On the www.thedigitalbits.com home page as of 3-6-04 there is a new cover for aladdin minus the geenie it says that it was found on the www.disney.com homepage. It the exact same cover except ther is no genie at all! I really want to know if these are real?

I think I'd trust the digital bits on this one. That genie looks way too big to be under 23%., and they likely had to change it.

geenie

I agree that the geenie should not take up more that 1/4 of the whole disney cover but they should still have him on the cover even if hes little-er. The geenie is a very important character in this movie he should at least get a small portion of the cover. I unfortunatly agree that the digital bits is probly correct, although i still hope disney changes it. at least with a little genie

Without the Genie, the coverart looks... empty! I still hope it will change!
Here it is:

It looks really empty  Their faces are messed up too. They have to make it so it looks great like the rest of the PE! :!:

It's too empty! Disney needs to put in a smaller genie, fix aladdin and jasmine's faces, and where all the character's are looking. Aladdin and Jasmine are looking up at nothing!

I don't think it looks THAT empty - I just think we're all used to seeing the Genie on it.

My pure speculation: I'm thinking that there might be a character commentary on Aladdin (since there is 2 commentaries). Perhaps Robin Williams said he wouldn't do it unless they took out the Genie from the cover. That's probably a bit far-fetched, but I can see that happening. And really, why would Disney fight the matter if it happened? Everyone knows the Genie's in the movie any way.

Why wouldn't Robin Williams do it if the Genie was on the cover? :? That makes no sense.

As I said, it is far-fetched. The reason it came to my mind is because Williams refused to work for Disney anymore unless they stopped making the Genie so huge on all the Aladdin artwork in '92, producting the rule that the Genie could only fill 23% of the space.

I was thinking he might have taken it a step further: I mean, why else would Disney not have the Genie on there? But its pure, unfounded, speculation on my part.

Could they be using a special cover (like the Ghost Ship cover) to show or hide the genie depending on the angle viewed?

Cool if they are!

cool

That would be cool! Like on one part it would have the lamp, then move it around and the geenie pops out!

It sounds cool but it would not fit the other platinums

On the official Disney alladdin dvd page http://disneyvideos.disney.go.com/movie ... 55203.html
it has the one w/out the geenie! SO maybe its true?! :x :(

I like it this way better, b/c Aladdin is more prominent, so it is in keeping with the other platinums. However, the genie needs to be in the bottom left corner!! Also, they BETTER put a silver strip across the bottom or I may go CRAZY!

Interesting, now the digitalbits.com site shows both. Maybe they trust ultimatedisney.com more. :D

I really like it without the Genie, however, it does need the Genie on it, but not quite so large. One thing that really bug me, however, is the title. What's up with that purple frame? What shape is it?
I don't know, but to me, I think that it would look better without the frame, and just the title...of course, then it'd look empty!

I think that the purple frame is supposed to reflect on the arabian culture and it looks to me kind of like the Taj Mahal, but I could be mistaken.

Haha, I think I'm the only one who likes the Genie-less cover a lot better, except maybe Aaron (we should form a club! :P ). A holographic cover would be cool, but I'd rather just have the Genie as disc art or something.

The purple frame is the thing I like most about this cover

And I agree that it looks better without the Genie. However, Genie is a lead character in the film and excluding him from the cover will be outrageous, so I guess he should be there, somewhere.
