It sounds like they really got a story together this time.

I'm very intrigued. I think this will be one of the most beautiful CG films to come out over the next few years. And I love that there is still respect and admiration for Alan Menken within the walls of WDAS. If they're serious about pursuing that classic Disney from the 50s, they NEED Menken. He proved with Enchanted he "gets" Disney. True Love's Kiss is like a lost song from Snow White.

I'm very happy to hear that the directors' secret dream is to one day see the tower in Fantasyland and hear the music on Main Street. That is a beautiful and powerful goal that I always hoped the creators of a potential Rapunzel film would have. Because let's be real, Rapunzel is the last great fairytale left to be adapted by Disney. I want it to rock out world.

I'm officially highly anticipating Rapunzel now.

I'm very excited for Rapunzel; perhaps even more so than The Princess and the Frog.

i have a feeling the CGI isn't going be be anything special. I mean really.. look at the photos behind the directors in the photo with her in the blue dress. it looks like it could have been taken out of the incredibles. honestly why they made such a big deal about this movie looking like a painting is beyond me and completely ridiculous because from what I've seen... it looks no different at all.

Yeah, The Incredibles totally looked like a bunch of coloured squares flickering onscreen.

Seriously dude ... you're going to write off Rapunzel's visuals based on a barely visible concept art piece taken off a magazine scan?

And since we're talking of the visuals, can somebody read the post I left in the previous page? It winded up last and I suspect nobody's seen it.

no i'm not but it's pretty obvious it's more of a still than concept art. it's just from what we've heard the characters would be more 2D than 3D. i don't know. i think we'll have to wait and see once we get real stills but i still bet that the character will be very dimensional.

There seems to be a minor change in the design. From what I can remember, the art direction of the movie would be the kind we saw in the films from the 40's, like Pinicchio and Fantasia. Now they are saying it will remind about the 50's. Personally, I would prefer the early 40's.

No offence, but othjers have said the same thing again and again, that they assumed the characters would be 2D or handdrawn or whatever. But I'm afraid they will all be CGI characters. It is the rendering, design and movements that will remind about handdrawn animation. "The best of both worlds", means just that. It will not have a pure handdrawn look, or a pure CGI look we know from a lot of other movies, but the best of both.

That's a weird thing to say when you still havn't seen a single frame from the movie.

In addition to PatF, I'm very excited for Rapunzel, probably even more than the former. Rapunzel just sounds like a unique combination of comedy, drama, romance, music, and magic that other Disney classics had, and most recently Enchanted!

i really like this too. however i disagree completely with rapunzel being the last great fairy tale part. i think they could really pull something great together with rumplestiltzkin and the princess and the pea. I also think the snow queen could be great but that's not classic fairy tale.

there's so much potential for different ways they could go with it. i just wish they would go back to the fairy tales and stay with them for a while, 2D though. there's something magical about 2D fairy tales. can't beat em.

I'm not opposed to Disney creating fairy tales. I'm really interested to see how The Princess and the Frog goes. I mean it's not exactly original, but it's Disney own unique spin on the original tale. I would also like to see a animated version of Babes in Toyland or Tom Thumb.

I also had this idea of Disney taking a animated spin to Cleopatra. I would just like to see how Disney would animate ancient Egypt. They could also do something as obvious as Aida, but being how popular the broadway show was and how much they would probably have to change it to make it a animated classic, I think i'd prefer it to be left alone.

Anyhow, I don't think Disney has to stick with "traditional" fairy tales to achieve that classic feel that we all love.

Anyway, I suspect Menken will be the most memorable thing about this film. That description of the main theme (used sometimes for the lovers and sometimes for Gothel) sounds amazing--I can't wait to hear it! The only thing that breaks me about this film is the fact that it's 3D. No, I'm not opposed to 3D in general (though I'll always prefer 2D), but I just always thought Disney's princess films should all be in the same medium. Now Rapunzel, like Giselle, could never fit in beside Cinderella, et al.

I wonder, though, if this'll get compared to The Bear and the Bow by Pixar, their first fairy tale-ish film which I think comes out 2010, because of it being in 3D. TB&TB sounds like the better story, but Rapunzel'll have hands down the best music. Still, the one I'm looking forward to the most is TP&TF.

I think the egg is actually a star-filled sky, and maybe mountains or grass, painted on a wall or stone. Rapunzel wants to see the world.

You can't take every picture of a "hot" guy and pick the best features to make the hottest guy ever. First of all, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, no one can decide what's the hottest guy or feature of a guy ever. But more than that, if it can be done, then why not make every film have the hottest guy ever? What is Lasseter going to do for Pixar's prince? You need to make a guy that looks like he fits in that specific world, and story. Some guy who's a good match for Rapunzel.

The old one had a beautiful and unique-looking outfit, as well as a cute quirky face with green eyes. It was good at least in those things. But the design we saw in the magazine is also nice, if only her outfit was the old one.

Tim, thank you so much! I agree, Bastian sounded not just better, and more royal, but also more historically and regionally correct.

Old Fish Tale, maybe you prefer the sound of the name Flyn, but traditional names that make sense in the fairy tale are important.

Julian, I, too, am worried about losing Glen Keane's vision. But he's still on the film last time we checked, and that new Rapunzel design keeps some of his old design.

That's not true. It didn't sound as good as any Snow White song, or enough like one. More importantly, Menken didn't "get" Walt era Disney so much as make fun of it. But I admit Menken still might be closest to sounding like old Disney that we can get now.[/quote]

Nomad2010, they have not finished mastering the hand-drawn, painterly, and CGI combined look yet. But anyway, if it is meant to look like a painting, think about it, please. Paintings are meant to look dimensional. People paint them to look like they have dimension. But the final film, at least following Glen Keane, is essentialy supposed to look like a painting, that revolves 3-D, and moves as well as any hand-drawn animation.

Divinity, if they do make the film look like Glen Keane's vision, Rapunzel will just look like a more painted, detailed princess next to all the others. In clipart and all the stuff in books and merchandise, she'll probably be simplified, like the others were for merchandise, and look just like them.

Consider how Snow White had shadow, blush, shine in her hair, and other details in her original film animation. So Belle and Jasmine had shading and even some digital blush.

Why not? Because it was written by HC Andersen, instead of being a part of a folklore and fairy tale tradition? So what about The Little Mermaid, which is also based on a tale by Andersen? What's the definition of a classic fairy tale?

Perhaps a classic fairy-tale means having princes and princesses as the main characters...in that case, we can go to the library and move the likes of Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs and Hansel and Gretel to another shelf.

The feeling of befuddlement resonates with me as well. Although The Snow Queen is a literary piece as opposed to a collected folk-tale, it's still got enough of the right fairy-tale elements to class as a fairy-tale. In all honesty, I might even class the likes of Pinocchio and Peter Pan as fairy-tales too. In all fairness, most fairy-tales as we know it are first and foremost pieces literary works. Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Perrault reworked folk legends and beliefs greatly before their stories were published. Even the Brothers Grimm did a bit of jiggling about with the tales they collected (the final version of Hansel and Gretel is pretty much a Kunstmärchen).

sorry. didn't mean to offend. i don't know the origins of that story. i just assumed it was a little more modern.

I picked up my copy of tweentythree in MGM a few days ago. High quality scan anybody?
