Hhm, I wouldn't be so pessimistic. As one of the other panellists commented, he seemed to carefully tiptoe around the question. Probably so as to not get into trouble for revealing anything and we all know Disney is in super-secret mode right now.

I wouldn't be so optimistic. There isn't any reason to be where it concerns new Disney.

I'd rather be optimistic than pessimistic or (even worse) running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Moping doesn't do any good, in my opinion.

People are already crying that this film will be racist for its setting.

Its Disney they will find anything to complain about.

I don't even know but some people find the strangest things to complain about "oh it's a film about the Polinesia it's gonna be racist" "oh the film's directed by white guys it's gonna be racist" "oh it's based on the Enchanted Tiki Room which is very racist"...Etc etc

It appears Alan Menken is not involved with Moana. Mark Mancina will be composing the score. It's one disappointment after the other with this film.

Mark has completed the score for Planes, and will score Planes 2 for release next summer! He is also working with John Lasseter on a Disney feature animation called Moana with John Musker and Ron Clements.

I thought he composed a really good score for Tarzan (you know, when it wasn't overwhelmed by the Phil Collins songs).

Anyhoo, I don't see why you're upset that Alan isn't on board. Didn't he quit at Disney sometime after Tangled?

I think Alan Menken made a great run on Disney, so I don't think he's needed anytime soon. But is it going to be a musical?

I consider one just as delusional as the other, to be honest. But I don’t consider being realistic about where Disney is “moping” either. But, then, I’m not a walking advert for Disney, so I have no reason to care about being positive for their sake.

It is sad Menken looks to be gone for good, but even more so because we have to rely on Lasseter’s awful taste in music for Disney’s soundtracks from now on. Less and less to look forward to.

if this cant be a hybrid film why not use the process for opening or closing "bookends" or maybe a musical number or dream sequence ala Almost There? That would be a great way of testing out the technique on audiences.

Except ttesting was the whole purpose of Paperman

as a lover of all things tribal and native, im super excited about this. mark mancina seems the perfect choice given his resume. i really hope its in 2d so they get to implement native art into the animation.

i wonder if this is an adaptation of 'the boy who was afraid @ call it courage'?

I know but wouldnt hurt to give it some more exposure in small doses. Also i really cant see a full lenght film being greenlit with this current hybrid technique. Not while it looks like it does in Paperman. I think to the"suits" Paperman still looks too 2d.

Alan Menken is not a part of this project? That's really a big disappointment. Disney needs to use him more while he is still active as a composer, it's not like he is gonna stay around forever.

I thought it was made clear that Alan quit sometime after Tangled was finished?

The perfect choice? How do you figure? I find most of his film work quite underwhelming.

I don't know where you got an idea like that. Menken didn't quit Disney. He's still working for Disney on several stage projects. Disney has simply not offered him another film project to work on. Menken repeatedly said that he loves working on Disney films.
