Why are all of you complaining over a art style in a calendar? I don't see Vanellope anywhere (I was hoping she would appear :( Maybe the 2020 ones since it was made before the WiR 2 stuff was released), so I highly doubt this is because of Wreck-It Ralph 2.

They are selling a calendar with the tradition art style:
https://www.amazon.com/Disney-Princess- ... RTY7S076X5

Even Frozen has a calendar with an art style:

https://www.amazon.com/Disney-Frozen-Wa ... 98NZ6JDSAE

I think this forum needs to learn to relax in general.

Because it is not only an art style for calendar, but various products and books?

Like what Mooky said, there has been worse art styles than the one in the calendar. At least it's mostly true to the characters' original designs

They're heavily stylized versions of the characters. They can't be "on-model" by definition.

In case anyone wants to buy the calendar in question, here it is.

You guys have no reason to complain about this in my opinion.
This is an "art style", like in a children“s book, (someone or some people spend days/months drawing these princesses) and all the princesses are in their original designs with right colors. (Look at Cinderella) :D
The princesses are drawn with respect.

I'd much rather this sort of art than the garish, brightly coloured glitter sparkle like we normally get ? Reminds me kind of the Little Golden Books artwork in a way.

What I loathe in the recent wave of Princess marketing are the sneering, nasty faces that most of them are pulling. Full on 'tood when it really isn't needed, nor does it suit any of them.

And my question would be: Why are you so worried what other people are doing or saying about, well, anything really??? You seem overly upset to see any so-called "negative" comment anywhere on the forum.

Well, I'm with everyone else here; I don't like that style, yet the Princesses are at least on model.

I'm just so tired of all of the negativity on this forum. Some reasons are understandable, some reasons like this, I personally find, are ridiculous. If you don't like something, that's fine. I'm also tired of being the only person that likes something. This forum isn't just fun anymore honestly.

I don't really see all the praise for Cinderella's colors here. Yes, they're more accurate than normal but her hair still isn't orange enough the way it used to be on old merchandise. And her dress is still too blue for my liking.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who detests the new clipart they've been getting. It's not just their faces but even their body language with their arms crossed, etc. And somehow their faces are even more off model than normal which I didn't think was possible.

the new calendar art...its alright ... there's some new Disney Store princess merch (like notebooks, book bags and school supplies) that are featuring a very similar stylized look(it might even be the same style as the calendar, I'm not sure.) There's also separate merch lines for Frozen and Moana (The Moana one is a super cute chibi style, I love it!) I dont mind stylization with the princesses, since there's been a ton of merch in the past featuring different stylized looks for them. Im used to it, I guess, as long as they still keep the original looks around in other merch. I agree the worst was that couple of years when they had them wearing these taaacky gold and jewel encrusted dresses to sell those sparkle/shimmer/glitter/whatever Mattel dolls. Gross!

I do also agree that this emerging crop of stylized Disney princess designs is probably in anticipation of the Wrecked Princesses.

I think the stylization is ok and fine for some merchandise. I think Cinderella's colors are almost correct I guess I just prefer even more silver. Her hair color looks right to me, though.

Honestly, I prefer those because I care more about the characters' actual faces and how closely they resemble their original design than the clothes and accessories Disney puts them in. For me, it's more important for the facial structure and anatomy of the characters to remain faithful to their movie counterparts than their clothing. Real people can change their clothes; their faces, not so much.

For example, I'll take this

and this any day

or this.

Fair enough, and I understand your point, but I don't think the last two pictures are comparable at all. I'm not even convinced it has anything to do with Wreck-It Ralph 2 because, for example, Cinderella looks nothing like that in that short trailer scene. I feel this new redesign, if it's even widespread, is true to the essence of the characters (it's hand-drawn, simplistic and harks back to the original designs -- Snow White even got her pale yellow dress and cape back!). To me, those gaudy clothes were more offensive and did more disservice to the characters than this, regardless of how more on-model their faces were. Of course, if I had my say, they would all go back to these versions with appropriate color corrections. But, as far as these redesigns go, I think it could have been much worse.

Agreed. Their poses and expressions are ridiculous. Ever since Hasbro took over the license and launched the "Dream Big, Princess" campaign we've been getting clipart of them full of sass and attitude to show how "empowered" and "badass" they are. It's not only out of character and unnatural to them, but they come off as mean and snooty. It creates the complete opposite of the intended effect.

I'm in agreement with this. I was never bothered by the jeweled dresses or gold dresses. Especially since even while Disney used these variants, they also continued to use the regular clipart. And frankly the characters still resembled themselves.

You should patent it before Disney does ;)

I know this is random but I forgot to say that, weeks before, Cinderella was not the only Disney doll sold at my grocery store for a moment. They had a Tinker Bell doll and an Ariel doll. The Tinker Bell doll is gone if I remember, so she must have been bought, but I know I saw the Ariel doll being bought. She wasn't in the store for that long before she got bought! I don't know how many Cinderella dolls there were before, but at least one sold and one is left now.

And I also forgot to say we have a bunch of Elena of Avalor dolls at my grocery store, but I don't know if any of them have sold.
