Yeah, its like they couldnt decided if they wanted it to be white or the patterned background like the previous dvd releases. its like...commit to something. both would look ugly, but dont leave it half and half like that.
and really, why are they so against a real background of some sort? Slap a pic of andy's room back there or somehing.

Why the complaints? Sure it isn't that great but it's a billion times better than the previous ones with the same Buzz.
The poses are really quite good and I think overall it works.
Sure they could have had some other scene or something but maybe they are waiting for the box set and I like these anyway.

Forgot to ask, what are the special features going to be?
Will they be another Disney drops everything and scams us?
I know what's new but will they drop everything old?
Can one disc fit everything that was on the previous DVD editions, excluding Ultimate Toy box.

Yeah, but just because something's better than terrible cover art doesn't make it good, it just makes it less bad. I mean, even the original barebones "Toy Story 2" DVD cover art was better because half the case wasn't a garish title block.

I don't think it's been announced what to expect yet, but since the relatively recent two-disc "A Bug's Life" DVD had (nearly) all of its special features ported over to a one disc Blu-ray, I think it's safe to expect that most of the two-disc special features will be ported over. Given that much of the special features will probably be SD, they shouldn't have much trouble fitting. It would be nice to get what was on the Ultimate Toy Box set, but I'm not holding my breath.

The cover artwork is OK for me, although I would've liked to seen a cover with all of the characters on it (Like the "Cars" theatrical poster), and have Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Bullseyes in the front.

kbehm, they were already posted last page.
The Digital Bits mentions some special feature information, though...
digitalbits.com wrote:Remember, these are Blu-ray/DVD/Digital File combo packs. DVD only special edition versions will be released on 5/18 (SRP $29.99 each), so they'll be exclusive on BD for a couple months.
All-new bonus features found on the Toy Story disc will include 8 featurettes (The Story: An Exclusive Sneak Peek at Toy Story 3, Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: Blast Off, Paths to Pixar: Artists, Studio Stories: John's Car, Studio Stories: Baby AJ, Studio Stories: Scooter Races, Buzz Takes Manhattan and Black Friday: The Toy Story You Never Saw), plus BD-Live movie chat, movie mail, movie challenge and more.
All-new bonus features due on the Toy Story 2 release include director's commentary and 8 featurettes (Characters: An Exclusive Sneak Peek At Toy Story 3, Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: International Space Station, Paths to Pixar: Technical Artists, Studio Stories: Toy Story 2 Sleep Deprivation Lab, Studio Stories: Pinocchio, Studio Stories: The Movie Vanishes, Pixar's Zoetrope and Celebrating our Friend Joe Ranft), plus BD-Live movie chat, movie mail, movie challenge and more.
I wonder if someone who knows the two-disc / Ultimate Toy Box sets better than I can give some idea about what might not be included from this brief overview? The Black Friday thing sounds interesting though.

All of the features that TDB listed as new Blu-ray features are, in fact, new features. The DVDs will probably be quite similar to Disc 1 of the Special Editions, but I don't think we have confirmation on what the May Special Editions will have on them. At the least, they should retain the old commentaries (the one for Toy Story mentions the Darth Vader POV as Buzz surveys Andy's room from the bed).
I was already going to jump on the Toy Story 2 Blu-ray, but now I'm really excited for it.

I know they're all new features. What I meant more was like, if we're covering all the same ground or more or less. Like, if the two-disc DVD had a feature entitled "My Favorite Hawaiian Shirts" hosted by John Lassetter in which he extolled the virtues of each Hawaiian shirt he wore while planning the film, and the the Blu-ray had the "John Lassetter's Hi-Def Virtual Hawaiian Shirt Closet" feature, one can with some safety that we'd get the more or less the same experience out of both. I'm basically just curious if it seems that something neat on the two-disc DVD might not get any sort of mention here.

So it looks like instead of replacing our old special editions, we should just take out the DC discs and put Disc 2(and 3) in them.

Aside from the Sneak Peek features, BBFC classified the new bonus features some time ago, and it doesn't amount to much. So the DVD Special Editions likely will be a single disc with movie + new features, and none of the stuff from Ultimate Toy Box Supplemental Disc or Disc Two of their 2005 Special Editions. The Blu-Rays, I expect, will have the new stuff, the usual BD-Live and other interactivity things, and carry over all/most of the material from the previous DVDs.
Toy Story Bonus Features: (22:21)
"Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: Blast Off" (3:17)
"Paths to Pixar: Artists" (4:35)
"Studio Stories: John's Car" (1:22)
"Studio Stories: Baby AJ" (1:34)
"Studio Stories: Scooter Races" (2:10)
"Buzz Takes Manhattan" (2:05)
"Black Friday: The 'Toy Story' You Never Saw" (7:15)
Toy Story 2 Bonus Features: (30:25)
"Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: International Space Station" (3:33)
"Paths to Pixar: Technical Artists" (4:11)
"Studio Stories: 'Toy Story 2' Sleep Deprivation Lab" (1:20)
"Studio Stories: Pinocchio" (2:08 )
"Studio Stories: The Movie Vanishes" (4:33)
"Pixar's Zoetrope" (1:53)
"Celebrating Our Friend Joe Ranft" (12:44)

So are these coming with digital copies or not? Of all the movies that could come with a digital copy, these are the ones that I would want the most! lol

No digital copies are provided with this release. I'm not sure who at Disney decides what does and doesn't come with a digital copy, but they certainly are erratic about it.

I don't know why anyone would care for Digital Copies with all those restrictions attached to them. Wouldn't be much better to just rip the DVD and use the digital file in any way you want?

Looks like disneystore.com has them up for preorder along with the list of bonus features. It also confirms the inclusion of the original dvd bonus features along with the new additions. Not sure how correct it is, but it has a release date of 3/23 for both the blu ray and the regular dvd.

Better yes, but your average Joe doesn't know how. Heck, even I tend to forget how, I usually end up having to research it every time I want to do it. then again Ive only done it a few times. digital copies are nice for convenience, and while Ive only used it for UP and Wall-e so far, Im slightly dissapointed they wont be doing it with these. But again, no big deal, I'll rip it and be just fine.
What I really want is a rip of the blu ray, since the only blu ray player I own is my ps3, I'd like to be able to have an HD copy for my PC. I know its technically possible, but Ive never downloaded/played a ripped blu ray. Id imagine their hard to find too.

Maybe digital copies are only given to films which do not go back into the vault. Toy Story is, after all, the only Pixar film to go in and out of the vault.

To rip a blu-ray, you'd need a blu-ray PC drive.

I know, thats why I would have to download one that was already ripped for me, which is illegal, I know, but so is ripping dvds yourself if you want to get technical. but its not like I wouldn't already own the blu ray, as well as 3 other copies of both toy stories, so I cant really see it as stealing. I simply want to watch the blu rays on my pcs without a buying blu ray drive.
