Jack Skellington wrote:LOL Escapay, I didn't get what WIST standed for, but I do now and I don't think I deserve a nomination although that was a really nice thing to say Disneyboy
Anything that relates YouTube posters to evil demon worshipers is definitely WISTable! :P

But I always stick to my rule of "don't consider it anymore if someone else nominates it" because it "taints" it for me, in that someone is recognizing its WISTability before I do. Seems rather silly/stubborn, but if I start accepting a nominated WIST, then people will intentionally try to write WISTable things hoping someone nominates it. And it's more fun to just randomly update my siggy with a new WIST and have people discover it that way than someone saying "I nominate this!" and then hope that I take the nomination.
Jack Skells wrote:if there's anyone who should be getting a WIST nomination it would probably be Prudence or Julian Carter, they are so sassy and funny at the same time, lol !
I'm pretty sure I've done a Prudence WIST (if I didn't, I'm sorry Prudence!), and I know for certain Jules has been in a couple WISTs (mainly because one of them, Jules got so excited he started his own thread about it, I think).
Jack Skells wrote:But to be perfectly honest Scaps...I'm kind of against the WTF part though. :(
Yeah, some people don't like it, which I understand.

The point is, a WTF is just something that I find so incredibly...well, silly. Something that when you read it you can't believe the person actually said it. Initially it was almost always an "open mouth, insert foot" thing someone said (like Alan suggesting I fly to Fort Worth, Texas to go to a GameStop to buy Beauty and the Beast: Platinum Edition for $16). But over time it's just become a way for me to post something that someone said with the stigma of "They did *not* just say that!" It's not necessarily reflective of the person, but of the idea they're persenting.

With Sprince's WTF, it's attacking the general idea that many DP fans have: that you don't *have* to be a princess to be part of the line, but even so, some legitimate princesses are excluded from the line. I've got a lot against the DP merch line, so having the idea of "you don't have to be a real princess to be a Disney Princess" is utterly absurd in my opinion, especially since it's so hypocritical of people who believe it. It's not an attack on Sprince, just an attack on the idea.

There is a bias, I admit, to who I WIST versus who I WTF, as I tend to WIST people whose posts I agree with more than people whose posts I often find myself butting heads with. Likewise, WTF's usually stem from things I disagree with or find utterly outrageous, but is not always reflective of the poster.

It's pretty much a given that I'm almost always at odds with Sprince, but I have nothing against him personally, which is important when talking to people on the internet. Hate their ideas, but don't hate them as you don't really know them as well as you think you do. I'm sure there's many UDers here who don't like my anti-slipcover anti-DP and anti-TLK opinions. :P

i'm guessing that since we're getting an upgrade from special edition, that means that the previous edition will go out of print quietly just as The Aristocats, Robin Hood, and The Fox and the Hound's gold collection did in the past.

WIST= Wish I Said That

(look at Escapay's signature)
OH  I understood the general gist of what it meant, but never got the actual acronym figured out. I kept on thinking "Wise intelligent statement triangle" or something.

That's likely to explain why it's been suddenly stocked in Wal-Mart and several other stores earlier this year. They wanna get rid of their stock before sending it back to Disney.

I may WIST that in the future. I'll need to find a WTF to go along with it too (I never like to update one without updating the other).

If this gets released in the UK I think I shall get it. I like Oliver & Company, it seems pretty overlooked so I doubt there will be improved picture quality but I really hope it gets a rightly deserved upgrade.

In most cases with (online) pre-orders, it arrives in the mail the same day as if you bought it in a B&M store. In few cases, sometimes it arrives earlier than release date. Even local mom&pop stores may get it early and sell it to you, if you know where to look. There's a local store in my town called Bandit Video, and they almost always get major titles a few weeks before release (at most three weeks, at least three days). I remember getting Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition a week before it streeted, and Meet the Robinsons two weeks before street date. Also, lighthousemike often gets his a month or so before street date (which is how he can give preview screencaps of everything). And of course, UD gets review copies before street date (if Disney sends them out early enough).

Plus, with most Disney store pre-orders they throw in a perk like lithographs or some other store-exclusive merch that entices you to order at their store. And you can still pick it up day-and-date as the regular street date. ;)

IIRC, he has a friend who works/owns a video store that gets its stock early and he acquires copies that way.

I just know, I'm gonna get the movie, I don't think this film deserved to be a test, but then again, it needed to in order for Disney to bring its musical magic back again for the 90's. But anywhos...

I did a special tribute to the film...I need you fellas to tell me what you think...

i am so mad they have not announced this for blu-ray. to me it makes no sense period to start releasing animated films on blu-ray then randomly stop, only to release the big titles and not the smaller ones. it's stupid. i mean seriously all of disney's animation deserves the blu-ray treatment, and they have had the time to remaster it for blu-ray. i think disney is making a really dumb move with this. along with mary poppins.

I called today and they lady said that this was only going to be available on DVD. No Blu-ray will be made of Oliver & Company this time around. Just wanted to confirm. :(

Again, same with Mary Poppins, I absolutely hate to miss out on new releases - but it doesn't make sense for me to buy a standard DVD now that I've upgraded to Blu-ray. I am just going to have to be patient and hope that any good bonus features that I do not have from these releases that I refuse to buy somehow make it over to the eventual forth-coming Blu-ray release.

Ooh, Oliver & Co. gets a re-release? Holy crap - what took Disney so long?

I love this film so much, but I think I'll keep my Gold Collection release and not bother double-dipping just to bank up my Disney Movie Rewards account. Besides, why buy it for a new cover, a shiny slip-cover and new sneak peek trailers to go with it? *nearly gags*

However, I like the design of the new cover over the GC version, but it feels . . . boring somehow. At least the old one was cute and made you go "awwwww" just by looking at it.

Now if it had some good extra stuffies with it (and since most people here want a Blu-ray release) and maybe something for the hardcore Disney fans, then perhaps I'd get it. But no . . . *thumbs-down*

This fails so much. And it's such a great modernized adaptation of a classic tale . . . with talking animals . . . GAWD, it practically screams Disney, yes? This release deserves so much better. (Heck, deleted scenes? Commentary? Interviews? Anything but a new DVD set-top game, plz.)

The big question that I have is why does Oliver & Company get reissued for its 20th anniversary, but Hercules is still stuck with its letterboxed unrestored Gold Collection? 2007 would have been a great opportunity to market a 10th anniversary edition. Oliver & Company received a special edition that I would say satisfied 90% of its fans (and its still in print!). I would argue that Hercules is more popular than Oliver & Company. That's the way it feels to me, at least.
