Yes. Sleeping Beauty has the best designs and movement, it's true, and while we're at it, the best on-modelness probably, than any movie in the history of movies (well actually I think Cinderella has the best designs but lets not go there)...but Beauty and the Beast beats it at the acting part. You know, the emotional aspect of animation. So overall, with that castle and the Beast and Belle and the Prince and Belle's gold dress designs, and that ballroom scene and transformation, you bet Beauty and the Beast is the best in animation!

Marce82, what scenes were done by Mark Henn and Tony Baxter?

Hey Fareb,

I can't give you an exact list of ALL the scenes each of them did... there are a few I know.

Baxter animated the sequence where Belle sings "Belle (reprise)" and all of Belle during the DANCING in the ballroom sequence. I also know he did the shot during Belle, where they sing "look there she goes, that girl is strange, no question. Dazed and distracted can't you tell" (these are two shots)

Henn animated her during the whole interaction with the beast when she negotiates to take her father's place. He also animated her in the ending, when all the objects are regaining their human form (she is in the background, but still!). And all of Belle during "Something there" (not sure he did her when she was being very static, when the beast is the more active character in the shot).

Again, Im sure they did way more than that... but those are some of the ones I know they did.

I looked further into it and found out that Henn did this scenes/moments:
- Negotiation/ "Come into the light".
- West Wing.
- Tending Beast's wound.
- Something There.
- Objects turning into humans right after she says "It is you!".

Thanks for the info... I actually forgot that he did the West Wing (that is detailed in the Making of book)... but I didn't know he did the tending the wounds scene! Thank you! It does look like his animation. Mark Henn is great, he is my favorite living animator.

And yeah... about the ending... there are a bunch of AWFUL close-ups of Belle between the transformation and the moment she says "it IS you".... those are NOT Mark Henn.

Oh, also pretty sure he did all the shots of Belle when the Beast is dying (you know... "if I had gotten here sooner"... all those).

But damn, it seems Mark got the best acting scenes... poor James Baxter, what did HE get??? (other than the ones I mentioned earlier)

It makes sense that Henn would do that. Seems to me that he got the emotional scenes where Belle has the most facial expressions.

From what I conclude Baxter got the scenes where she does a lot of movements - walking, dancing, musical numbers.

And I agree about Henn, my favorite animator as well and a huge contributor to the women of Disney.

I don't know who did the library scene but I can tell that he also did "my father's not crazy" and the moment when she walks out of her room to the kitchen before "Be Our Guest".

I think your analysis of which animator got which scenes is probably correct...

As far as those three scenes you just mentioned... you are probably right. Belle's eyes a little off (they look a little more Ariel-shaped in all three) and bow placement is similar in all three. But ah... was it the animator the culprit? Or the cleanup artist? Maybe both?

I looked at Animation Screencapa and you're right! I thought it was colored because there was this toy version of it that had the roses and leaves colored I saw as a kid.

There's the loungefly replica that has the leaves and rose colored, but IMO this one looks better. I'd buy them but I decided to focus on home releases instead of merchandise. I already have a lot of Beauty and the Beast stuff, including that loungefly replica.

Well.... this new version is nice, but it's more like a reinterpretation... more stylized, more ornate. The loungefly is an EXACT replica from the film... other than the colored parts. Which I actually kinda like. And the silver in that one isn't as shiny. Feels more like an antique.

Both are nice though!

You're right. I didn't even notice that this mirror is more stylized. Now comparing between the two I do prefer the loungefly mirror over that one.

Hmmmm...I guess if I wanted to buy one I'd buy the Loungefly one, too.

Soooo...I got the 2016 bluray in the mail today and thanks to HD, I can now notice a very weird visual during the "Belle" song...two extras staring at a turtle.

I am not making this up.
