OMG, I'm so happy! I can't wait now until October!

I think the new making of, the virtual walk-thru, and the deleted songs I'm looking forward to the most. I missed the chance to ever see the walk-thru at DL, so I think this is the one I'm most happy about.
Scaps wrote:And it's nice to attach a number to the deleted songs. Two are featured in the 2003 audio documentary: "Riddle Diddle" and "Go to Sleep, Rest Ye Well", and PrincePhillipFan mentioned two more ("Mirage" and "Sunbeams In Pocket").
There's also a deleted song I recently found called Sing A Smiling Song. It's set to the Silver Fairy theme from the ballet, which the lyrics to Riddle Diddle are also set to, and it's now just used instrumentally in the film. It sounds like it's supposed to be another song that would have been used for the fairies to sing during the cottage clean-up. From the looks of it, I think it might have been deleted at the last minute from the film too, considering the song is included on both the Mary Martin Sleeping Beauty album, and the Sleeping Beauty Songs record.

I'm predicting that Demi Lovato will cover "Once Upon a Dream", since Disney is marketing her so heavily now.

I'm just going to wait for the UD review, to see if I should keep my 2003 version, have both, or buy the new one and sell the old one. I'm torn by just reading what was posted here.

Yeah, the audio documentary is the commentary from the 2003 DVD. I simply call it (and the Peter Pan one) an audio documentary because it functions more like one than as a traditional commentary (live, screen-specific, etc.).
Mike wrote:Because if you want to be all proper and official and letting people know the exact correct information, you should call it what it's called, and just nickname it in paranthesis if you must.
I had no idea I was being proper and official, I just copied it from my DVDspecs list. :P

But I'll change it so as to not confuse future readers.

Ahh, I was aware of "Sing a Smiling Song" but didn't think it was a deleted song since it was from a story album. If it is a legitimate deleted song, then perhaps it will be coupled with "Riddle Diddle" as an alternate version (thus making it still 4 songs, just with an alternate version of one)...like this, sort of...

4 Deleted Songs:
-Riddle Diddle
--Version 1 (Riddle Diddle)
--Version 2 (Sing a Smiling Song)
-Go to Sleep, Rest Ye Well
-Mirage
-Sunbeams in Pocket

I would personally recommend you to keep both editions. Even though most of the bonus features are on the new edition, if by any chance you do not like something about this release, you can always have the other one. Better the devil you know ;).

I guess I got caught up in the excitement of reading all the special features that I missed this comment by Scaps. :p
Scaps wrote:Excellent. The audio documentary alone is worth hunting it down.

For years I've been meaning to either compile a written transcript of the entire thing or rip the audio into an mp3, but never had the time (or dedication) to do either.
Actually, not that long while ago, I managed to record the audio commentary off the DVD, and split it up into 8 separate mp3 audio tracks. If you're interested (or if anyone else is interested in hearing the commentary) I'll be more than happy to email them to you if you'd like. :)

I like deleted scenes and songs (I actually just sold my "The Aristocats" and "Robin Hood" Gold Collection DVDs to buy the new editions with the deleted scenes & songs), so it really depends on what is missing from the new edition.

Based on Albert's post about what might be missing from the new edition, what I'd care about is:
Escapay wrote:History & Behind the Scenes: (2 hours, 47 minutes, 16 seconds, 669 Stills)
-Once Upon a Dream: The Making of Sleeping Beauty (16:22)

-Production (14 minutes, 3 seconds) - the first three can easily be edited into the documentary, while the latter two are old laserdisc pieces that likely won't be carried over (even if the widescreen to pan-and-scan comparison should be)
--The Music (2:46)
--The Design (3:22)
--Creating the Backgrounds (1:07)
I'd rather only have one edition- either just keep the one I have, or sell that one and use that money toward the new edition...

I mean, if the new DVD has a good Making Of documentary, then I guess it wouldn't hurt to sell the old version and buy the new one, right?

I guess I like to have as many editions as possible, LOL. I've got like 3 Alices In Wonderland, 2 Cinderellas, oh and you don't wanna know about music cd's

I think that since the two editions are vastly different, and both offer very good (and exclusive-to-that-version) content, it's best to keep both. After all, that audio documentary is really really good (as I often say, lol) and the making-of pieces, while brief, do have some value and it's really not known if they'll be on the new edition.

I already plan on keeping my old edition for the audio documentary (there it is again!) and extras, as well as the transfer (it's the 2.35:1 35mm print, and I'd like it for both posterity and comparison purposes).

