^^ Thanks for posting! I'm not a big fan of motion capture as an animation technique, but the actual movie looks promising. I love that part in the end when Scrooge blows a snowflake off his nose, it's very impressive.
Disney's not promoting the movie much though. There's only been one trailer and the movie's coming out in what, two months?
Btw, is the trailer narrator the same man who dubs Harry Potter trailers?

I believe it is. I listened to the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and they sounded the same, except with the HP6 voice he added a little more spookiness (if that's a word).
It looks like it will be really good. I'll add it to my list of movies to see this year.
One trailer, I know what you mean, but too many movies get treated this way. I was going to see Howl's Moving Castle and forgot about it, advertising didn't help me remember. Mind you, I can't even remember seeing anything about Tales of Earthsea, so I've got a feeling it went straight to DVD. I hope Ponyo gets a theatrical release in New Zealand.
Anyway, sorry for going off topic

I am! I'll be on vacation when it comes out, though, so hopefully I'll be able to see it then...otherwise I have to wait.

It might be fun seeing it on vacation.
I almost went to see G-Force while vacationing in Disney World over the summer.

I am DEFINITELY excited for this! I love Jim Carrey, so I will see anything with him in it. Also, considering I also love Christmas themes, this is a win-win situation for me!

Did anyone see the preview last night during The Simpsons Halloween Special? I thought it was okay but it kind of looked like they were making Scrooge look like a joke in a few of the clips. It also looks like a movie where Carrey gets to run loose.

I wasn't aware of any movies that involved Jim Carrey that didn't let him run loose

Toon Tuesday: Is "Disney's A Christmas Carol" a little too scary for its own good?

If you watch the Japanese trailer that Jim posted the link to in that article, did you notice that the
Ghost of Christmas Present looks sort of like the one from A Muppet Christmas Carol? That makes me sad; I absolutely love the one from AMCC, and wish that Disney would be more original with this movie's design for that character.
Well, now that "Disney's A Christmas Carol" has officially been rated PG (Because the MPAA recently decided that some of the material in this Robert Zemeckis movie "may not be suitable for children" due to "scary sequences and images"), that's really not an issue anymore. Disney can now put signage outside of the train tour's inflatable theatre that actually informs parents about this movie's rating.
Was the movie at one point going to be rated G, or it just didn't have a rating, and it only recently received one? I don't think that I was ever under the impression that this wouldn't be rated PG...

I don't think he really looks much like the one in Muppet, but just going with the description in the book. Even in films before Muppets, he often is a red-bearded giant wearing a green hunter robe, as that's how he is described in the book as well.
This sort of has me hopeful though for the film. Dickens original tale is not a warm fuzzy Christmas tale that has become known in the movies, but more of a ghost story centering around Christmas. There are many dark moments, such as when Marley removes his bandage and his unhinged jaw drops to the floor in a scream, or the withered forms of Avarice and Want at the feet of the Ghost of Christmas Present. I think the only version that really captured the dark sensibilities of the original tale well is the Richard Williams animated special from the 1970s, which sadly has yet to come on DVD. I'm hoping Zemeckis won't be too afraid to include many of the story's ghostly and dark elements too.

Anybody else seeing the trailer for this a lot lately? I mean, it makes sense for it to play before Toy Story and Where the Wild Things Are, but I actually got back from seeing Zombieland, which along with a bunch of horror films, they showed this. I'm expecting to see it again when I go see Astro Boy next weekend. Although, watching the trailer multiple times isn't going to make me any more interested.
Well, if it flops, Zemeckis can't blame it on lack-of-marketing.

Oh, okay, then I feel better about it. I haven't seen any versions besides
Mickey's Christmas Carol and
A Muppet Christmas Carol, so I didn't know any better!
We read the book in 7th grade, but I really don't remember anything about it. Thanks, Tim!

He said the same thing that Jim Hill did in his article- that the film isn't for kids and that the ghosts are scary, and that Disney needs to market it better so parents don't end up with scared kids. Very nice train tour report, though!

I think most children can handle mildly scary stuff (it's only PG) pretty well. Better, I think, than most parents give them credit for.

I'm planning to take my 5-year-old brother to see this as soon as it comes to theaters. After I read this article, I briefed him that it would be scary, but he's a trooper... he really doesn't scare very easily. Mother gave permission to let him go, as well, since it really is only PG-rated. I just hope it's as good as it looks like it could be...
