I know this topic is a little old, but I thought it was the best place to post this. On Wikipedia, it has a listing of voice casting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid_III

Jodi Benson as Ariel
Samuel E. Wright as Sebastian
Cam Clarke as Flounder
Tara Strong as Melody
Rene Auberjonois as Louis the Chef
Frank Welker as Max the Sheepdog
Max Casella as Tip
Stephen Furst as Dash
Edie McClurg as Carlotta the Maid
Rob Paulsen as Eric
Maurice LaMarche as Scuttle
Kenneth Mars as Triton
Kari Wahlgren as Alana

There's no Pat Carroll, but all the TLM2 cast is there. Don't know if this info. can be trusted, but I'm very interested in Alana appearing out of nowhere. If it's true, then all hope of a LM prequel is gone. -_-

Even though I think you know this, but Wikipedia isn't reliable.

Yes, it's most likely not reliable. But then, on Kari Wahlgren's homepage (the voice cast as Alana), it says she's to voice Ariel's older sister alongside actress Sally Field in TLMIII.

http://www.kariwahlgren.net/news.html

Maybe they added the LM2 cast (minus Pat Carroll) on the assumption that it wouldn't be a prequel when they wouldn't really even know. I think the Sally Field thing's been mentioned somewhere in this topic before though... :?:

EDIT: When I searched google for other sources of information, an interview with Steven Root came up that indicated that he was about to work on TLM3 with Sally Field (don't know if that's already been confirmed or not, sorry).

I hope that isn't right, I don't know how much more Tip and Dash I can take. :headshake:

Sally Field In TLMIII

Hey there guys.
Just wanted to put in my 50 cents. Firstly I am thrilled with this- I was not to disappointed with TLMII, which is saying something since Mermaid 1 is my favourite Disney film of all time- so if this one is even 5 percent better then that one I'll be happy.

On the Sally Field issue I wanted to point something out. Sally is now at least in her late fifties, early sixties so there is no way she will be playing Ariel's older sister. But note, no Pat Coral? I think it's more likely Sally may be adopting the role of TLM III's new villian. I considered she could be the mother if it's a prequel but I extremely doubt it judging Sally's personality (she is an awesome villian).

As for the prequel thing... If it's a prequel why has it been confirmed that Jodi will be in the film. There is no way Jodi Bensen will put on a 5 year old Ariel voice. I have a feeling this is either a prequel set around the time of the TV series or its set after the first film. That doesn't nessassarily mean after film II... just after the original some time.

Can't wait to here your thoughts on this.
One month left till Mermaid 1 returns!!!

Sorry about that. The way I posted it, it sounded like I was saying Sally Field was supposed to be playing one of Ariel's sisters, too. I meant that she's another actress that was supposed to be voicing in the movie, not that she was a sister. :P

And I could definitely see Sally Field as a motherly voice if it's a prequel. Kind of skeptical on how great she would be as a villainess though. That, and if they were going to have another elderly female villain, they'd probably just get Pat Carroll to do her again.

I really enjoyed TLM and it's sequal. I suppose that they'd really have to do something stupid for me not to like this one. Although I can't say exactly what that is ... I can't quite pin point it if you know what I mean.

I've enjoyed most of Disney's Sequels, Prequels, Midquels, an all. So it's easy to go into this movie with an open mind. ^^

I don't see why everyone hates the sequel/prequel movies. Of course none of them came even close to the originals (except Bambi II), but I think they've all been pretty decent.

I'm looking forward to this release.

I think it's got something to do with viewing our favorite Disney stories as somewhat "closed". There's been no change to the original stories for ages, and suddenly a movie is released, adding a sub-story into the middle of your favorite movie? Without wanting to offend anyone, I kind of think it "disturbs" the feel of the original movie. I didn't see TLM2 for a long time, fearing that it would ruin the movie for me. Even it was decent, it would still change my view of Ariel and the others.

I guess childhood memories are just very delicate?

HUGE UPDATE!!

I was in The Disney Store today in Manchester, and a 'trailer' began and it said 'Little Mermaid 3' so I was puzzled because I didn't think there was any footage of it out yet.

Anyway, it DID sound like Jodi benson, and it's was Ariel at the same age as she was in the original TLM, so I guess it's a midquel (because she was a mermaid and not a human). The only real thing I can tell you is that it isn't sequel to mermaid two.

The 'trailer' started with Ariel and Flounder swimming about, to which Sebastian (I think) invited Ariel and Flounder over to dance, and Ariel said 'let's go' (or something along those lines). The whole screening was just that song. The song might've been, or reminded me of the song at the end of Beetle Juice when the young girl dances around the house. Whether or not is is that, I cannot remember.

I hope this helps people, I'm only sorry I can't tell you more, but keep your eyes peeled at your nearest Disney store!

It also said 'coming soon' so no idea of a release yet.

(phew!) Thanks :) :)[/b]

I really hope this movie doesn't turn out to be total fluff (a movie that entertains but has no point or substance, ). Bambi II was enough to last me a lifetime.

The Little Mermaid III Well-Animated Sneak Peek?

I'm quite certain that what Enchantress saw was "The Little Mermaid III Musical Sneak Peak" that will be on The Little Mermaid Special Edition DVD. It mentioned the title "The Little Mermaid III", and featured a song from said film. This is certainly musical, and what I had been expecting fro the sneak peek.

Now, we'll all see this on The Little Mermaid Special Edition DVD when we get it, but I'll ask anyway. Enchantress, did the animation look good? Better than the animation of The Little Mermaid II?

I think you're right! It must've been the sneak peek. :D

Yeah the animation looked good :) , I'm not sure if it was better than 'II' (because I've not seen this in years) but it didn't look at all cheap to me. I forgot to add that I'm certian that Samuel L. Wright has returned to voice Sebastian, so if two of the leading actors have returned, that's good right? :P

I doubt it will be early 2007...but I would be surprised if Disney waited til 2008 to release it. They'll want to cash in on the success of TLM PE.

The Little Mermaid III discussion

Posted: Mon Sep 18, 2006 12:46 pm
by Starsong
I noticed that there was a lot of discussion concerning the newly revealed Little Mermaid III teaser trailer courtesy of lighthousemike's advance copy of The Little Mermaid PE. With all of the elements introduced in the brief blurp of video, I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts/opinions/expectations.

Personally, I'm voting for a sequel/midquel in that it features Ariel recollecting events of her past to Melody, her daughter. I enjoyed Melody's character in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, but I feel that she could do with some maturing. I'd like to see Melody a bit older now and ready for Ariel to finally "sing the song of the sea" to her, to use a line from the musical sequence "For a Moment" in TLMII.

As for the locket, I'm tossed up about what I think. On one hand it was clearly shown to be engraved with Melody's name in TLMII, thus leading one to believe it was a gift especially for her. If this is the case then it the movie has to take place after the events of the sequel. On the other, it may not be the same piece of jewelry. Either way, the setting of the movie (the teaser, at least) is much darker than early footage we recieved of TLMII. Especially with the haunting voice of Ariel rising overlapping the background music and her gazing up through the depths of a darkened ocean.

What does everyone else think?
