So as not to entirely derail the topic with my banter, here is the Cinderella + bonus pillowcase set exclusive to Big W.



They did the same with the Lion King last year, and the pillowcase has a thread count of about 16, but the box looks nice.

I usually don´t care for the art of the Blu Ray... but come on...

If you´re going to use just a blu color with the title of the movie:

At least have the decency of putting it in the middle of the disc!

I can only imagine the hostility when US blu's stop having slipcovers.

Disney Home Entertainment really just does whatever the heck they feel like doing. Logic is gone.

It's weird, I generally get my Disney blu-rays from Amazon, as I like the slips that come with the US editions, and the titles on the plain blue discs are always on the left. I picked up the Australian edition of Great Mouse Detective and Pete's Dragon last night (they were $15.98 each, the downside is they don't come with the DVD [which I don't use anyway] or a slip) and strangely the titles are large, and in the centre at the top of the disc. There doesn't seem to be any kind of consistency anymore in design of anything between different regions.

On the transfer sides of things, I found TGMD a lot like other Disney movies of this tier - it could have been cleaned up a bit more, but it is still a very bright, crisp, very pretty picture. Pete's Dragon looks marvellous, it was my first time watching it and I have to say the film itself wasn't the best, but the picture quality was quite spectacular.

Downsides - the special features on both discs are really quite lacking, and the menus are also disappointing. Like with 101 Dalmatians, they are just still images with the menu selections appearing on the left. For TGMD it's a static frame from the film itself, for Pete's Dragon they've just slapped the cover art next to the selections.

Well seeing as how recent releases here have been cheap beyond human comprehension, I thought for sure they'd stop making disc art.

Cinderella and One Hundred and One Dalmatians had covers that were designed for thin cases but were slapped onto thick cases. It's absolutely pathetic...

Either way, the releases are bare bones, but I got them purely because I hate the 2-movie collection concept and want these releases separate. From what I could tell, the picture quality is excellent. Down under looks phenomenal.

I'm surprised Down Under is getting so much praise in PQ considering it's not even digitally sourced for the Blu-ray transfer.

Because the Blu-ray doesn't need to be digitally sourced to look great.

Hmmmm, I really don't like the single packaged BD art, but I dislike the combo too. Probably just my lease favourite BD release in general.

I can´t believe the lack of extras...

1. These are animated movies. That means, each took their well amount of time to produce so there HAS to be lots of info regarding them.

2. This is DISNEY we´re talking about. They keep and protect every last thing that was done under the production of each film.

3. Because it IS Disney in a big or minor way each film had to contribute something either to history or the company itself: the first animated movie, first time animals were done realistcally, longest animated film, shortest animated film, a return to fairy tales, the last one Walt produced, the first without Walt, the one that intrroduced Cinemascope, the one that introduced the Xerox process, the one were the Nine Old Men last worked on....

You see?


So, how it is possible that none of these releases don´t include a making off?

Worse yet, it hurts when a movie alreay HAD extras that could very well be ported (Tarzan) and for no reason they don´t even include them.

...I´m afraid the same is going to happen with Atlantis.

What BDs are set to be released during the rest of 2012 in the US and when? I know there have been date changes and such I didn't want to miss any. Also, is there any word on "Brother Bear"? That is still slated for a Fall 2012 release but no actual date to my knowledge has been announced.

yeah, but there's no rhyme or reason to it. if the film has digital source files, they should be used

To be fair, we don't know what happened with the digital files and what reason Disney had, to use actual film as source material for the HD master. It's not easier or cheaper for them, so there HAS to be a reason, why they didn't use the CAPS-files.
