Well, now Steve Hulett at The Animation Guild has confirmed it:
Yes, now that Blue Sky has broken it, I will confirm that Elves is back in development. I've talked to artists working on it.
See? I do occasionally cough a tid bit up. It just has to see the light of day someplace else first.

It's staying in CGI, however. I think hand-drawn would have suited it well - that concept art is amazing! I love the nature-based elements of the elves.

Well, Blue Sky didn't mention it with the other 2-D films - he acted like those were separate. And comments on both Blue Sky and TAG Blog said it was CGI. Not sure how reliable it is.

I agree that 2D would be awesome, but given what we're seeing from Tangled the 3D might look pretty good.

n addition, instead of originally being in CGI, the movie is now going to be hand-drawn. [3] ??? Interesting this is the link they posted with it -

King of the Elves back in development?

A while back, Chris Williams presented to Lasseter, Catmull and Ross his pitch for his next project. It was rejected outright by the Chairman of Walt Disney Studios as playing "too young" so it was shelved and Chris went away trying to retool his pitch. Now you all know that Disney Animation was going to do a film called "The King of the Elves," based on the Philip K. Dick story. Well, it too was shelved because of story problems. The take that Aaron Blaise & Robert Walker had wasn't going smoothly. Lasseter decided to stop development on it until they had a better take on the project. Well, now they have that better take, and the version that will be going forward is much different thanks to Chris Williams new direction on the project. That's right, Williams is the new director of KOTE, and it is moving forward in development. While it hasn't received approval to go into production, Williams is one of John's "first finds" at WDAS and he likes what he sees in the young animator/director. Since he came aboard, the story flow has become much smoother than the previous try.

^ That's what I was wondering. I could've sworn that I had read that it now was going to be in 2D, and I'm guessing it must've been on BlueSkyDisney...

several sites say this:
''has been retooled as a traditionally animated feature, giving Disney’s artists something meaty to work on after Pooh.''

Let's take a wait and see approach before we get our hopes up. Right now, we have conflicting reports.

That article says that KotE will be in CG...
Maybe Disney doesn't even know yet which medium they'll use...?

I would assume that this film would probably use the same technology used by Tangled if released in CGI. That being the case, while it's in development, would the animators necessarily need to choose a medium right now. Everything I've seen so far of Tangled's development has not looked much different than any of the hand drawn classics.

I really like the designs and hope it will be hand-drawn and think they'd look great, hand drawn.
