Mother Gothel looks like The Nanny? No, I don't think so, if only because I've watched The Nanny since I was five. Now I'd love to hear Fran Drescher voice her (or get any acting work). But I'm sure Ms. Murphy will do a delightful job.
I also wanted to add that that video reminded me a song Mandy Moore sang on the DTV "Tarzan and Jane". She said she loved Disney movies and she was so happy to be in one, but even then I remember thinking "But this isn't a real Disney movie...". I'm glad she's got her chance to shine now.
Gosh, I can't wait for this thing!

Wow, didn't think they would be allowed to say the word "Rapunzel" in the publicity.
I also wish they would quit playing that hideous pop song in the background. Seriously, I want to hear Alan Menken's songs! Still really looking forward to this, though. The animation looks stunning.

Do you guys think Rapunzel's intention is to come back to the tower when she leaves ?? I mean, after all, she has affection for mother Gothel...
Seeing that video, when Mandy Moore is saying ''How did you find me ?'' - do you think she is talking to Flynn or Gothel ??

You'd think we would hear parts of songs... I mean Princess and the Frog I thought had at least in the background in videos music of the movie.
I liked alot of the new clips except one scene of Rapunzel, I disliked how Rapunzel looked

In fact she kind of scares me... Now is that just me or do others feel the same?

My guess is she plans on returning to the tower and then would sneak out probably every year.
And as to your question she is definitely talking to Flynn

Observe the frying pan.

On that scene Rapunzel is talking to Flynn (She have the frying pan in her hands).
About if Rapunzel will go back to the tower (I'll write it in spoiler)
I think Gothel goes out looking for Rapunzel when she runs away with Flynn. We saw in some concepts a few images of Gothel talking to Rapunzel in a forrest at night, and other one showing Gothel with a dagger, and other one with Rapunzel (with her hair cutted) crying over Flynn's body. Finally we saw another one with 4 or 5 sketches of Gothel with Rapunzel's hair in her hand in a "getting old process". Well, I think Gothel goes out to take her "daughter" back and kills Flynn as a revenge. After that, Rapunzel cut her long hair and Gothel becomes an old woman, showing then her real body and age.
I could keep going with my thoughs about the story but I don't want to spoil myself xDD

Am I the only one kind of let down by Gothel's design? A part of me expected me an austere, uptight character--Bree Van de Kamp style--with her hair up in a bun. Instead, it seems like we got a white trash, Susan Sarandon fill-in (imo, a black-haired version of Medusa from
The Rescuers). Totally different approach from what I expected. Can't really see a character like this singing, "Mommy Knows Best." Donna Murphy better be pretty fantastic.
Ah well. There's still Menken.
Anyway, the other shots that have been posted look great. It kind of redeems the big eye choice for Rapunzel (which has looked ugly in a lot of other shots). And there's definitely a pastel glow to them, which kind of redeems the choice of 3D a little bit to me. So, now, it's less of, "This might be bad because it should've been 2D" and more of, "This might just be bad." But we'll see in November. I've actually tried not to spoil myself beyond the character designs/art, the same way I was with
TP&TF, so I can enjoy it depending on how I feel when I first watch it.

She's talking to Flynn. This was in the scene they showed at Comic Con

Do you think they have reduced the size of her eyes ??
If you compare the scene where she is holding the frying pan seen in this featurette next to the shot in the trailer. Even her hair is different... Could someone post a comparison ? I don't know how to post pictures...

I think it is pretty obvious that she's talking to Flynn not just because of the fact that she's holding a frying pan but considering the context of the original story how she's been raised by Mother Gothel and she's pretty much the only other person she's familiar with, it would make sense.

Don't worry. She
is fantastic, and she sings it very much in the character you see there.
(PS - I originally said "Mommy Knows Best" but it could also be "Mother Knows Best." I suck at remembering names and titles. But it's definitely one or the other.)
Tangled

I repeat, did you hEear the awkward pause and the blank "I can't believe I just said that I wanna laugh or cry" looks on their faces when they said the word "Tangled"?!
Mother Gothel looks great. Her dress evokes an older time as she really is much older, it's great colors, and her hair should be long and lovely, not up in a tight bun where it's less sexy. She's a character who wants to look beautiful and sexy. The only thing I don't like is the curls, but she probably doesn't have the best sense of beauty. Neither did the voice inside Glen's head that decided Rapunzel should have such a huge head and even huger eyes...

Have you seen Snow White? Where the Queen wants to be the Fairest of All, and yet completely covers herself up?
I don't know, the idea I had of Gothel wasn't someone "sexy" (although that is an aspect to her). I imagined she would be more of an overly strict maternal figure.

From the original tale and the illustrations I'd seen, I imagined that Gothel (or quite simply the Witch, since I didn't know she had a name

) would be an oldish woman (around sixty), tall and with sharp facial features like Lady Tremaine, and be clad in a medieval/renaissance costume similar to that of Maleficent.
I'm not sure if I've posted this before, but I think that Gothel may have been inspired in part by Michelle Pfeifer in the film
Stardust (if you haven't seen it already, do so, as it's one of the best yet most underrated fantasy films in recent years). In that movie, she played a seductive witch who was trying to regain her youth. A few years ago (around 2007, the year when
Stardust came out), somebody noticed a picture of Michelle Pfeifer in a shot of Glen Keane's office that had appeared online, and the links between Gothel and Pfeifer's character make me think that Keane got the inspiration for the exact look and background of Gothel from
Stardust.

No, I just noticed them pausing the way someone normally would in between lines like that.
What I did notice though, was that Rapunzel and Flynn really do look similar to Mandy Moore and Zac Levi when they speak. It's completely in their expressions, which I absolutely love (I love seeing how the animators can capture the feeling an actor brings to the character). I can't wait to see Gothel in motion and Donna Murphy doing some voice work
Also, I hope this isn't the video that's gonna' be on facebook on the 9th and we get something new
