For some reason I feel like the fact the main character is a child would make a bad cgi more forgivable lol. Anyway I love Lilo's casting, hope they get the rest right too.

I'm ok with the lilo casting, but nani is what will make or break it for me. well, that and their execution of stitch but I'm talking about the human cast.

I really hope Auli'i Cravalho isn't Nani. I don't see her as Nani

Me neither, to be honest. Auli'i is more bubbly and peppy. Nani is more mature and serious. Also, I think Auli'i lacks the acting chops to pull off Nani's more earnest and heartfelt scenes.

Anyone see "All Together Now" on Netflix? It has Auli'i in a role that kind of balances her more bubbly persona with some darker subject matter, and I thought she was pretty good there.
Anyways, actors grow by trying new things and getting out of their comfort zone, and that only happens when viewers give them the chance. If she ended up getting the role, I could see her doing well.

I think the character of Nani and who they cast as her is the most important thing, for me she was always the star of the original movie and what made me love it. While I agree Auli'i doesn't seem like a good match, what PatchofBlue said is true, it's good to give actors the chance with a new type of roles.

Nani was always my favorite character (with Stitch being second favorite; Lilo was always my least favorite). No, I don't think Cravalho fits and, yes, I think Cravalho will be cast anyway. Casting actors who suit the role isn't Disney's interest these days.

The news of Nani's casting is trending on Twitter and like usual it's not for good. People are upset at the casting because even though the actress chosen was born and raised in Hawaii she apparently "doesn't have enough Native blood" and "she's not dark-skinned enough". As expected, Disney is being accused of colorism and whitewashing.

I remember that this was an issue with Naomi Scott as well.

Sort of. With Naomi Scott the backlash was mostly due to the fact Naomi isn't of Arab/Middle Eastern descent. She's of Indian descent.

to me it should not matter the person's decent, if they look the part. but part of looking the part is having a skin tone that represents the character's decent, so thats where they failed with both jasmine and now nani. Do better disney.

Looking at pictures of her on Google, she looks like Nani in some pictures more than others.

I'm not sure how I feel about Nani casting. She does look more like Nani than Aulii though. Well, at least she loiks more like Nani than Halle Bailey looks like Ariel or Yara Shahidi looks like Tinkerbell.

People are upset about Nani, but they got a girl with TEETH to play Lilo, what's up with that?

Rachel Zegler, the latina actress playing Snow White whose first tweet after the castinf announcement was to say she wont wear makeup to be pale like Snow White is supposed to be, liked a tweet saying race plays a part in Lilo Stitch in light of the criticism about Nani's casting
And honestly I do wish Nani looked more like she's supposed to be, but neither should she play Snow White

That's hilarious. She as much as anyone should be glad they don't cast people that look exactly like the role anymore otherwise she wouldn't have
her job.

And how inappropriate for one Disney employee to cast aspersions on another like that.
Like I said, Bailey seems like a sweet person which is why I would say I like her despite her being a miscast of Ariel, imo. Zegler, on the other hand, seems like she enjoys being in the thick of all the drama. She was on Stephen Colbert's show recently, he sort of caught her in her narcissism when she tried to humblebrag about how horrible it is that she can never ride the Snow White ride at the parks anymore without people glomping onto her and he asked why she would be standing around the Snow White ride all the time anyway?
