I think the shorter theatrical release might be something like a new Disney Vault. 3D technology really isn't into the home yet and 3D Blu-Ray specs have just been finalised so Disney could do something like

"Alice in Wonderland in 3D in theatres for a limited time only! Experience it while you still can! Don't be late!"

And there are other 3D movies competing for the format, but 3D in the home is not expected to have releases until later in the year. In fact, the HD phsychic Swanni says that once again, it'll not sell this year.

There are quite a few other 3D movies that are comming to theatres this year in fact exactly one month after alice opens, Clash of the titans presented in 3D opens, and that same weekend is How to Train your Drago 3D. there just are not enough screens equiped Digital 3D projectors and in real d's case silver screens to handle the sudden onset of 3D films that are comming.

dont forget this summer we will see ToyStory 3D,Piranaha 3D,Iron Man 2(a decision on 3d conversion will be made in the next few weeks) latter this year is Tron Legacy and Harry potter 7 part 1 and the list goes on and on.

As for the new featurette, I'm really pleased with all the new footage it contains. It looks like Disney was listening to all the complaints over the brevity of the previous three and all the recycled footage in them. I noticed a few interesting changes in this:

1. The shot of the Bandersnatch roaring has a brighter and clearer atmosphere than the one found in previous trailers and TV spots.

2. The shot of the Hatter smiling in the White Queen's garden has been given different color timing and a tweaked background compared to the one in the final trailer.

3. The shot of the Hatter picking up his hat from the ground has been radically changed from what was shown in the teaser. There, he picked it off what looked like a patch of grass. In the featurette, he picks it up off of fiery battle ruins. His hat is even covered in smoking embers. I'm wondering if this is from the flashback of the Jabberwock's first attack before Alice's return. None of the shots from the final battle have this sort of look, and there's already a different shot of the Hatter putting on his hat after the battle elsewhere in the featurette.

4. That last CG graphic where we zoom into the teapot might be from the opening credits. Burton almost always starts with opening credits, and I expected him to do something with Alice like he did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It looks too ornate and detailed to have been created for promos. The Alice's Theme track also signifies lively credits before we meet young Alice.

Speaking of Alice's Theme, samples of Danny Elfman's score are now available. I absolutely adore it so far. It's more epic and boisterous than I expected, but that's a good thing. It'll help make the film feel grander and more energetic. I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing. On an odd note, does Alice's Theme remind anyone else of Watchmen?

Awesome! I'm a fan of Danny Elfman's music and he always seems to be at the top of his game when working with Burton. This sounds especially fantastic.

That Hot Topic looks really cool! I only ever been to our local one, and it's tiny.

UK cinema chains Odeon, Vue and Cineworld are planning to boycott Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland due to its truncated theatrical run.

The March 5 UK release of the 3D film is in jeopardy because the leading exhibitors require a guaranteed four-month theatrical run to book a film. Disney announced earlier this week that the gap between the cinema and home release will be cut from the standard 17 weeks to 12.

Disney US distribution chiefs Bob Chapek and Chuck Viane are flying into the UK to discuss plans for Alice's release. According to The Guardian, the 12-week deal is said to be a "take it or leave it" offer.

"We feel that it's important for us to maintain a healthy business on the exhibition side and a healthy business on the home video side... We remain committed to theatrical windows, with the need for exceptions to accommodate a shortened time-frame on a case-by-case basis, such as with Disney's Alice in Wonderland," explained Chapek.

Alice In Wonderland, which stars Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter, was filmed predominantly in the UK by Burton.

The royal world premiere will go ahead as planned in London on February 25.

Already some of the promotional material has been taken down from my local cinema.

Frankly I think its totally illogical. The Princess and the Frog only opened here at the start of the month and the R1 DVD (which most people will be able to import and play on their multi-region DVD players - and probably for cheaper than the UK DVD price too) is out in about 4 weeks. A much shorter "window", but none of them refused to show The Princess and the Frog. I'd rather the cinemas boycott that - because if they did they may actually get studios to change their mind about the practicalities of staggered worldwide release windows.

Is the Alice DVD/Blu-ray release coming out at the same time as it is in the US?

I would imagine so - its a UK premiere, so there's no reason to hold back to protect a local theatrical release window.

Eek. I think that Disney shouldn't be doing the truncated release thing, but equally, I would like to see this film on the big screen (and in 3D if at all possible). I honestly believe that boycotting the thing is just a bit immature at the end of the day, as it's a matter of greed; there are still going to be a lot of people who will go and see this film no matter how large or how small the release window is.

Still, it's very exciting, and it's interesting how much of Alice's dialogue differs from the first draft. I'm assuming additional promos are coming for the other characters.

A bit of news, apparently distribution companies all over Europe have decided not to release the movie at all. There has just been a press release saying that the Dutch distributors won't be releasing it in theaters. In that release it also said that some of the major European and American distributors have boycotted the movie. I think Disney needs to rethink their current strategy.

EDIT: I just checked Pathe.nl (the major branch), and it doesn't show up on the site. This isn't good.

If only cinema's could make a statement against a film with the title "Tangled"!!! LOL

There's a new Movie Surfers video about the Red and White Queens (it's the first video that automatically plays).

It's got more great footage, including a quick peek at what Wonderland/Underland was like before the Red Queen completely took over.

Hopefully the Movie Surfer's YouTube channel will post this soon so we can see this in HD.
