The Little Mermaid on Broadway

New Little Mermaid Broadway Costumes Video!

I've decided I don't like Ariel's skirt now. I think they should either have her legs be black or some undersea camouflage that is hard to see against everything else around her, or they do some more fin-like frills that just cover up her legs and look like long flowing extra finnage. We really need to think that the tail on her butt is the only tail-like thing on her.

Flounder's costume is almost as bad as everyone said it was, but at least I can see some attempts at fishy ornamentation. Still, it really is baggy T-shirts and baggy shorts.

Can Ursula's tentacles move on their own, or are Flotsam and Jetsam holding all of them up?

I kinda like the skirt solution although there might have been a better one.
The Flounder costume IS bad, awful, looks worse than a school-production run out of money.

But the pink dress that Ariel wears is lovely. It's kind of a ballet tutu style and it's just so adorable.

Wow! Thanks Disney Duster! I really really love the tail situation. I think it's a nice way of getting around the whole tail situation.

Everything is so elaborate, stunning and beautiful .. ... .. so what the heck were they trying to do with Flounder? A yellow T shirt with blue dots .. .. great ... .. :?

Ooh, video! It took me a while to find the video on the page in the first place, and on top of that it acts kinda funny.

Eric looks nicer to me now. Hey, I even warmed up to Ursula's pokey tentacles!

I'm sure the legs portion of the dress looks a lot better with the stage backgrounds and lighting (in that one promo picture, the lighting and the little wave things in front distracted the eye somewhat from her legs). Without some form of distraction, it's kind of a sore thumb. Because it's the same color and texture as the tail, it really looks like a stump sticking out of the tail. There's even a little trim around where the tail sprouts out to draw more attention to it as something sticking out of her instead of something we're supposed to see as part of her. It really should at least have some different quality to it so we associate it with something else other than some weird stumplike extension of her tail. I realize these costumes are more symbolism than special effects, but an eyesore is still an eyesore.

You know, the top part of the skirt could be the same material, and it could be cut so we could see a curve going from her torso and leading into the tail. Of course we know her legs are there and we still would see something, but, with our eyes leading to her tail, we'd think of it as something else.

I agree that Flounder's look is one big brain fart. They could have at least put him in a little parka to make him look cuddly.

Would anyone else LOVE to hear Jodi Benson sing "If Only" and Ariel's other new songs from the musical? :P

I love all of these new pictures. The show if developing its own sense of style with the sets, and I think it works perfectly within the context of The Little Mermaid movie.

And plus, the tail works for me! It looks fantastic when combined with sets etc.

Id love Jodi to sing the songs! DO you think she will go to the premiere?

Thanks for the video Disney Duster. I think the costumes look really great. I hope this show is a success like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. I'm looking into going to New York over spring break to see a friend of mine, and hopefully this show as well. :)

there is a new advertisement scheme for new york, I think I see a mermaid musical reference, in the lower left hand corner, is ladies in mermaid costumes like the show, and one has red hair, one is even sporting the strings that were to be attatched from tail to hand:

typically for a show that is just opening you have to order tickets WAY in advance. Especially since you are going 3 days after opening night to a highly anticipated show. I doubt that you can even buy tickets online anymore for that date. What you can do is go to the box office a few hours before doors open and get in line for canceled ticket holders. The box office will know what you're talking about if they are offering that. You'll have to stand in a line forever but you might be able to get it that way. That's how I got to see RENT while i was in NYC. I had to wait in a line for more than an hour and there were 8 people in front of me. I almost didn't make it in but last minute someone canceled their ticket and I got 8th row seating. It was expensive because the tickets were the same price, but it was well worth it.
