Disney Developing 'Phineas and Ferb' Feature

Hmm... not sure how I feel about it being a combination of 2D and live action...

So me and my wife discovered this show just recently on Netflix. I was originally a bit uneasy about it as I incorrectly assumed that all modern Disney Channel shows are crap, but was VERY surprised by exactly how good this one was. I really enjoyed it.

That said, I'd hate for Disney to take their first great tv animation and ruin it, and from the looks of that live action interview crap they have and what I hear they have planned later, I worry they may do just that. I'm starting to wonder if Iger is a bigger dope then Eisner was. His fixation on "franchises" is going to ruin a lot of great projects. I'd hate for this show to be one of the casualties.

Well, it depends. It may be like "The Smurfs" (the 2011 movie) and Enchanted when Phineas and Ferb comes to the real world. Eeeek....they will be two UGLY people. O__O IDK, it sounds pretty good to me, let's see what they do with it first.

From what I read, this may not be a live action combo thing. It sounds to me like it is Phineas and Ferb going into another dimension to discover that Perry is actually a secret agent. Its also going to be a Disney Channel movie, not one for theaters. Although, it would probably do pretty well on the big screen.

^ I've only seen a couple of episodes, but isn't Perry being a secret agent, undetected by Phineas and Ferb, featured in almost every one? It seems to me that that's a big part of the show (the essence, if you will ) So I really don't think that a movie about that is such a good idea, considering the effect it will have on the show.

Unless the spy people who Perry Works for does like MIB and erase their memory at the end.....and god knows how many times in so many movies that has happened

I'm strongly against a live action/ animation hybrid. I don't like that they are doing that with Smurfs and I don't like the sound of that here. As I said, those interview bits really suck, so I could only imagine what a full on film would look like!

As for the idea of a film where the boys find out that Perry is really a secret agent, that may not suck depending on how it is done. It would make for a great "end of production" film.

Oh, that's completely different! I think that would be a wonderful way to end things, and maybe Candace could finally get the boys in trouble? As long as they do not make any more episodes.

Exactly. Shows that have "end of production" type films, or just films period and then have more shows after seem to not be as good after the film. Rugrats and Spongebob come to mind...

Yeah but the Agent P they will discover will most likely be the one from another dimension and not their own Agent P. I can't see them ending the show. as far as live action, that's a mistake. Why do it? People love the animated series why do a show with real kids and how could it be as good as the tv show?

Where are they going to find kids with triangle and f-shaped heads?

Well said, I can agree with what you say. It would be heard to see them end the show right now. But, let us keep in mind it is in season three and few cartoon shows go longer then that.

Ya, the live action bit is really dumb.

This coming Friday, August 5th, Disney Channel presents a new movie: Phineas & Ferb Across the Second Dimension and I noticed that they are only allowing 90 minutes for an 87 minute feature film. So they will probably edit this down for the time frame and we HAVE to buy it on DVD when it is released August 23 in order to get the full story and all the bonus stuff.

I don't expect the bonus stuff on television, but shouldn't they allow two hours to show this feature film?? How do the rest of you feel about this glaring error in programming?

Once again, Disney shafts its loyal viewers and probably will use half of the commercial time to promote the DVD release of the film.

Interesting. If that's true, it probably isn't likely to happen in Canada. Family Channel is airing the Phineas & Ferb movie on Friday as well, but they don't have commercial breaks.

If you have Verizon, it's on demand NOW! I saw it yesterday! It was sooooo good that I saw it twice.

MY THOUGHTS (MAJOR SPOILERS):

ENDING: I'm really disappoined about the ending. Because in the ending, Major Monogram wipes out everyone's memories of the events in the movie, including Perry being an agent. I really thought things would change after the movie like Phineas and Ferb, knowing that Perry is out to save the world, so they can stop being like, "Hey where's Perry?"

The only good thing that I like about the ending is that Phineas and Isabella do kiss! After the kiss, it turns out Phineas likes her too. His reaction to the kiss is so cute!

ACTION: I really like the action in this movie. It was really cool. 2nd dimension Doof was a really great bad guy. In fact, there's this really cool showdown with him and Phineas towards the end. He threatens to turn him and Perry into his robots, and that was really awesome! I really wish Ferb was a part of the showdown b/c it's called PHINEAS AND FERB...! 2nd dim. Doof had a great voice too (his accent is a lil' different from the 1st dimension Doof, and I love why he turns evil, takes over the world etc. is because.......he lost his favorite choo-choo train as a kid!

SONGS: The songs were cool, too. In one of the songs, (the 2 Doofiersmitzs), the 1st Doof was like, "Do llamas creep you out?" I forget what the 2nd Doof's answer was, but the 1st Doof responses with, "No, I mean the guy who plays Meep!" I hate breaking the 4th wall, but even I thought that was really funny! And in Phineas and Ferb's song with their 2nd Dimension selves, part of the show's theme song was in the song and that sounded awesome. The 2nd Dimension Phineas's reaction to that part of the song was hysterical! His face was priceless!

Finally, in the beginning song, the opening reminded me of "When will my Life Begin?" from Tangled with the beginning of the song's music, the lyrics, and that P+F sing a tiny bit of it w/ Ferb's deep voice. The song was a great way to open the movie.

Finally: 4.5/5

How long is the movie?? According to Amazon, it is 87 minutes, which means that Disney is going to be editing the crap out of it, unless, which I doubt highly, they decide to run the premier uninterrupted by commercials, but we will still get those asinine promos across the bottom of the screen, which irritate the heck out of our grandkids and me. I know they are just promoting their upcoming shows, but come on, let's show a complete show without all those stupid promos that take up half of the screen.

estefan: How much time are they allowing for it to play in Canada? That's the secret. If they allow 90 minutes that is great, if they allow shorter time, then it will be the edited version.

Can't wait for August 23rd when it comes to DVD with all the extras and the CD with 8 songs on it.

Family is airing it from 8:00 to 9:30pm. So, it's likely the entire feature.
