and arriving later that week from amazon.com

Wizard of Oz Blu Ray amazon exclusive with swag

and on Ebay new and Sealed Mickeys Christmas Carol aka Walt Disney Animation Collection volume 7 for only $12.50 including shipping

and also recently from Ebay New and Sealed Winnie the Pooh Seasons of Giving SE with stocking for only $10.50 including shipping

and also from ebay Year One theatrical edition - a Birthday gift for my dad - used $8.50

and Yu-gi-oh GX: Rise of the Sacred Beasts volume 2 dvd for about $11 via ebay

and then of Course I got the Snow White Blu Ray on October 6th with the Blu ray casing despite the horrible art of Dopey thinking the hag as an attraction as if she is Paris Hlton rather than an evil version of Lady Ga Ga

and this week...nothing....but next week I got ordered on amazon Transformers 2 Blu ray and Tinkerbell Blu ray the following week...I would get Ice Age 3 super pack but I will wait until November to get that due to financial reasons

Ah, yes, that was the phrase I was looking for when I said slasher stuff. I can appreciate survival horror (I mean, I love zombie films), but it is really usually more action than horror, especially when it's not zombies (though now that zombies are usually fast and all, they're not usually that creepy either, just deadly). Anyway, for me, Trick r' Treat was something I'd been waiting a long time for. It was a Halloween horror movie that was about the holiday itself more than about some other horrible event that just happened to take place on Halloween, like a Michael Myers murder spree. I love anthology type horror films too. This one tells multiple stories like that, though it weaves them together like Pulp Fiction. It only lacked a good Halloween witch story. I have always wanted to see a horror film take on the old concept of a Wizard of Oz looking witch who lives in the creepy house on the block and steals children or whatever, rides a broom and all that. Hocus Pocus did it well with comedy, but I want to see a real horror film do it. Best stuff I've seen in that vein has been on Tales from the Darkside (or Monsters, I forget which), and it's still not exactly what I have in mind.

I've heard several other people go quite mad for Tales from the Darkside. I never even heard of it before a few years ago, as a television series. I assume that's what you were referring to. And even afterward, it's all faded into the background. What, did it air on Network television?

And agreed that this decade's idea of monsters (running zombies, CGI werewolves) and killers (classic 70's and 80's icons reborn as professional wrestlers with masks on

) are not scary. Though there is one exception. Just that one 45-minute episode of Fear Itself, "Skin & Bones." Too bad it wasn't released separately on DVD. A whole host of Wolf Creek's, Splinter's, and Hostel's aren't able to match that level of thorough character-oriented intensity, quality frightful storytelling, and honest nasty shock. If that thing were feature-length, it would be this decade's... well, actually- we have Ginger Snaps. But it could be right up there with the classics of decades previous. Larry Fessenden is definitely this decade's best horror director.

I'm going to check out TrT now that you've said the magic word: "Anthology."

Actually, Tales from the Darkside was a syndicated show. I used to catch it late nights on WGN when I was a kid (we don't even get WGN through our current provider, which is weird after growing up with it; I don't even know if it still exists). Of course, it was scarier then, but the best episodes are still fascinating.

Tomorrowland Man: Let the Right One In! I've been dying to see that!

As for me, today I picked up "Charlotte's Web" (animated, widescreen, the newer cover, which is kind of a crappy looking cover, but oh well) and "Happy Birthday To Me", both for 5 at Wal-Mart.

Yesterday from Big W I got....

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Diamond Edition Blu-ray + DVD - $28.98 (which is really cheap for a Blu-ray in Australia, let alone a new release).

Yes, that IS exceptionally cheap for a Blu-ray here in Australia. Other stores like Target and Kmart have the "Snow White" combo priced between $37-$42, so I hot-footed it over to Big W when I saw the advertised price in this week's catalogue! This bodes really well for the lowering of new release Blu-ray prices here in Oz.

The catalogue wasn't meant to begin until Thursday, but I bought it on Wednesday and still got it for the catalogue price. On the Wednesday, the DVD price was actually the same as the Blu-ray price, so that was a little bit exciting. There's also meant to be a bonus pillowcase, but I could only see the pillowcase with the DVD.
