Wow, that Playbill is beautiful. I can't wait to have one in my collection. I'm hoping to go to New York for Spring Break next year, and if I do, I'll be seeing The Little Mermaid for sure. I hope it does well on Broadway, I think it should.

I'm disappointed in his look. And Sebastian's too. The Sebastian costume makes the wearer look like he's playing a rogue during the Great Depression, who hitches rides on trains. Shouldn't he have a Jamacian flavor costume? He needs a pair of crab claw oven mitts too.
For the costume of Flounder, they could have made a front half and back half of Flounder, using light weight materials, and the kid wears them using shoulder straps. On his head, he could wear a headband with a large paper fan (the crimped kind) glued on it, painted in alternate blue and dark blue.

At least I can just sit and enjoy the talented cast and Alan Menken's wonderful music without having to worry about costumes and set design... whatever my thoughts on the show, I will be buying this album ASAP.

Glad to hear the opening night went well, this show and cast deserve success.
Now I have to save up to see it again! Maybe in a few years...
Can't believe the OCR isn't until Feb 08! I was hoping for Christmas!

I'm so happy about this review!
Seeing Sierra get so much positive feedback is really helping me deal with my fear of graduating at my university. She's proof that people from my university can make it out there and be successful!
Sierra and Jodi Benson really keep my head up sometimes.

I cannot explain how wonderful it was to see the videos of the show!
It looks stunning; the whole style of the show fits in perfectly with the movie.
Ariel is just as I imagined her, and more. She HAS to get a Tony for this!

These aren't comlpete spoilers, they are from the early previews in Denver, so a lot has changed since these were tapped.

The videos (though they are poor in quality) look pretty good. I'm really excited for Mermaid, I hope it does well.

OK - it's a while since I've posted on this thread, but i have been checking in for news.
I watched the videos and must say, I was impressed by what I saw. I think Sierra is INCREDIBLE and so is Sherie. To me though, there's still something missing. It's obviously a great show, but it just didn't stand out. I just don't think the overall show works. I know a lot has changed since those videos were filmed, so this opinion is based solely on those videos, word of mouth, publicity shots and amateur reviews:
I honestly don't like the direction. I'm warming to the costumes reasonably well and the performances are obviously outstanding - I've become quite addicted to the video of Sherie's "poor unfortunate souls" - but at the end of the day, it doesn't create magic. There needs to be more effort put into staging. Ariel's treasure cavern seems to be just a large rock with a hole in it where she sits. I think it works, but it needs more around it. They need the entire stage filled with her "collection". When she sings "part of your world" she should be zooming around the stage looking at the objects, fascinated by them, but still reaching to the surface for more. The reprise doesn't work for me either - she just stands there and sings - no big dramatic "waves on the rocks" ending to it - she just glides off as the sets for the next scene glide on.
I have warmed to the costumes. I hated the costume Ursula has for "i want the good times back" - it just didn't look octopus-like or threatening, it looked too stringy and nothing like tentacles. The one she wore for "poor unfortunate souls" had a sort of webbed net effect that joined them, giving a better overall effect of an octopus. The wig and make up was great though.
It just needs more work and I know it's had some, and I can't wait to see improvements, but from what I've seen so far it just doesn't, to me at least, have that feeling of a classic film taking on a new life like Beauty and the Beast did.

Well, after finally getting to view “Poor Unfortunate Souls” live (I have dial-up), I have to say I’m not nearly as excited to see this show as I once was. To me (and I know most will disagree, so these are just my own feelings), Ursula has been completely ruined. Despite how great a voice Sherie has, she is not Ursula, which is proven by her butchering of “Souls.” And, besides Sherie’s part in the matter, Ursula’s costume is horrible; not allowing her the capability to move around the set was the biggest mistake they made. Then there’re the narrative changes, with Ursula gaining a giant conch shell (which serves litte to no purpose except to hinder the climax) and the eliminating of Vanessa, that aren't working for me at all. Flotsam and Jetsam are excellent in spite of their costumes, but they can’t come close to fulfilling Ursula’s role.
Sierra’s still a great Ariel, and I still enjoy the new songs quite a bit, but I don’t really have any desire to see this show anymore. I understand that there has to be some transition from film to stage, but this show fails on too many levels for me--mainly with Ursula, the prime reason TLM is my favorite film even over Ariel. I will get the cast recording though, no doubt.

Yeah but keep in mind that these vids are from the Denver preview. For all we know they could have changed a lot about these scenes.
