I think the last one was The Princess and the Frog which was released here two months after the US, Moana was also released two weeks after but that's not a huge gap. I actually managed to figure out why though, mainly because the best time to release a family film is during the holidays so Hanukkah, Pu-rim, Passover or the summer vacation.

The November release usually coincide with Hanukkah, there are years where Hanukkah comes later in December like in 2016 so they delayed Moana in two weeks, Frozen II was actually supposed to be delayed as well, but it was released on time, probably due to fans' demands

The Princess and the Frog came out in late December, which happened after Hanukkah, so they probably delayed it to late February to coincide with Pu-rim.

That's interesting. I guess something similar happened in my country as well. For example, Pixar movies used to be released in July or August instead of June like in the US. I suppose those were better months to release an animated movie here.

Thankfully, Spanish release dates are quite close to the domestic ones nowadays. Many times, films are even released on the same day as in the US here. In the past, sometimes we had to wait a lot to see them. I've done a bit of research because I didn't remember all the dates, and from Oliver & Company to Aladdin WDAS' films were released exactly one year later here. So, we were always one film behind back then. I'm glad I wasn't aware of that at the time; otherwise it would've been difficult to wait for so long knowing these films existed and there were people who had already seen them. And then, from The Lion King to Atlantis (except Fantasia 2000 and Dinosaur), they were released almost half a year later here; in November instead of June. Pixar films, on the other hand, were released four or five months after opening in the US here at first (February/March instead of November).

I remember the wait for Finding Nemo was particularly hard. It came out six months later in Spain. I was already aware of the domestic release dates then and they talked a lot about the film on the news and TV programs about cinema I used to watch when it was released in the US because it was such a big hit and topped The Lion King as the highest grossing animated film of all time. Thankfully, that was the last time we had to wait 6 months for a Disney film to be released. Though, the 2 and 3 month wait, respectively, for The Princess and the Frog and Tangled wasn't easy for me either.

It's a nice countdown and I agree The Firebird music was a great choice. I wonder, though, why they didn't use the "60th Motion Picture" logo that was revealed recently and recycled the 50th one they made for Tangled instead. I actually prefer the new one.

I checked now and I saw that The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin were released in June or July the following year, but the rest of the Renaissance film were released on the same day or even before the US release. Not sure why. Toy Story was released on March, Toy Story 2 was released on April.

The only good thing I can say about Mirabel's design is that I used to think Moana was fat but not any longer

I think she has the most potential for looks although I feel that way more in her hand-drawn books than in the final CGi product. Also I think that's in part because of her dress which is pretty and pretty clothes can make all the different regardless of whether or not you possess physical beauty yourself. In comparison to the REAL princesses of Disney, she is still very plain.

I feel like from her face and hair she reminds me of Nina from the deleted Kingdom in the Sun (or whatever that movie was called) who I also did not think was pretty enough to be the Disney representative for Latin America. Too chubby.

Moana wasn't fat and neither is Mirabel. The problem with Mirabel's design is that it's goofy, like something out of Meet the Robinsons. They went overboard.

I think Moana and Mirabel are cute. Certainly not ugly. Like I mentioned before Mirabel is the Disney female character that looks most like me. I think Disney princesses(and heroines) being stunning beauties is fine, but its nice to have princesses of all shapes and sizes.

Being thin and being beautiful aren't the same thing, neither are overweight and ugly the same thing although they can sometimes overlap. Moana has a very pretty design while also having a realistic body shape. Mirabel has an, imo, unappealing design while having a realistic body shape. But neither character is what I'd consider fat.

Is it just Mirabel's design that looks goofy? I keep reading that a lot on here. I don't think Mirabel's design is that goofy looking or all that different from the rest of the Encanto cast. And I don't think it looks any goofier than the designs from Hercules, Tarzan or 101 Dalmatians, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, or Emperor's New Groove. To me it just looks "Disney."

the only place I think Mirabel's design does look strange is in some of the 2d art on some of the merchandise. There her design looks really odd and different from the others.

The best comparison is Merida from Brave, I think. Both characters look alright in specific shots. For example, I think Mirabel looked okay in one shot a few pages back and in that poster (the one where she's holding the butterfly in front of the house with no other characters present).

On October 23rd, the Animation Is Film Festival is having an Encanto panel, so I wonder if news will be coming out afterwards.

I’m sure it’s a tiny part as an excuse to have him on the soundtrack. That character design is iffy though.

It has been announced he's indeed Isabela's love interest, as you guessed:

Judging by the video, his mother also seems to appear in the movie, right? I get the impression she wants her son to get married to Isabela, so they can be related to the wealthiest family in town. He seems genuinely in love with her, though. As for his design, doesn't he look a bit too much like Abuelo Pedro?

By the way, the Japanese trailer has been released. It doesn't have any new footage, but it's edited a bit differently and is a bit shorter.

I have heard that the Spanish dub will be made in Mexico and it will include only Colombian actors or actors who have Colombian ancestry. It will be used in every Spanish speaking country, including Spain, due to its Colombian setting.
