If there are human characters there or not, the animals will still be CGI.
What Eisner wanted to do was to give the original Disney classics the Pixar treatment, making them look 3D but otherwise using the same design and non-photorealistic rendering.
This approach, where they use photorealism to make it look like live action, is something else. And I doubt Disney will ever decide to do remakes the way Eisner wanted it back then. Since the original links are dead and apparently not stored on Wayback Machine, this article was the only one I could find:
http://articles.latimes.com/2003/jun/29 ... -solomon29
For "Chicken Little," Disney is rebuilding the digital facility it dismantled after "Dinosaur," and will release Vanguard's "Valiant" in 2005. And according to a recent article in Newsweek, Disney chief Michael Eisner "wants to extend the lives of Disney's older characters by reanimating some classics for a new look. Imagine a 3-D Peter Pan soaring over a digitized London."
So who knows, maybe we will some day see a Peter Pan or Pinocchio made the same way as Spielberg's Tintin, even more realistic. If they could give us Tarkin in the last Star Wars movie, it seems like the so-called uncanny valley is practically goe.

I'm sure most people will be happy with the result, except those who would complained anyway. But I hope they make some good choices when choosing voice actors. The old Saturday morning cartoons did a better job than many of the present day movies. If watching for instance the original Lion King with your eyes closed, there is no way you would guess that you are listening to hyenas.

A little early isn't it? Though I don't know how long these movies usually take to make, but I figure it'd be something like 3 years at least.

If they actually manage to get Beyonce as Nala that would put her in a cast with Seth Rogen... I just wanted to point that out.
This thing could not possibly be more unnecessary.

This is obviously a joke, people!

As if Disney would ever do that. I wish it were true though. At least, it would make this pointless remake a bit interesting.

yeah... no. Disney's first gay lead character in their live action fairy tale movies franchise is...an animal. Nope, too many negative connotations there.
Im really worried they havent announced the hyenas voices yet. I hope they dont just make them mindless voiceless background thugs like the vultures were in Jungle Book.

What a delayed April's Fool-joke. Why making Simba gay when he already has a love interest?

Timon and Pumbaa haven't been played by black actors in the movie nor are required to be black on the productions of the Broadway musical (unlike the rest of the cast, the other exception is Scar), so...

How anyone didn’t know that was a joke though…

I have to admit it would be so much fun to watch the fundamentalist Christian tyranny who've already been boycotting Disney for years lose their sh*t over Disney's greatest love letter to the patriarchal paradigm getting turned into a gay love story.
