That's why I'm here! Anamorphic WS to boot (pun intended)! :)

How can you make them Anamorphic? How do you deal with the different sides of the discs? Can you make it look good, even though the laserdiscs need to be flipped?

Catenating video from two sides is the easy part. Any video editing program will do that. The anamorphic part was done by re-framing the 4x3 image to 16x9 (removing the excess black bars top and bottom) and then flagging the video so your DVD player will fill in the remaining black if your TV is analog. Also, the alien language subtitles had to be redone so that they are on the image (they are on the black bars on the letterboxed Definitive Collection set).

And, yes... they look EXCELLENT!

Has anyone else noticed the inconsistency between the covers of the individual Episodes V and VI with the "entire contents" picture? The differences between Ep V is subtle -- Yoda and The Emporer have exchanged positions. However Ep VI is completely different!

This is really cool cover art, although I think the Episode V cover has too much space at the top. They should make Vader bigger so he can fit it.

I like how Lucasfilm made the covers in the same design as the prequels. The Bonus DVD looks cool, in loo of the conceptual art from McQuarrie. Glad to see that although they will line up with the prequels, the OT will have silver writing, whereas the PT will have the gold. Makes a nice split down the middle. Good job Lucasfilm! :thumb:

I like the disc art a lot better than the boxes.

Its been a long time but they look more like the movie posters from my recollections.

Trying to find the most appropriate thread to bump in which to post this, but I found this on Davisdvd.com:

http://www.davisdvd.com/misc/ep4.htm

It is a video/laserdisc/vcd/dvd timeline, which reveals "the unknown Star Wars transfer, the never-before-revealed "fourth audio mix" and the case of the "Incredible Shrinking Ratio"

Hey guys, not sure if this was discussed already in the 5 pages, but The Digital Bits has a review for the Star Wars Trilogy.

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/ ... ilogy.html

Also, some screen-caps of the "changes"

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/ ... anges.html

Frankly, after seeing them now...I think I can live with the changes (although the Hayden-instead-of-Sebastian one will be a bit jarring...) and maybe get the DVDs. But I'd rather Lucas listen to the fans and at least offer the option of purchasing the originals or the new 2004 edition.

My eyes still hurt from looking at that.
I mean literally sting.
Bad move Lucas, bad move.

Anyways, Im still looking forward to these.
I have it on tape but in fullscreen, these DVDs will be refreshing.

I've been thinking about the Hayden switch lately and it actually does make sense. The actor in the original version is basically portraying an Anakin that never existed. He wasn't a kindly old Jedi, he was an evil cyborg! So that would mean that Obi Wan, Yoda or Anakin himself had to use some imagination in order to figure out what he would have looked like had he not become Vader. I think of it as a residual self image type of thing like in the Matrix. Anyway, that's just my conclusion about it.

I just read the review and I must say that I am pumped for this DVD. Very good review for this and for the THX-1138 disc. I was glad to see that Bill Hunt agreed on my Hayden as Anakin's ghost theory. Plus he mentioned a HD 6 movie box set in the future...ahhhhh super box set....

Mark Hamill Talks Star Wars Epis. 7, 8, & 9
Source: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=6318

This past Wednesday, ComingSoon.net had the opportunity to attend Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment's roll-out of the "Star Wars Trilogy" DVD set (Coming Sept. 21st.) One of the surprise guests at the event was Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. He ended up being one of the highlights of the presentation as he enthusiastically recalled humorous anecdotes about the making of the original films, working with Kevin Smith, seeing TROOPS for the first time, and more.

However, his comments towards the end about Episodes 7, 8, and 9 really got everyone's attention. Mark told those in attendance what Lucas told him the third trilogy would be about. Hamill also went into detail about Lucas' original plans for those films, when they would be made, and more. Plus, Lucasfilm's Jim Ward confirmed that a "Star Wars" TV series is on the way in the near future (though he didn't say when it would be set).
Well, this is good and bad news for me it's both. The good news is that Star Wars will have a third Triolgy series the bad news is George Lucas might make it crappy like the first and second espiodes.

You know, I've just come to accept the fact that the Star Wars film series is an ever-changing entity (for now). Typically I'm one to always defend originality, and not changing or updating things (I'm very vintage-minded, you could say). But with the Star Wars films, you have to keep in mind that George Lucas has had a vision for them for a long time, and when it's all said and done, it is his masterpiece. The films will be able to be viewed back-to-back and flow together nicely, with as little continuity problems as possible. Granted, I prefer the limited yet charming 70's sci-fi technology found in the first films, but Lucas is not satisfied with that. So be it. If he could have made them this way in the 70s, he would have.

There is a parallel here with music recording. I love the warm, vintage sound of analog recording equipment of the sixties, but all that has been tossed out for the coldness of digital recording. It's a give and take, though. The new recording technologies allow more freedom to do more things, but you lose that great natural sound of the past. This debate applies to the recent "Let It Be: Naked" Beatles release, which was remastered on Pro-Tools digital software. It sounds amazing, but a little too cold and clinical for my taste. You lose something. Yet, Paul McCartney defended it by saying the Beatles would have used Pro Tools if it was around back then. The same goes for George Lucas and the Star Wars films.

Well it is really non-news. This is from theforce.net:

However, his comments towards the end about Episodes 7, 8, and 9 really got everyone's attention. Mark told those in attendance what Lucas once told him the third trilogy would be about. Hamill also went into detail about Lucas' original plans for those films, when they would be made, and more. Jim Ward from Lucasfilm was quick to point out there would be no 7, 8 and 9 movies but hinted about TV. (This summary was edited to make it clear this was a story Mark was recalling from long ago and not a current conversation)
