Is it me or are those a lot of VFX studios working on the film? The movie doesn't look that VFX-heavy so I'm suprised by the amount of CG work that was put into it. I suppose that's why the budget ballooned to $300 million.
Mark Byers offered up on-set effects, while Weta Workshop delivered props and armor to evoke the story's historical time and place. Visual effects were achieved by Image Engine, Crafty Apes, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Day for Nite and Framestore.

The $300 million budget has already been proven to be false. Both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety have recently revealed the budget is actually $200 million, which makes a lot more sense. Variety was also the publication that set the record straight about the real budget for "Cats" after rumours spread that that movie's budget was out of control.

Matthew Wilder has confirmed on
Instagram that Liu Yifei has recorded a new rendition of "Reflection" in both English and Mandarin. Here's the
video announcement by Liu herself in Mandarin. Matthew has also provided a
sample of what the instrumental version of "Reflection" will sound in the film. It's a beautiful choral arrangement.

So there's going to be two versions of "Reflection" playing over the end credits...? That's so dumb. They should have one version in the film, even if it just plays in the background.

^The first one is clearly based on this poster for the original film:
I like it, especially the colors, but the poses look more natural in the original in my opinion. The other new poster is not bad, but perhaps a bit too simple.

I agree, it's really beautiful.

Yes, a beautiful re-creation of the original poster. Another example of them making the films look like they're the same in the advertising and promotion...

I agree. The placement of the horse's face in particular looks unnatural and photoshopped. It doesn't look like it's the same horse that Mulan's riding.

I'm glad the film is tracking so high stateside. It's a testament to the popularity of the original. Besides, the remake's going to need all the help it can get with the overseas box office impaired.

I might not watch this in theaters. It depends on what the situation would be with the virus in the upcoming weeks, but seems like it's better to not take any chances anymore.

I wish Disney would just pull a James Bond and push back its release. I'd hate to see it hindered by the Coronavirus mess.

Exactly, and Mulan seems to be posing there.

Here's the

Spanish version has been released as well. You can read more about Aguilera's involvement with the soundtrack in the

I love it! It doesn’t compare to “Reflection” of course, but I never expected that would happen.

It's not bad, I'm glad they've given her a new song for the movie like they did with Celine Dion for
Beauty and the Beast.
By the way, according to
Variety, Christina Aguilera has also recorded a new version of "Reflection". Here are more details about both of her songs:
“Loyal Brave True” was written by Jamie Hartman, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rosi Golan and Billy Crabtree; Hartman produces. Gregson-Williams, who also wrote the new movie’s instrumental score, is the producer of “Reflection (2020).” The director of the new “Mulan,” Niki Caro, has directed music videos for both songs that Disney says will be out later in March. Gregson-Williams’ score is said to incorporates instrumental elements from both Aguilera tunes.

I think it's just OK. Christina's strong vocals elevate the material, but as a composition it doesn't say much. The lyrics are not great either.
I'm not surprised Disney screwed over Matthew Wilder and didn't let him write the new song. If they had no problem doing dirty Alan Menken and Elton John, they sure wouldn't care about a smaller fry like Wilder. I'm sure if they had let him, he would have written something better. It's such a shame. They wouldn't even let him have this after turning Mulan into a non-musical.

I'm interested to hear how "Reflection" sounds coming from her in the present. Her range was probably stronger when she was younger, but her tone has matured and sounds so much richer now. My pick would her giving us a sort of a stripped down version, since the original is perfection the way it is, imo.
I've honestly never heard a take on the song by anyone else than I loved as much as the original, and there have been lots of them thanks to those singing contest shows. Even versions by people I love like Jordin Sparks and Ashley Brown just don't compare; which is weird because I would've thought their higher voices would've sounded better on the bridge ("that burns to know the reason whyyyyy"). Christina just gives me the feels. I really like Salonga inside the film, too, btw, and the in-film scene has the visuals at the end which are iconic.
