I just hope that Pinocchio is the other one for 2008, then Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty in 2009
Yay!!!!!!! I also hope that "Pinocchio" is the Fall 2008 release. I'm really excited for "101 Dalmatians" coming out! I only have that one (and "Pinocchio", and "The Jungle Book", and "Peter Pan") on VHS, so I'll be glad to add it (and them) to my collection!
But I am happy that 101 Dalmatians is getting the treatment that it deserves. Well, "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" was in the original 10 films to be in the Platinum Edition line, and therefore should be before "Pinocchio". On the other hand, look what happened for "Peter Pan". hooray!), but I think that (despite how much I really do love 101 Dalmatians), Pinocchio was superior to it in Animation, characters (even the villians. I know High School kids who still refuse to watch Pinocchio because Monstro scares the holy crap out of them. And, the donkey transformation scene scares many more!), and also better (well, not really better...more like more) songs. Also, not to mention, it needs the recognition as being the second DAC, released just 3 years after Snow White (and superior to it in almost every way). That's my reasoning as to why Pinocchio should be released before 101 Dalmatians. But, it's set in stone now that 101 Dalmatians will be first, so it will come in March 2008.

I'm excited! So far, Peter Pan is looking to be THE most disappointing Platinum yet, but I'm still giving it a chance to suprise us. Did anyone not find it odd that, of that list of
"Titles Coming To Blu-Ray" Snow White was suspiciously missing.
Missing, of course,
because it will be the first original Disney Classic to have the Blu-Ray treatment.
BluRay & HD-DVDs will be all the rage in 2008.
You may also notice that everything on that list above are
"recent" classics. Recent meaning they were re-released on Platinum DVD,
digitally restored & made nice n fresh.
And in the case of Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin & The Lion King,
thanks to their recent DVD "remastering" they are more than ready for a Blu-Ray digital conversion.
You'll notice also that Sleeping Beauty is pictured during that preview, primarily because it has been cleaned up in readiness for the Platinum Re-Release ( and will be cleaned up even more for its subsequent Blu-Ray release ).
The primary reason for having Nemo & Monsters Inc & all those crisp looking Pixar movies as their first run releases is to justify having just bought a Blu-Ray player by showing your wife how "clear the picture is"
What better way than those Pixar classics to highlight the crispness & clarity of a new format?
But what becomes of the classics like Sleeping Beauty & Snow White?
Shameful DVDs will be out out out.
But Blu-Ray will be In In In!
Once they are able to make the 65 year old Fantasia look crisp & amazing on a High Definition screen, you'll see it on Disney Blu-Ray.
Snow White on Blu-Ray in 2008 keeps the release in check with the
7 Year Morotorium rule, you see.
Time to save your pennies for Blu-Ray Players people
( or shameful PS3s ) if you're that way inclined.

Well, no one knows for certain whether or not "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" will be matted or not. It would be beneficial if both the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio and the matted 1.75:1(most likely) versions were on the disc, but seeing the likes of "Robin Hood" and likely "The AristoCats" are in their matted forms, it is probable that "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" and the upcoming PE "The Jungle Book" will be matted.blackcauldron85 wrote:So, "101 Dalmatians" won't be presented in its original aspect ratio? Well, it's pretty much both. The animator's created the movie in 1.33:1 aspect ratio, knowing that the film would be presented in a matted version. So the artists wanted the film to be presented in, say 1.75:1 aspect ratio, and theatrically that's how it was presented. It was presented in a matted form because movie theaters did not show any 1.33:1 movies in the 60's.
