I saw The Man. The critics can bash this all they want, but if you go in thinking about what it is, a silly buddy comedy, it's pretty funny.

The Man- 8/10

Over the last week, I've seen four well-known movies, each for the first time:

Network - Really brilliant ways of going about making their point. It was funny and intriguing and stirring all at once. An important artifact of its time.

Unforgiven - I know next to nothing about Westerns, and this is now one of the few that I have seen. It is definitely my favorite thus far. A really good movie. #98 of all time? Dunno... I won't nit pick that (even if who was in it and directed it might have had a lot to do with it making the cut... unless it was monumental in the Western genre- I wouldn't know). It was a very good story and it was told very well. The acting was all really good too. I'm not positive, but this might have been the first time I've seen Clint Eastwood in a movie.

Catwoman - So much went wrong with this movie. The eternal Batman fan in me couldn't help but be somewhat entertained, but the story was weak and the dialogue was horrible. Despite the hype about this being unique from the Batman movies, it was still basically the same story as the Catwoman line in Batman Returns, sans Batman and much worse. It seems that everyone- cast and crew- was content with making a movie that strived to do only one thing: make Halle Berry look hot in leather... which she did (although I prefer her with long hair).

Big - Definitely the best of the 4. Wow- I was really won over by this one. Perhaps my favorite of Tom Hanks' performances (I'm usually a little wishy-washy when it comes to him). This is the kind of movie that Penny Marshall is really good with. Plus it had the guy from Newsies in it. I saw it on TV, so I don't know how much was edited out, but I can't wait to get it on DVD (or should I wait for a better release?)

Sin City - This one sure is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand photography is beautiful. Filming in almost entirely black and white is a daring move, and I give the directors full credit for doing so. Acting, dialogue, stunts, atmosphere. All amazing. Almost perfect. So original, so unique. I was blown away at times.

But then comes the storyline. As with Kill Bill, I could not see what the hell was so original about it! I mean, I know it's based on graphic novels, but nothing about the story is unique. Same old, same old only with fancy dialogue. In fact, the first and second stories were also entirely unbelievable. Who goes out on a killing fest for a girl he hardly knows / a girl he doesn't even love. The third story was great though. Another problem is I never cared for any of the characters. They were also so synical and puffed up jerks.

That's my take. Overall, 8/10 for pure originality. Lets hope #2 follows more unique stories.

I have to admit to just watching "MY Tutor", a "B" teenage movie from the early eighties. It is an entertaining movie but it is a film "you get what you paid for."

I have nothing against Unforgiven, but it is nowhere near my 98th favorite movie or even in my top ten Westerns. (What list are you looking at?)
Westerns I like better: The Searchers, Stagecoach, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Wild Bunch, Rio Bravo, High Noon, Red River, My Darling Clementine, Destry Rides Again, The Shootist , The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and Once Upon In The West.

Monster-in-Law- wasn't the greatest movie, but it sure was funny!

In our Home Theater we just watched:

Monster-in-Law - don't care if Hanoi Jane is in it, this is a very funny movie. I liked it a lot.

Fever Pitch - I like good romantic comedies and I like baseball and to get both in one movie really knocks me out. Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore are very good in this Farrelly Brothers comedy that hits its mark in more ways than one.

In Good Company - Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, and Scarlett Johansson in a feel good comedy that asks what would you do if it turns out your boss is half your age and is dating your daughter. Very funny, and real comedy that hits all the good points and make for a good two hours worth of watching.

Lord of the Rings - Return of the King
I love this exciting conclusion to a very good triology. I'm still confused where they went in the end. I mean where did they all sail to?

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - they did Douglas Adams proud. Very original and funny. I give it

Freddy Vs. Jason - who can say STUPID? Now all I have to look forward to is Land of the Dead.

Lazario, I conquer! I totally felt I wasted a perfectly useful one and a half hours! Anyway, I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory again. Fun, fun, fun! Jonny Depp is awesome!

Platoon

One of the best Vietnam movies ever!

The Iron Giant

5 out 5 stars, hands-down!

The last evening or two we have watched:

Submerged - the latest from Steven Seagal. These films are always good entertainment.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - British comedy starring among others Jason Statham (Transporter, Transporter 2).

First six episodes of Space Above and Beyond - this was one heck of a television series. Unfortunately it was only on one season.

Hellraiser: Hellworld


Boring, not scary, very bad death sequences and extremely unimaginative (not at all Hellraiser style).....

... and the movie wasn't even about Hellraiser!!! ;

Worst Hellraiser movie ever!!!

And one of the worst I've seen.

Please, don't watch it.

Battle Royale

I watch this movie even more often than The Little Mermaid!

Today I watched a fabulous documentary which I purchased at Best Buy:

Chaos and Creation in the Backyard - Paul McCartney - the newest music from Sir Paul and, in my opinion, the best thing he has done in a long time. The documentary is very insightful and has a lot to offer about why he chose certain songs and why he plays so many of the instrumental parts himself.

The other shorts offered include video of two hits and a short 8 minute film including one of the songs.

The CD release of the album also comes with this special packaging.

If you like Paul McCartney, you will like this, I guarantee it!!

I just finished watching The Dukes of Hazzard.

The Boys & Girl From County Clare
Great movie, great scenery of Ireland, great acting and cast.

Ever After - seen it a million times, but it was on tv, so I watched it after I saw Lauren Graham present on the Emmy's. (She so deserved to be nominated)

Watched a few over the weekend

Hide and Seek: It wasnt really scary it was more along the lines of susspenful good performance by Rober and Dokota ending surprising.. Critics didnt really like it but I thought it was good

Anchorman: This Movie Is Hilarious... everthing is funny about it.. i actually didnt like it when i first saw it in theaters but it gets better and alot more hilariou as you watch it.

The Spongebob Squarepants movie: I LOVE the show.... but the movie left out everything i loved about the show... the movie needed more chracters like squidward, sandy, mr krabs not just spongebob and patrick... it could have been alot better

South Park Movie: Unlike Spongebob movie the movie added everything that makes the showw great.. deffinatley hillarious..

I havent seen any movies in theaters in awhile.. the last i saw was red eye which i personnaly found the 2nd best film this year.
