Good God, another perfectly fine thread hijacked into a Blu-Ray/DVD debate!

Guys, can't we just agree to diagree? This is getting really tiring.

Actually, BD has already been "broken" and I know people who already know how and have offered to copy anything in their collection for me free of charge, including one who knows how to convert and burn BD video content onto a DVD - and his DVD/BD/HDDVD collection rivals Requilla's in size!

I have so far not taken him up on it because I actually prefer to own the "official" versions. However, if Disney ever stops making 2-disc DVDs or DVDs in general, I will have no choice but to take him up on it if I want to see certain features , as I am sticking with DVD!

so what i really want to know where exactly these diamond editions fit...

Are all Platinum Editions when re-released going to be known as Diamond Editions and all newly announced or first time "Platinum" releases still going to be known as Platinums?

Or Is it all Platinum titles from now on are going to be known as Diamond Editions

Or maybe the "Platinum" line has been extended to 20 or so and then the top 10 selling Platinum titles are now becoming Diamond?

I'm pretty sure they haven't specified yet, but just like each new collection, it will probably have it's own titles (rather than only the ex-Platinums.)
Guess only time will tell.

The problem with this is the issue of "conquest." The studio are not making their millions on DVD anymore and so are busy pushing "the replacements" on us to get us to give them more money...again. If somehow DVD and Blue-ray could both co-exist in the market place, I'd sit down and shut up about the whole thing, but the studios and Blue-ray Fan Boys have made it rather clear that is not in the plains.

It makes me seriously wonder about having a home entertainment collection at all honestly. Why spend all this money just to re-do it all over again in ten years? I don't get it.

You accused "us" of not answering your question before, so now I accuse you of not answering ours.

When DVDs play on Blu-ray players (and indeed, will most likely be improved) why do you feel you "have" to rebuy all your movies again? Aren't you planning on rebuying the DVD Snow White anyway (assuming you have the DVD Platinum edition)?

Seriously, if you want to go bitch about Blu-ray and DVD, go to the DVD Forum. That's what it's for. This topic is about the new Diamond Editions, not about Blu-ray and DVD.

People are stupid, and it also seems that everytime Blu Ray owners get some sort of insentive/are excited for something here come the DVD only owners to start some shit. Hopefully CJ/Luke will put more enforcement on this as it's really ruining some threads...

Ok, so I think we're at the point that we NEED to just stop talking and settle to agree to disagree before the thread gets shut down. Let's face it, it's heating up and it needs to stop before it boils over. Aside from that, what you're arguing over is kind of silly to begin with. If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't buy it. Nothing that anyone can say in this forum determines what you buy when you go to wal-mart. Aside from that it's all personal opinion. Sure some fact here says this and some fact here says that, but the contradict themselves all over the place and the only thing that can truly be reliable is your own personal view on the formats.

Now please please please please stop arguing over this and move on with your lives! Or, at least have the common courtesy to discuss this on a thread designed for it. This thread NOT being that one.

Anyhow...

I'm pretty sure that the Diamond Editions are a way to expand upon the Platinum's. I would like to believe that Disney recognizes that the Platinum's aren't living up to the consumers expectations, and are starting this line to make up for the disappointment. The only thing is that I doubt Snow White will live up to it's Platinum release, but at least maybe it'll set a standard that will maintain throughout the line. That would be enough for me, given that it's still amazing!

Humm, seems to me based on what I have seen that the point of the "Diamond Collection" is to re-start with Blue-ray. Hence, actually this post IS about DVD vs. Blue-ray!

I'll stick with the Platinum Collection thank you very much! For the record as well, I have no interest in re-buying "Snow White" this Fall even on DVD as I already have it from the first time. I'm more looking forward to the "Fantasia Films" after that and am sad that they will not be under the Platinum banner most likely.

I only rebuy movies when they're worth the upgrade. Examples are cars, ratatouille, Bugs' Life, the platinums, and Harry Potter. All of which look/sound/have more features than their previous incarnations.

A movie like Enchanted, which only has the added resolution/HD sound and a trivia exclusive is not worth forking over $30. I'll wait until the price drops, and maybe Netflix the film sometime(that disc's picture is pretty exceptional, even on blu).

Platinum, Diamond=Tomaitoes, Tomahtoes. The platinums were meant to push DVD, initially, and you have no reason to ignore the fact that Disney's just doing the same with a new format.

Sadly, just like with the platinums, there will probably be no real standard to the Diamond line.

However, do you not upgrade your computer, because your ten year old one is "good enough"? Technology moves so fast, that to keep up with(all of) it, you would have to upgrade almost every year. New system, or new hardware. Technology is moving, and it's Disney's choice whether or not they movie with it. That doesn't change the fact that you have the same choice. The world doesn't know if you exist, and if you choose not to go with it, it will leave you behind.

The BBFC have classified and passed a trailer for Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition, so I think it's safe to say the title is sticking.