As for the whole "get rid of the old one for the new", for me it's a case-by-case basis. Using Disney titles as an example, I got the new Aristocats and Robin Hood because of the exclusive extras (however brief they were...grr), but kept the old ones for the trailer (Aristocats) and nostalgia (Robin Hood was the last DVD I bought in Florida during my 2005 program before I went back home). And the animated ratios as well, simply for comparison purposes. Or to go in a "reverse" direction, after I already had the 40th Anniversary Edition of Mary Poppins in 2004, I later acquired the old Gold Collection version in 2006 for the features exclusive to that version (the short documentary and the vintage premiere featurette).

I base whether or not to "upgrade" on a case-by-case basis, too..I didn't "upgrade" to the new "Dumbo" or "The Sword in the Stone" DVDs because the new discs weren't better in terms of bonus features. That's why I just need to read the UD review, and that way I hopefully will know if I should buy or sell or what.

I really don't like talk radio...I know that an audio commentary is different than talk radio, sort of, I still just don't usually listen to them. "Sleeping Beauty" and "Newsies" are the only audio commentaries I've ever listened to. I mean, I just never think to listen to them. If I really knew what kind of information was on them, then maybe I'd be more inclined to listen to them...I mean I'm sure that I'd love the information provided on them, but I'm a visual learner, and I'd rather watch the people talk versus just hear them, I guess...

Kram's like that too, he rarely listens to the commentary. I relish them and love listening to them. Funny enough, I don't listen to talk radio either...

Once I get the mp3's from Howard, I'll put a sample of it up on youtube, and intercut it with scenes from the movie, concept art, and maybe even stills of the people talking so it'll help you get a visual sense... ;) (after all, half of the material in documentaries is footage that isn't of the interviewee, though they do talk over that footage.)

I can focus well during documentaries, oddly enough. The visuals in documentaries, though, that aren't of people talking, still deal with what is being said. Audio commentaries just have audio during the movie. Maybe it's hard for me to concentrate on the audio when the exciting movie is playing- I don't know. I should give them another chance!

Thanks a lot, L&E for the bonus feature list, and thanks, Albert for the detailed comparisons between that and the SE. The only features I'll really miss are the audio commentary/documentary, the 1951 story outline, trailers, and the Grand Canyon short. The old commentary is covered thanks to our very own PrincePhillipFan (who I'll be e-mailing as we get closer to the PE release). The 1951 story outline could possibly be implemented within the Cine Explore mode on the BD, perhaps as concept art is displayed. I'll be optimistic and say that the trailers will show up in the Publicity section, especially after the awesome one we got for 101 Dalmatians. So the only feature I care about that's almost surely been dropped is the Grand Canyon short. Since I admittedly find the short dull (and only want it on the PE for completeness' sake), then there's not much of a reason for me to hold onto my SE.

Me too. Too bad the S.E. is so damn expensive! Moreso than Beauty and the Beast and Snow White according to ebay.com.

Does anyone know why BatB and SW are getting prices as low as $20 now? I haven't checked in awhile lately, but one night I saw three of them sell for less than $30  Their re-released haven't even been announced yet, whilst SB's has...

The new extras sound very promising! I plan on keeping the 2003 version, and picking this up as well!

That was plan all along, really. It didn't matter if the PE had exactly the same features as the SE. It's Sleeping Beauty (my favorite), and if it's becoming a PE, I'm buying it no matter what! :D

The problem with the two CineExplorer tracks I've seen so far (Cars and that rat film I can't spell and can't be bothered to cut and paste the title this early in the morning) is that while they show reams and reams of production art, it does so at its own pace and order. You can't select any of the artwork for viewing later. I hope Sleeping Beauty has both CineExplorer AND production art galleries (even if a few pop-up in Explorer mode, but you can press Enter to view the whole gallery).

Incidentally Amy, perhaps you should keep your SE DVD and buy the Blu-ray - I'm sure it won't be long before you "switch" (let's face it, it's inevitable at some point) and then you get the best of both worlds (and commentaries with visuals) :)

Being as the two TV "specials" are being carried over on the DVD, I'm reasonably confident that the Blu-ray will include Grand Canyon. After all, it can be presented in High Definition and with 2 discs (and one of the discs only having a 70 minute odd film on it) there's more than enough room available for Disney. We shall have to see…

But after all my complaints about Disney's recent releases (on Blu-ray as well as DVD) it looks like Disney are pulling out their big guns for Sleeping Beauty. Never did I imagine the DVD would get the set it is reported as getting. It’s a shame, because the fact Sleeping Beauty can get such a set shows how slap-dash they were with releases like 101 Dalmatians – really if Sleeping Beauty Platinum can get the two TV specials ported over more or less in their entirety, why no full Disneyland episode for All About Dogs on 101 Dalmatians? It's not like there wasn't room – it would easily fit on Disk 1 with room to spare?

However, I'm optimistic that Grand Canyon will appear on Blu…
