I hate to say this but I think Spider-Man 3 will be a disaster. Well, maybe not a disaster - certainly no Batman & Robin disaster, but it's headed down the same path.
So far we know the film will contain:
* Eddie Brock
* The Black Costume
* Gwen Stacy
* Mary Jane Watson
* The Sandman (who killed Ben Parker)
* The 'New' Gobin (who I still think will be called The Hobgoblin as the video game used this name on some of their past publicity)
* John Jameson is likely too (after being introduced in SM2 for no real reason - at least he would have a reason for being in SM3)
* Venom
And... we see Spider-Man "go Bad". *Buzz* Sorry, but you're buzzed out whoever thought that up. WE DO NOT WANT OR NEED TO SEE SPIDER-MAN ACT IN A MORALLY QUESTIONABLE WAY. Not only is he a role model for millions of kids, but we have half a dozen other comic strip adaptations to film we can watch if that's what we want to see. The Spider-Man as a character works best when he's upbeat and wisecracking even if his life as Peter Parker is falling apart.
I fear all the careful character study and development which made Spider-Man 2 so successful (both of Spider-Man and the villain) will be missing, and all we'll have is "cool" set-piece after "cool" set-peice mixed up with some romantic angst that even the cast of Hollyoaks would laugh at if they were asked to perform it.
All the above make the film look far, far to busy. And finally, Venom, as a character, sucks. A cardboard cut out has more character depth and motivation.

finally someone who shares my opinion. This movie looks like it's going to push way too much down our throats.
Sequelitis will strike BIG time this summer. And even Spiderman is going to suffer from it.

I am really excited about Spider-Man 3! I actually think there is a plot twist involving the Sandman being the killer of Uncle Ben. That's just an idea. I think too that Venom is gonig to be in a good bit of the movie because from the trailers they've shown,they have Peter ripping off the symbiote so we already know what's going to happen with the costume and we know that Spidey and Harry have a battle and that leads to Harry being taken to the hospital so that leaves room for Venom.Also it has been reported that Spider-Man 3 is going to be over 2 hours.

It is New Goblin, not Hobgoblin. This was confirmed I think. I wished they had went with Green Goblin II, Hobgoblin, or really anything other than New Goblin.
We really need to see Spider-Man go bad. If not then he has no reason to get rid of the symbiote. I think Venom will be handled similar to the 90s animated series. It is confirmed that the symbiote is from space, unlike in the Ultimate universe. We want see the Secret Wars, so that really only leaves something similar to the animated series origin. Venom started out as a good villian in the comics. The early encounters were good, but then he got put into everything and diluted until he basically became a joke. Carnage and all the other symbiotes only added to it.
I don't think Venom will be in the film much at all. Sure the symbiote will, but Eddie/Venom want. I think he will be near the end, and fight Spider-Man then credits roll. Most of the film will deal with Sandman and Harry. I still think Harry will turn and help Peter with Venom. Throwing Gwen Stacy into the film will also be an interesting plot point. I still don't see the need in this right now. Guess its just to cause some friction between Mary Jane and Peter, who knows...
I agree this film will be very busy, and has the potential to become a train wreck. However I hope it turns out good, and I think it will. It will be a lot more action packed than the first two. Hopefully it will be a better ending to the Spider-Man Trilogy than The Last Stand was to the X-Men Trilogy.

I feel so spoiled right now. Wished I hadn't read it, but I did. I couldn't help myself... Just like Revenge of the Sith I'm going to go into Spider-Man 3 and know the whole story. I still enjoyed Sith so I hope this works for Spidey 3.
The novel for Spider-Man 3 is out. On another site they have a review of it, and scans of the last chapters for the final battle. All I can say is that it ROCKS! If the movie is half as good as what I read it will be a great film. If it plays out like the book then this will easily be the best Spider-Man movie. Sandman sounds amazing, Venom sounds great. Still a few things I don't like about him though. Harry, etc... all look good. Well it looked good on paper.
I want say anymore other than I hope this is at least 2 and a half or 3 hours long. It will need all the time it can get. There is a lot of stuff happening here.
And I'll leave with that so I will avoid posting any spoilers.

Here's the Spider-man 3 trailer 3 (Right click and "Save ... As"):

http://gspsfsm.vo.llnwd.net/o18/Exclusi ... D-720p.mov (720p - 117 MB)
It took me about 7 to 8 hours to download that last night, but it looks good, can't wait to see it! I'm very tempted, but I won't make any comments about this trailer.
Enjoy!!!!

