Because it's the one he looked at. We're talking about a restoration expert, after all.

That review was wonderful, especially -of course- the part about Bluray. But the sentence that stood out most, to me, was:
The fact is my TV doesn't fill my wall, nor do I feel it needs to.
Amen, brother, amen.

Big deal. My TV doesn't fill my wall, and the room's not massive, either. Seating distance is a different story.

They couldn't compare because they didn't receive both complete packages. All they received was the Blu-ray package that contains a copy on the DVD version of the film. They DID NOT get the entire 2-Disc DVD package. In order to review the entire DVD package the entire thing needs to be there. I know many of you already consider DVD dead and already wrote it off as if it no longer exists nor matters. I agree 100% with what the review said.
I understand that, but I was referring to the ending where he said he didn't care for Blu-Ray and really didn't want to have anything to do with it. It just sounds odd to say that when the main meat of the reviews on this site are critiqing the video/audio of each release. I mean, they say to upgrade to the Anniversary editions from the GC editions based on very small color changes that 99% of the public would never notice. If they are encouraging us to upgrade on such a small detail, I don't get how the site can just blow off Blu-Ray in the way they did. Blu-Ray has absoulte perfectly stunning video/audio.

Well I have to say, Luke did bring up some very important points in the review and about blu-ray. I've always been hesitant to upgrade to blu-ray do to pricing and what not. It has dropped a little, but not enough for me to go and buy a blu-ray player and an HD-TV.

Also, I would need a whole new desktop to add a blu-ray burner drive and that would mean for me to shell out more money. I also see no point in Blu-ray players if you do not have an HD-TV (Like me lol) I do plan to upgrade but not any time soon. I am happy with my TV, DVD, and yes VCR. I just don't see me buying a PS3 cause I never play games, so what is the point in wasting 400 bucks when it would just sit there.

Also, if Disney is pushing Blu-ray so much, why not bring out ALL the new releases like Mary Poppins, Lilo and Stitch, ect. on Blu-ray? That doesn't make sense to me. By the time Mary Poppins is out on Blu-ray it will have five re-re-releases when we are still waiting for BETTER films from Disney to be released in a Special Edition format.

someone from Blu Ray.com a HUGE DIsney Fan:
remember when I had every animated film on laserdisc that I could, and when DVD came out, I immediately was against it. DVD was a threat to my investements in the laserdic format. It didn't take long for tha antagonism to end, and I bought a DVD player in 1999 so I could scoop up the Anchor Bay Disney titles that were never made available on laserdisc (first DVD I ever bought was The Black Hole, and I've never looked back). But I remember being very anti-DVD for a short period.

I personally think many people are anti-Blu for the same reasons -- they have made sizable investments in DVD software and they mistakenly see Blu-Ray as a threat. It's that simple. Receivers, TVs, players -- all have to be replaced to fully appreciate what Blu-Ray offers, and you have to have an internet connection to boot for the BD Live stuff. For people like the owners of UlimtateDisney/DVD Dizzy.com, who have large DVD collections (many of which sent for free, but that's another story), its the threat that their films are obsolete -- the threat of change itself -- that cause these hostile reactions. Go look for the thread "Why is UltimateDisney Ant-Blu" on this forum and you'll see more regarding this issue. I spotted an anti-Blu bias at that site a long time ago, but with the attack posted today in their Pinocchio review (because Disney isn't sending DVD screeners, only Blu-Ray screeners), they've finally confirmed what some of us already knew several months ago.

well you they can't release too many blu rays together, as you say its pricey so they have to space them out.

I didnt think i would use a lot of my PS3, but im telling you, there is something adicrtive in having a hige tv screen in HD, and having a game in 16:9 HD, you cant stop. YOu can do a lot more with PS#, like playing data dvds, i find it to be the fastest and best data disc player, i donwload a lot of shows form the UK and then burn them on a data disc and watch on the tv - all tv shows in the uk are in 16:9 - unlike us here where only HD shows ar in 16:9 - so its amazing.

You cna use the PS# to store photos, home videos, chat rooms like youve never seen before in 3d and so much more , i was just like you saved my money until i could buy somethign good.

So when you get the chance - do it - trust me - if you can one day afford it - go for it, its just awesome

That reviewer simply used the term Disney Dust wrongly is all I'm pointing out  No need to get all defensive Kubrick.

I get defensive, because he's not just a reviewer. And because you use the same sarcastic smilies over and over. It gets annoying.

Not surprised this would come from Blu-ray .com.

Which is really annoying and not what the general audiences want.

