yeah, realistically, rarely does any audience i'm in universally vocally agree on the quality of a trailer.

I see the "Mr. Whiskers" line is getting used in these trailers more and more. Well, let's hope it's not as overused as "Pour the wine" and "feast your eyes" on the "Smoulder".

I'm actually really looking forward to this movie. Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorites. Stop motion is not bad animation, just different. But I guess it's not for everyone.

Just attended a special preview screening of Tim Burton's latest animated feature "Frankenweenie" and here are some quick thoughts:

It was great and vintage Tim Burton! The macabre humour is so delightful, as is the attention to the detail in the animation and it's very evident how personal to Burton the story is. They do kind of move away from the Victor/Sparky relationship after a while, but the climax is worth it. There's one part involving a character's transformation I am so glad wasn't spoiled in the trailers. I also think the animators must have had a ball with one of the climactic action scenes that pays homage to classic Japanese cinema. The scene-stealing character for me was probably the little big-eyed girl, voiced by Catherine O'Hara. Wish she was given more screen-time, but even in scenes where she's just in the background and doing nothing, she's absolutely hilarious. Wasn't impressed with the 3-D, though. Didn't add much, but it's been a while since 3-D has wowed me. Happy Feet Two was the last one where I felt the effect was worth it.

Anyway, definitely check out "Frankenweenie" when it opens in two weeks. Boy, this year's Animated Feature category is going to be so crowded.

DON'T WATCH the Frankenweenie spot labelled "In Theatres Friday." It spoils one of the best parts in the film.

I've been watching some of the trailers and I really hope that they make a Saturday cartoon out of this and Mr Whiskers plushies.

I saw the movie today at a nearby SilverCity.

Brilliant! it`s gonna win the animated feature awards for sure, unless something else comes up! Beautiful Photography, good characters, and great homages! He really put his all into this one!

And the showtime I was going to I discovered at the last minute was an IMAX showing.

And remember kids... this is what happens when a PG-13 rated or higher movie with terrible reviews beat up a family film that has great reviews.

So two 2012 stop-motion films bomb at the box-office (Pirates, Frankenweenie) and another performs somewhat anemically (Paranorman). Guess we can kiss goodbye to good ol' stop-motion, lads! It's NOT PROFITABLE!

I sure hope I am counting my chickens before they hatch.

Studios and filmmakers actually have love for stop motion. Otherwise it wouldve died two years ago

The Pirates! Band of Misfits didn't bomb. It made $121 million worldwide on a $55 million budget. Aardman's films tend to do extremely well overseas (especially the UK), Pirates simply had the unfortunate tendency of being released in North America a week before The Avengers.

As for Frankenweenie, it only cost $38 million. I think good word-of-mouth through October and decent international numbers should be more than enough for it to make back its budget. I think Hotel Transylvania grabbing most peoples' attention and being in black-and-white had a hand in harming its opening weekend tally a tad.