When I first saw Spiderman, I hated Tobey Maguire being Peter, but than after the second time I had seen it Toby seemed to fit the Nerdy aspect of the character so I'm ok with it now (still hate Toby though

) As for villains I think for the most part they suck! Venom is well.....he seems out of place I think, especially if he's only in the last bit of the movie. Quick question though, wasn't Eddie Brock already introduced in the first Spiderman movie as the guy Peter beat up in school after he recieved his powers? I can see why they brought the Venom character in, since they have the Symbiote. As for Sandman, I didn't really know who he was until I went and looked him up in Wikipedia

But after the first Spiderman I figured they would visit the Green Goblin character again, I personally hope that Harry/Green Goblin dies

Overall I base a fair amount of my opinion of a movie based off the Villain(s) alone, just because without the villain(s) there's really no movie, or it ends up moving at a slow pace (IMO at least). If I had to pick three villains to put in the movie I would have picked three of the following:
Mysterio
Hobgoblin (NOT Harry as the Hobgoblin!!!! but Roderick Kingsley)
Electro or Shocker
Rhino - a battle between him and Spiderman would have been cool
Man Wolf
Lizard
Morbius - He is my fav. of Spidermans enemies, not sure why though.....
They could have also incorporated a small-time villain like the Vulture or Chameleon in the beginning for a brief battle, and than have them arrested. As for other characters I would have loved to see Black Cat incorporated, maybe not as an Ally, but also not as a Foe sort of an inbetween character? Anyways, I know I won't see this in the theaters due to how annoying people can be there, so I'll end up renting it when it comes out.

Vulture and Chameleon were not small time villians. Out of the ones listed I would have liked to see Lizard. I don't know if he would have worked without another villian though. Harry as the Goblin and Lizard would have been ok. Everyone has been saying Venom since the first movie came out. I guess this is sort of a way to please the fans that wanted Venom. I hope it works. The only thing I can say is leave Carnage out of the films, one symbiote is enough.
I'm already reading reviews that say the movie is too busy and has too many villians. I'm still very excited to see it though, even after being spoiled by the novel.
Anyway tickets are already on sale in my area. I'm going with a few friends to the midnight showing. Should be a blast. Anyone else already got tickets for Spider-Man 3?

This may be old news for some, but on April 20th Spidey director Sam Raimi confirmed that Sony Pictures has plans to make a Spider-man 4, 5 & 6!
Here's the link:

What do you guys think? Good news or overkill?

All I will say is the following:
I cannot put into words the level of excitement that I have for this. Spider-Man 2 was the most thrilling theatre-going experience I've had in all my 20 years of life on this planet.
I plan to go see this at the midnight showing with a huge group of friends. I fear that some things will happen in this movie due to what I know about the actors and how some of them feel about doing more sequels. That, and I'm not too keen about Topher Grace as Eddie Brock, but maybe he'll surprise me, we'll see.
I truly hope that this is full of the Spidey goodness I've come to know and love from the movies. I'll be extremely angry if this really is the last Spider-Man movie. Although they said that about the X-Men movies, and I think that's a load of crap. These things make too much money to be left alone.
Anywho, as much as I love this topic, I'm gonna try to stay away from it to not read any spoilers. I wanna be spoiler free for the movie. Hell, I wont even watch any trailers. The only one I've seen was the first teaser trailer, and that's it.
I hope you all enjoy this movie.
(And for those of you who are comic readers, Spidey's Back in Black!!

)

In early
Spider-Man 3 scripts, The Lizard was going to be the chief villian.
Director Sam Raimi has said that he would love to make more Spidey films, but he has also said he would only go forth with more films if Tobey would go with him. Unfortunately, Tobey has expressed feelings to not renew his Peter Parker contract.
Personally, I wouldn't object to going forth without Tobey. I never really liked him as Peter...

Yup, you know the drill - discuss expectations, reactions, viewing plans, etc.
I had planned for months on seeing the Thursday midnight show, but this Thursday night I'll be in rural Vermont, and neither of the two theaters within a 50 mile radius of where I'll be are gonna have it, so I guess I'll have to break a Spidey trend and see it sometime opening week(end) instead.
What are everybody else's plans on seeing it?
Cheers,
JM

I'm going to see the midnight showing with a bunch of my friends. Should be a blast.

Isn't there already a Spider-man 3 discussion taking place on here?
Boxofficemojo.com reports that SP3 will break the record this week with the widest release ever. It's set for 4,252 theatres!
The previous record holder was Shrek 2 with 4,223. This weekend is gonna be huge!

I'll likely be seeing it either Friday or Saturday. There are two theatres playing it in IMAX near me, so it'll definately be in that format.