And your comparison of the laserdics to dvd is different, as a dvd player doesn't play laserdiscs.
The situation can be compared to the regular CD and the super audio CD.
Yes, the quality is better, but not interesting for Joe average.

Wow, it's like my brain wrote the Pinocchio review while I was asleep.

Kudos to the unnamed author for pointing out exactly why Blu-Ray isn't exactly the third coming of the Home Video God.

Now excuse my while I go use my non-movie loving eyes to watch my worthless inferior-quality films.

Saying there isn't an anti-Blu bias on this site is outrageous, have you seen either the Blu-ray/DVD thread or Luke's review for Pinocchio? It's obviously here and that quote from that fourm is an excellent description as to why many would dislike any new format (whether they admit it or not).

Have you completely disregarded the overwhelming majority that the Blu-ray fanboys here make up? The minority is finally calling out the obnoxious blu-ray fans (I'm talking the obnoxious fans only). Luke's review was truthfully honest and hit the nail right on the head when referring to the Blu-Ray fanboys. He is correct about that. The fanboys have been obnoxious and have been called out on it numerous times by Goliath and others.

Oh, so just liking to enjoy our movies in the best quality available makes us fanboys? Plus, have you seen the number of people who post here who are NOT adopters of blu-ray? Not to mention the overwhelming amount of DVD-only reviews for films that are on blu-ray. They're only judging the site based on those who are the "staff". Luke's review was totally biased, and sounds completely lazy by the mere fact that he wants all his movies by a remote with no cool menu screens.

I, too, have seen Luke's review on the movie which then turned into a seemingly-legitimate anti-BluRay complaint. While I'm more or less neutral on the subject, there was something about that that, to me, was nothing short of a teeth gnasher. In the review, Luke said (and I quote):
Since we can reasonably assume that those buying Blu-ray are building up their collections faster than your typical DVD customer, I would estimate that at least 95% of the American public is perfectly content buying standard DVDs.

Those who have made the upgrade to Blu-ray, however, are an extremely vocal minority, online at least. I understand that to a point. They've invested in their high-tech toy and now they want other people to do the same, like they did for DVD (but not for niche laserdisc). Some of them have a strange way of expressing that desire, however. Such fanatics come across as some of the most unpleasant people you'll ever "meet", even by Internet standards where hostility is often second nature. It isn't enough for people to accept Blu-ray's existence, they have to renounce DVD and devote their life to high-definition.

I can only imagine the flavorful reaction that this ramble will receive among those types, who have already taken me to task for mentioning Blu-ray promotion tactics without unwavering appreciation. With virtual pitchforks, a ringleader with a history of electronic trash talk, and a plan to smite my differing opinion, here's what they will say: I must not really love movies, I shouldn't be a reviewer, I'm still clinging to VHS, and I can't afford Blu-ray in my pitiful, ignorant life. Actually now that I've already said it all, they might need to be more creative or even -- perish the thought -- understanding.
And that part was really what irritated me, that everyone MUST upgrade to BluRay or else. I mean, that is just plain inconsiderate! Do they not know that we're living in tough times? Or is it that they do know, but they're just being too selfish and bragging to admit that?

And what's up with all those commercials on the DVD acting like that teeny-bopper rendition of "When You Wish Upon a Star" is the main bonus on the DVDs and the other bonuses only receive a passing mention (if any at all)?

That was nice of ya lol. My brother bought a PS3, but he won't let us open it until he comes home from iraq in June lol. My mom has it locked away in her closet. :( I however want to get Pinicchio on DVD for now. Other friends of mine said the PS3 is really good to. 8)

Before I became a member, I have been reading the forum for some time. And I was already annoyed with all the BluRay-pushing going on. Nobody was calling the fanboys out for being so obnoxious about it. But I wasn't a member, so who was I to talk? Then I joined, and for a long time, I didn't say anything about the BluRay-pushing. Nobody did. I just let it slide. But then the thread "Is Disney done with DVD?" came along. All the BluRay fanboys jumped on it to declare the death of DVD, and that's when I spoke up first. Then others followed. The bottom line is, that the anti-BluRay posts are a *reaction* to overzealous BD-fans who have been beating us over the head about BluRay for so long.

I see where your coming from. I don't want to be constantly on the defense of a format from people who don't know enough about it to even be in a fight. I'm just here to talk about the movies I love, and that's how it should be. So what if someone says they're picking the movie up on blu-ray or DVD? It's the same film with most of the bonuses in common, so what's to complain about? The Pixar releases?

I checked one of the local Best Buys in town, but no luck. I didn't see any early copies of Pinocchio on Blu-ray, let alone DVD. :(

But I plan on getting it Tuesday, at the first chance I get. :D
