WOW! Leonard Maltin sure didn't like it!

Anyway I think E&R will give this movie Two Thumbs Up! I have never seen either of them give a thumbs down to a Studio Ghilbil film!

Ebert will give it a thumbs up because he is a big anime fan. I've already read the book so I can't wait for the film!

I bought the book for a quarter...need to read it.

Fortunately, it's starting on the 10th at the AMC Winston Churchill 24 about 5 minutes away from me in Oakville, Ontario. So far, that's the only theatre in Canada I've been able to find that has showtimes for it; lucky for me, I guess, and anyone else in the GTA who wants to come to Oakville.

It's unusual that Famous Players hasn't listed any showtimes for it yet, considering they list Friday as the release date. Cineplex Odeon doesn't seem to have any showtimes yet, either.

There is one screening in my city, so I should be able to get to it opening weekend.

FWIW, when you see box office figures, like the theater counts, it is talking about "North America" which includes both the US and Canada. It has to do with film distribution; when you see weekly box office numbers, the domestic numbers are combined US and Canada, and Canada is not included in the "world wide" or "overseas" numbers. For this particular example, Buena Vista is the "US" distributor of the Studio Ghibli film; this means that they will distribute in both US and Canada.

So what you are seeing, is that the first week Howl's Castle will have a limted release in 35 theaters in the US and Canada. This will be in major cities. Then, the following week, it is is "wide release" in 900 theaters in the US and Canada.

I might see it this weekend since its playing at the theatre my cousin works at. If not, maybe next week, can't wait.

Well I just got back from seeing this, and I was pretty impressed. Unfortunately, I missed out on seeing Spirited Away during its run in theatres, so I wanted to make sure I saw this one.

The movie left a few points of the story somewhat unexplained; but that seems to be a trend in the Studio Ghibli movies that I've seen so far. However, the story was interesting, and the characters (for the most part) appealing. The voice actors did pretty good jobs overall; Billy Crystal was very funny as Calcifer. I guess I'll have to wait for the DVD to watch it with a japanese audio track. There's a pretty odd, very random occurance close to the end which got a chuckle out of me and most of the others in the audience; though I have no idea if it was meant to be amusing or not.

There were also a few trailers I hadn't seen before with this movie. Nice long ones for both Chicken Little, which looks mildly entertaining; and The Pink Panther, which looks like it'll be hilarious. Steve Martin really was that accent down. Also, there was a trailer for a movie called Sky High; which I haven't heard of before. And the Chronicles of Narnia trailer which I've seen before, but didn't mind seeing again as it looks like a wonderful movie.

Can't wait for it to expand to wide release and hit my local cinema. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Did the crowd seem to enjoy what is supposed to be Miyazaki's swan song & was your showing sold out or at least pretty packed? I'm hoping it racks up the big numbers in limited so it will definitely go wide enough to reach my small town.

Thanks for your opinion. I'm getting more and more interested in this movie. So who was the random occurance? My interest is sparked now.

That was a very interesting review, similar to Luke's, but good nonetheless. Sky Highis mentioned on this site--in the Coming to Theaters section, I think.
