Tangled re-release?

Sorry to start a new topic, I couldn't find a thread on this already, but feel free to move to another thread if possible.
I just stumbled upon this movie in January, having pretty much completely over looked it until then. I absolutely loved it - and am now kicking myself I didn't get to see it on the big screen. Especially a movie like this, that has a lot of funny and catchy dialog, emotion, great characters, music and animation. It seems like a large audience would really get into it. I'm also thinking that now that the movie has been out a while, it's got kind of a following, and there might be more people like me who have stumbled upon it afterwards. Unfortunately though, it seems that since the early 90's when everything became available on VHS then DVD now bluray, re-releases are becoming rare except for classic movie conversions like 2d-3d, or regular format to IMAX (ex. Jurassic Park, Star Wars, etc)
What do you think, do I have any hope to see Tangled in an IMAX theater in 3D, and with a sold out crowd?
Any of you out there see it on a the big screen with a large audience and in 3D, how does it compare with home viewing?

Maybe this can be merged?
I think it really depends on where you're located. It seems many countries outside of the US are still following through with theatrical re-releases. However, after some less than satisfactory numbers from the US Beauty and the Beast re-release, it looks like they may stop in the states. The Little Mermaid was originally going to have a re-release for its Diamond edition but it's most likely (or definitely?) been canceled.
Who knows about the future... Are you thinking about a decade or two from now, or a few years? I think Disney would have to figure out if Tangled is something they want to "vault" and THEN decide whether or not it would warrant a second theatrical release once an anniversary comes up. I don't know, just my thoughts.
TL;DR - I wouldn't get your hopes up. Buy a big TV.

Merged.

I would say no. It would be too costly to market and the return on another theatrical release of a 'new' Disney film would not justify it.
As the other poster said, buy a big TV. Sometimes it may show up in an independent theatre, but who would go to the theatre to see a movie that everyone already has on DVD?

Actually I found this hugely "tangled" thread already, and didn't think it should be stuffed in with this one, but that's fine.
Patrick wrote:The Little Mermaid was originally going to have a re-release for its Diamond edition but it's most likely (or definitely?) been canceled.
Yeah I heard about a potential TLM re-release, but haven't heard much on it for a while - good point - that definitely doesn't make a good case for a Tangled re-release.
Patrick wrote:Are you thinking about a decade or two from now, or a few years?
I'm thinking more like a decade - a couple years would be nice, but I think there's more (if any) potential for a decade+ re-release. Maybe by then they can convert to the new "IMAX 5D super virtual format" and re-release.
Patrick wrote:Buy a big TV.

Actually I have a pretty big one, which I love, but I was hoping to see it with an audience and in 3D, sigh....
GreatGreg wrote:who would go to the theatre to see a movie that everyone already has on DVD?
This is sad but true, but every once in a while one comes a long I really wish I had seen in the theater.
Maybe a
well made sequel is a better hope.

You guys are in for a treat. I found a never-before-heard demo of Alan Menken singing an early version of "When Will My Life Begin" called "What More Could I Ever Need". This demo was part of a three-hour interview Menken recently gave to
WPKN radio. Menken had sung this version of the song live at the
Destination D event last year.
You can listen to the demo
here.

Wow wow wow wow thank you so much for finding and posting this !!!!
It is fascinating to see how the structure and melody are there and in place, but the whole theme of the song flipped to what we have in the film.
Brilliant, thank you again for posting !! (This should have been on the Blu ray !)

Holy cow!

This was SO MUCH better than When Will My Life Begin? How did they change it?! What More Do I Need was so adorable and more productive. I was grinning the whole time. Thanks for the find!

Thanks for the song. It's really cute and it's pretty funny just how content Rapunzel about her situation.
If I remember correctly, they changed the lyrics because if Rapunzel was so satisfied, why would she escape the tower? There's that bit about wishing on "stars", but other than that, this song doesn't give enough motivation on her part. At least in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing!
It's easy to see why it was changed. And the change was for the better.

Wow, thanks! Nice find, thanks for sharing! I always thought this might have been a struggle for the film makers. It's a delicate balance of how does she come across as content and happy in this tower, yet, desire to get out of it. Great to hear this alternate version, really thanks!

This isn't exactly Tangled related, but I just love the poster the D23 expo is using. Even if Flynn does look flamboyant.

Yes, very much love this....glad Disney is using the two of them together and not just tagging Rapunzel into being pink and sparkly.
I know there is likely to be zilch news on this ...... but is there any more of a sign from anywhere that a Tangled sequel may take place ? I have been googling and keeping an eye out, but nothing new as of yet. I know Mandy is still very involved with Rapunzel and the Princess line, and the directors are doing their own projects, but could this still happen in the future ?

Looks like we're getting more TANGLED things in the future!
From
http://broadwayworld.com/article/Exclus ... 0715-page2
BDWAYWORLD.COM: Can you say whether they're related to Disney?
Alan Menken: Neither of them are Disney-oriented or at Disney. Not that I have any problem being Disney oriented. [Laughs.] And we are actually doing some things with TANGLED, a spin-off kind of thing for stage and film. But again, that's in its very early phases.
BDWAYWORLD.COM: Would this be TANGLED 2 or something else?
ALAN M: Possible projects involving a spin-off from TANGLED. I wish I could give you more. I don't want to get in trouble.

A spin off .... Hmmm ..... Could that be another short? But he said its connected to stage as well....intriguing !!
But darn it ... I want a straight up sequel! I'm selfish like that.
Nice to see Alan is involved in whatever it is though. Would that be a first for him, working on a sequel/spinoff ??
