc and not to special) was released about two years ago, the video transfer is supposed to be the best restoration (not the one used for R1 Gold Collection) and it looks great but "un-espectacular" just like Bambi does...

Now I hope that CINDERELLA will really look as one of the "crown jewels" of the studio... it doesn't deserve to have even a little grainy shot. :!:

Still, the Bambi release is one of the best... I think the bonus features are way better than the ones in Lion King... I mean, just the doccumentary-semi-audio-commentary (Wal't Story Meetings) in disc 1 beats it all!

By the way... Bambi and the Great Prince looks totally promising... the animation quality seems so good and the story seems acceptable... maybe there is a chance that this will be the first sequel that deserves not to be called a "cheapquel"... :D

that's weird ric-mx. To me it looked like there wasnt enough grain. I didn't notice any grain, the picture looked too digital.

Well, haven't watched it yet, but colour me annoyed on the velcro cover. Thought it was only my copy, since I bought it at Costco, and it came in a large sealed cardboard box, so you couldn't open it.

Would love to find out if this was an error, or planned that way. The little white spot implies that there's supposed to be velcro there.

I also got that piece of glue holding my box closed. I just removed the damn thing and let the flap open up a bit. :P

Studios are often very hesitant to remove too much grain, for the fear that it looks like a digital movie. Grain is supposed to be there to give the movie it's "older" feel. I personally don't mind having a bit of grain on their for the feel of the movie. Clean it up a lot, get rid of all of the scratches and whatnot, but leave some grain on there to keep it feeling like it's from the age it is

Okay I want to point something out about Bambi 2. I notice some where curious about Flower and Thumper being in Bambi 2 because in Bambi 1 they where like but he has not seen them in a while.

First of all Flower never said anything like remember me, there is a hint that Bambi has not seen him in a while with the way he says " Flower " but still it was not clear that Bambi had not seen him in a while or not.

As for Thumper saying " Hey Bambi remember me " Well its clear that Bambi must not have seen Thumper in a while. But remember in Bambi 2 Bambi and Thumper as well as Flower are all still children so it takes place WAY before they become adults. In Bambi one when Thumpers says " remember me " you just know that Bambi has not seen Thumper in a long time, but it never tells you when the last time it was that Bambi saw Thumper. So having Thumper and Bambi both together in Bambi 2 would not cause a problem with that.

at walmart they have Half and Half of the Bambi DVD. Half the DVD covers had Velcro and Half has the goo and when i bought it i was so happy to just buy the movie that i didn't realize that. I got the goo covered one, i haven't gone back to best buy to check if they also have Half & Half, but if they do then I'll be mad, but i can always call disney and see if they have covers that have velcro, if not then i could go to walmart and buy the DVD again, keep the cover and return the movie the next day.

i just thout i should mention it for those of you guys that have not bought the DVD yet and want the Velcro covered one.
