I didn't mind the first batch of the smaller pictures, and thought they looked fine, but after seeing these all I have to say is...blech. I hope these are just differently colored publicity pictures and not actual screencaps. If so, then Disney has royally screwed up the coloring of the characters. As Don Duck said, Maleficent isn't supposed to have any dark blue color on her. Marc Davis himself said in the SE commentary about Eyvind Earle's coloring "Where I put flames, he chose a lavender color." That is in no way lavender at all, and her skin should be grayish-pale green, not a light blue like they're giving her now. The first two pictures I don't mind as much since the colors only seem a bit more vibrant, but the colors to Maleficent in the last picture are just so way off from every publicity picture I've seen of her. I'm not going to make a final judgement though until I see the actual film, but going by that picture, they'll be way off if they choose to do the restoration like that.

Oh, and speaking of commentary, I'm sorry I'm taking so long getting the audio commentary for you, Scaps. It's just been rather busy for me the last couple of days, but I promise I'll send it out later today.[/b]

Don't worry, take all the time you need, Howard! I look forward to getting in in my e-mail (it may be there right now, I haven't checked it yet!)! BTW, did you enjoy the Doctor Who mp3?

If these are actual screenshots, or they turn up anything remotely like that, I'm buying the SE on eBay. Those look horrible.

I'm fine with the screenshots EXCEPT Maleficent with the blue instead of purple - that can't be right!

I would like to point out that the colors on Maleficent, though way off for her actual colors, could be perfectly accurate for that scene. The scene displayed is a very dark and oddly lit scene (by a green fire), so it's only natural that the colors would be darkened and made a cooler color, considering the setting of the scene.

I don't know, this restoration is sort of like a teen movie. You know it'll end up having no substance at all, but for some reason you can't stop watching it. Still, I don't think I'll double dip for this. None of the bonus features released so far seem that much better than the SE and the 'restoration'--if that's what we're calling it--is really a detrimental factor as well.

Fear not all good Sleeping Beauty fans who see that restorations can not always be trusted! Supersmart Disney Duster is here to crack the case! Even though it wasn't hard to figure out at all, I'm just inflating my ego!

Okay, there's strong evidence that someone altered the screencaps, making them brighter, and, particularly, bluer! In all these comparisons, the original is on the left, and the newer and bluer high-definition one is on the right.

Take a look at their high-definition version of the logo, which we know is supposed to be purple!:
Image

You can clearly see the same over-brightness in this next one. Fauna looks greener, which is not good in my opinion since the brown for those animals she's associated with should be played up:
Image

In this next one, we can see that not only is the once purply blue now more bright blue, the once redder pink is now bright pink:
Image

Finally, blue took over purple once again in the cap we most cried about. The red around the raven's eye is also more pink. I actually think Maleficent looks greener in the right one, like Fauna did:
Image

Lord-of-sith, loyal Mally fan he is, is right, in that scene the lighting does make Maleficent look different, perhaps her sleeves and collar are a little darker and perhaps bluer. Not quite the violet we see in most scenes. Take a look at a cap from an older version, I'm pretty sure is the SE 2003 DVD restoration: http://magicalscreencaps.com/images/sle ... y_0855.jpg

To be honest, the grayer cottage looks more like the new restoration and what we're used to, and the pink and blue is more to the shades we're used to, too. But all in all, I prefer the first Platinum publicity stills/screencaps we've seen on the left.

Okay, I read all that you wrote, and looked at all the pictures, and I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that someone altered the screencaps...how do you know that altering happened vs. that's what the movie really looks like now?

I hope you're right, that someone just altered with the pictures and that the film will look great, but how do you know?

("How does she know you love her?"...lol...I had an "Enchanted" moment...)

Amy...the logo is supposed to be purple, and it is in many official images from Disney...the new image has made it blue. And brighter. And in the new images of the film, they look bluer and brighter. Purple, especially, has turned bluer.

I know...Didn't you mean that we shouldn't worry about the film looking brighter and bluer, that only these screencaps (and logo) look bluer and brighter? That, when the DVD comes out in October, the colors won't be so bright or blue?

Or are you saying that brighter and bluer is a good thing...?

Because a lot of us associate SB with purple...mostly because of Maleficent...

:?

Sorry if I'm sounding stupid, but I want to understand what you mean!

No Amy, you are asking me something you should, so I can be clear for everyone. Everyone should make their own conclusions and opinions from what I have presented. I'm trying to say someone (possibly even Disney themselves!) messed with the screencaps we saw before to make them look not how they are supposed to look, because the logo, and Maleficent, are definately supposed to be purple.

There is a strong suggestion that the film will not look like the newer high-defintion screencaps, on the right.

So yes, it's very, very doubtful the film will look as bright and blue as that when we get our hands on it.

Oooooh, gotcha! But why would Disney do that?!? Because then we'll praise the film when it comes out for looking so great, compared to the bright and blue we thought would be in the restored version? Versus comparing it with the not-so-different 2003 restored version?

That's usually happens in picture like those.
It's definitely brighter then what it's supposed to be.

Well Amy, it could be a number of reasons. I saw the same thing happen to a huge high-definition image of Cinderella's Platinum Cover, it was bluer and brighter. It could just be done accidently in making the high-definition images, perhaps made by some unprofessional, not someone from Disney. But if it is from Disney, we know they like to make things bright and catchy, and often merchandise and publicity looks different to attract attention first, even if the actual film doesn't look that way.

It's funny you thought of making the images looks so bad we really love seeing the actual film! I actually wondered if that's why "Enchanted" made the fairy tale films look so simple and cutesy and happy and saccharine. Because then people might watch the real Disney fairy tales, and the princesses of those fairy tales, and see that they aren't that naive or sweet or bad.

Disney Duster,I don't think it's fair of you to call Giselle a wannabe or saying that Enchanted is not a real Disney Princess movie, she's is a real Disney Princess and the film is a real Princess.
It's like saying Cinderella is not a real Disney Princess or that Cinderella isn't a real Disney Princess because Cinderella is a lot like Snow White.

He said that Andalasia looks happy and cutesy so people will watch the "real" Princess films and he also said that he thinks Giselle is based on all of them and she's not a real Princess but I think it's wrong and Giselle is a real Princess and Enchanted is a real Princess movie.
(By the way Disney Duster,if you"ll play check the DS game (and maybe also the GBA) then according to it Andalasia has also monsters like centaurs and mushrooms, they even have their own place where animated Dragon Narrisa is).
But it's also topic,it's not Enchanted thread.

It's kind of funny, but the Disney Princesses who I've always considered "real" princesses were the ones who started as a princess. For example, Snow White, Jasmine and Ariel were each a princess from the beginning of their movie. Cinderella and Belle became a princess at the very end of their movies, so I actually never thought of them as princesses. :)

^hmm, what did you think of Sleeping Beauty? She was technically a princess by birth, but only really became one later in the film.
