Um, hi, I'm new in the forum, I've been trying to get a proper account for a couple of years but only now I succeeded. I've seen Wreck It Ralph twice because it's such a great movie. I've been hyped about it for quite a while; I live in Brazil and here the movie only came out in January 4th. Since I'm not a gamer, I cared more for the plot and writing than for the video game references, and both elements were done spectacularly, with the plot being tight and consistent and the references being noticeable but not getting in the way.

Vanellope in particular is my favorite character; she's spunky and full of sass, and even though she goes through loads of crap for being a glitch she refuses to give up her dream of being a racer. No wonder Ralph said that "everybody loves an adorable winner". Also, the romance between Felix and Calhoun was really cute and quite unusual for a Disney flick; it reminds me of Roger and Jessica Rabbit (short cartoony guy with tall and badass humanoid woman) as well as Wes Collins and Jen Scotts from Power Rangers Time Force (explanation here).

BTW, does anyone know where I can find the actual introduction thread, if there's one?

Bit odd, but there really isn't any hype for this film at all over here ... usually by now the posters are everywhere, and people are at least talking about it .... doesn't seem this film is for some reason ?

Maybe as Les Miz hasn't been released yet, but still....not one of my friends has mentioned wanting to see it.

Depends. It's not out for another 6 weeks, I imagine things will start happening soon enough...

I saw WIR in cinema on the 2nd of January and I found it a very hilarious movie. It is indebted to Toy Story and Monsters Inc, but it can stand on its own legs.
I really liked the 'hybrid' short Paperman that was played before it too.
Disney should make an animated feature using this technique!

I know. That animation style is gorgeous, and Meg (the girl) is really pretty.

As for the WiR hype, I suppose that it's because the movie isn't showing in American theaters anymore... Though it still is in Brazilian theaters, as yesterday I saw it a third time. I can't get enough of it.

I finally got to see this again.

Something I've wondered for a while: Did anyone else think that the sequences of the Litwak Arcade could've been done in live action? I figured this could've been done to further separate the "real" world of the arcade from that of the multiple video game worlds.

Actually maybe it couldn't have been, if the 3D versions of all the video games were supposed to be the "realest" versions of themselves.

I agree with you. I think it would have been a good idea. Actually, Rich Moore wanted to do that but Lasseter turned the idea down.

Q: You've mixed many visual styles in the film, but one thing I wondered: were you ever tempted to put any live action into the film?

Rich Moore: There was a point where we though maybe the arcade world should be live action. We thought that for about a week, and then we talked with John Lasseter. And he said no, it's an animated film. This is not a live action film, this is animation. Let's just do great humans for the arcade scenes. And you know what? I went to school for animation, I didn't go to school for live action. I love this medium. So I'm glad we went this way.

Technically, it's a good idea, but personally, I hate (sorry for my word choice) live-action in animated films. It almost ruined Wall-E for me. I can't remember what Dreamworks film also had some very little live-action in it and I didn't like it as well.

I don't think any dreamworks film did.

But in this instance it would've worked. Since video games are animated regardless. I honestly don't see much of lasseter's reasoning since we always get cgi characters in live action films.
