Of course you won't. None of us will. The Lion King 1 1/2 is going directly to video on February 10, so how could we see it in theaters?

I would if they gave it a theatrical release (and I think it deserves it more than that Teacher's Pet junk they're issuing next month) but with a direct-to-video release it's a moot point isn't it?

Ouch. Harsh. It wasn't the whole 10 years . . . for some of that time he was looking for Simba and drawing pretty pictures with fruit paint. Besides, if Disney EVER TOUCHES Rafiki in a direct-to-video release . . . I don't know what I'll have to do . . . drastic measures will have to be taken . . .

The 2nd screenshot is from the movie, I'm sure. But I'm not sure about the other 2. The first one can be excluded because that's definatly promo-art. The 2nd screenshot looks great, it looks very clean and detailed! I'm wondering how Ma and Uncle Max got on that scene with Timon dancing the Hula? They weren't there in the first movie! I guess this is another "not to take serious" thing in TLK 1 1/2 (like Prince Philip said).

It is not coming out to theatres it is a direct to video/dvd movie.

This week, a giant Pumbaa & Timon balloon was parked here in San Diego to advertise TLK1.5. I forgot what location its at, unfortunately.

Cool, Thanks again, Starion! I really like that first picture since it shows Simba as an "older" kid. Like between the stages of Hakuna Matata how they show him for a brief second.

I constantly find Disney amazing! NO REALLY! I mean PLEASE a two disc release for a DTV release? OH LORD (can I say that enough) I mean it ironic enough that there's ANOTHER P O K E at the Lion King, let alone ANOTHER (Kinda Another) Lion King based feature....LET IT DIE!!!

Let's concentrate on something ORGINIAL! Does anyone else agree? Quit ruining their feature films, return the Disney Channel back to it's orginal glory or something kewl like that...

People bash them and call them "cheapquels", but Disney actually goes to the effort of putting out a 2-disc release (making them less "cheap"), and that isn't good enough either.

I don't want to rant (but that's what I do, so I will), but the people who work on the DTVs put in just as much effort on (to use 2099net's stats) 1/7 (!) of the budget of the major releases. So goddammit - why can't they tell their story too?

I usually avoid cheapquels like the plague, but for The Lion King it's different. The Lion King sequels I follow with pride and obsess over. For the complete story on why, go over <a href=http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... =2365>here in the polls & games subforum</a> where I took half a dozen or so paragraphs (and probably about 1/2 hour or more out of my life) to answer yes to my own thread, questioning the membership of our board who's getting The Lion King 1 1/2 DVD.

That said, it's not the artists that I despise in the cheapquels usually. I must admit that the artists are probably terrific people and they do amazing work for their budgets. It's the idea of the cheapquels on principle that I don't like, especially when they're Walt's films which would never have had a sequel if he could stop them. The fault there lies with WDTV-A and BVHE execs who order these cheapies into production to make a quick buck and I'm really sorry if I ever take out the blame on the animators. If they can't do animation on the level of the original, it's because the budget won't allow it and in perspective the animation is always great in the cheaps. I really wish that these guys would get their own feature movie to shine in where they can really show the world their stuff and not just soulless rehashes of Disney classics that the execs want on store shelves.

That we can certainly agree upon. The Three Musketeers is a good step in that direction I think, although it is not based on an original story.

I think if the Sydney/TV animators were given a decent script (happy to provide ), and a good sized budget (not so able to provide ) then we would see some truly great work produced. No one could argue that they don't have the experience, and I truly believe every one of the animated movies, especially the DTVs, deserve 2 DVD sets.

Oh, and to steer this thread back on topic a bit more than it is.

1) Where are the reviews? This is a highly-anticipated Disney release that's coming in 2-3 weeks. I've seen a couple reviews of the MOVIE, but none of the DVD. Not that I need convincing to get it, but I'd still like to see some reviews (I still wonder if the pilot episode of Timon & Pumbaa, or the ones dealing with Timon's banishment and meeting Pumbaa, are Easter eggs, but I doubt it. Even though they would be best suited to this release as opposed to anything else, other than its own season sets, Disney doesn't seem to have caught onto this, and even if they did, I don't think they'd leave omething that significant as an Easter egg.)

2) The official site and Disney Movie Finder both now list the aspect ratio as 1.66:1. So as I thought, the 1.78:1 aspect ratio was another of the Movie Finder's infamous mistakes (at one time pre-release it listed The Rescuers DVD as 1.33:1 P&S, although that was 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen.) Just FYI.

3) I just created a thread tonight over in the polls & games area asking <a href=http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... 2365>who's getting The Lion King 1 1/2</a>. If you haven't already, please go vote and share your thoughts!

Normally I would agree with you, oh Great Luminous One. I too strongly believe all of Disney's animated films should get a 2 disc release.

However there's a problem with the Lion King 1.5 2 disc set. The whole thing is just full of what we call "fluff". There seems to be nothing, bar a 15 minute "making of" about the actual making of the movie - and I'm sure that will just scratch the surface for the kids.

I don't know, all that content and not even a commentary. On a project like this it would be good to hear from the writers. In this example, the 2 disc set sounds like a waste. Do we really need another Virtual Safari? If Disney wants people to appreciate their DTV releases more, they need to show all the hard work and effort that goes into them, not "mockumentaries" on Timon's life-story.
