Wow!

I was reading the front page and thought it was too good to be true! Then I realized it wasn't April 1. So I rushed to forum to post how I feel about this news.
It's wonderful!

I'm glad Disney's actually listening to the fans. I'm still in shock...now I won't have to watch the crappy transfers from VHS to DVDr of Ducktales and C&D.
I assume many more wll follow from this! Yay!

Do you think Disney will only do these two shows or expand to Gummi Beears, etc? Also do you think Disney will ever get around to shows newer shows like Recess or House of Mouse?

Think it all depends on how these sell and I expect them to sell pretty well.
I think you'll probably see Disney afternoon first (Gummi, etc.) and then I think they'll explore other options like House of Mouse and possibly Muppet Babies and other properties.
I think the whole TV show craze caught disney off guard and they are only now realizing that there is money (alot of money) to be had by taking this road. Essentially it is a fairly inexpensive way for them to make money. They already have the shows and the footage, they arent terribly old or worn and all they really have to do is ship em out there at a reasonable cost and people will buy them. They don't have to film anything, and the hobby pretty much generates its own news.

Yeah, I think what convinced Disney to release cartoons was the fact that Supermand sold so well and that Garfield & Friends was selling well. I have a strong feeling the Ducktales set will have 25 episodes and Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers has about 21. Ducktales will be complete with 4 box sets and Rescue Rangers on 3. The next sets to come will be (I think) Gummi Bears and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Then with the Little Mermaid movie coming to DVD in the fall we will see The Little Mermaid Series (Complete!) on DVD along with Aladdin. Then when Hercules comes to Platinum edition we will get the series same for 101 Dalmations.

Where do I start?
Disney didn't release Superman OR Garfield. I doubt they'll fit all of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin on 1 DVD set (Although that would be cool) and Hercules isn't coming to Platinum Edition........ but besides that I agree with your timeline of the next cartoons.

I didn't mean they would be on the same set. I meant same date like Ducktales and Rangers. I hope this will not be a yearly thing!!!

I dont think he meant Disney releases superman and garfield, but rather they were encouraged by the sales of other cartoons released on dvd. WB has been amazed at how well their sets have been selling.
I would like to think that before we see the later series (hercules, the other one's i dont like) that they'd go for more of their older series like Talespin, Darkwing, etc.
I think disney is going to be in for a pleasant surprise with these sales.

I hope it won't be a yearly thing, either. I can't wait that long! it would be cool if it was on the same set, but I doubt that Disney would do that (even though thats not what u meant)

I think Disney is expecting these sales to be high, but I'm sure that they will sell better than they expected. I would LOVE for them to release some newer series (101D, Herc, Recess, DCOS) but I would also LOVE for them to release some more of the older shows (TaleSpin, GoofTroop, etc)

I dunno i am a big fan of the older stuff. I just love 80's/early 90's animation. To me it was kind of a rebirth from cost cutting 70's stuff and before the scribbles of the later 90's.
I mean personally i've always said i would be content with Garfield, Ducktales, Batman, Muppet Babies and Real Ghostbusters on DVD.
Right now I'm more than half way there and I'm hopinh Ghostbusters isn't too far into the future.

Once I have all the episodes of the series I will be throwing away my home made copies. lol Do you think The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh will be released? I don't know because that is targeted at younger children then other Disney Cartoons (Ducktales, etc) so we may just get stuck with the "Growing up With.." crap.

As I said earlier in this thread, New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is my favorite Disney show, and I have a nasty feeling Disney will relegate it to the crapfest that is the "Growing up with Winnie the Pooh" line. Disney probably won't stop looking at it as their preschool franchise, and therefore will treat it as such. I *REALLY* hope I'm wrong, though. I'd love to see Pooh released in 3-Disc boxed sets (and with its opening theme song intact).

I think it really depends on demand and sales.
The bottom line is disney only has so many "classics" they can release multiple times and those only come out once or twice a year.
At some point money talks and if there is money waiting to be had (which there is) it'll happen.
Four years ago Ducktales, Garfield, etc. seemed like a pipe dream. Then the tv dvd craze took off and i dont see it ending anytime soon. I think it'll happen, but when i don't know.

Well, if Gargoyles, Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers and DuckTales do good at selling we might see Gummi Bears ( I don't remember this show that much), Wuzzles ( I don't remember this show at all) , Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin and Goof Troop.
So please buy them so we could see more future volumes.

If you're talking about multi-format televisions, I think that means a TV that transmits both NTSC and PAL images. Most (if not all) British TVs of the last five or so years are multi-format ones. If you have a multi-region player and don't have a multi-format TV, then the whole thing comes out in black and white. Like my old TV.

Not necessarily a bootleg. There are plenty of legitimate Region-Free DVDs, though these are generally not released by major studios. If you're seeing "Region-Free" on a Disney DVD eBay auction, then yes, you're correct.

The cartoons I want to be released are:
(Not counting Ducktales and Chip)
Muppet Babies
Gummi Bears
Darkwing Duck
Goof Troop
Quack Pack
Wuzzles
Talesin
Bonkers
Jungle Cubs
Recess
Timon & Pumbaa
Little Mermiad
Hercules
*Then modern ones like Weekenders, etc. I don't count on that.
Does anyone have a full list of every disney cartoon series?
