There __have__ been many times when the sequel to an original movie has been better done, story and character wise. Harry Potter, Spiderman, Universal Studios Frankenstein all fit that pattern.
As much as I really liked this sequel, it doesn't stand a chance of overshadowing the original. The original has been around too long and has established itself as a classical icon. Even if we ignore popularity and just focus on filmmaking, Cindy III still can't give Cindy I a run for its money. The former has some fairly cringe-worthy moments and is more of an action spectacle. The latter is much more about emotions than action, and it handles those emotions with greater potency than the sequel does. The original has an overall feel of sophistication about it. It doesn't spell everything out for you, but implies various things. The sequel is blatant about what it has to say, and then says it over and over again. No, I don't think Cinderella III will ever overpower the first Cinderella, but I do think it'll be regarded as among the best of Disney's sequels and DTV films.

Of course Cinderella 3 wont overshadow the original, but i can assure you From this point on after you see Cindy 3, your lasting impressions are far stronger personality wise for every character including cinderella because of part 3.

I love part 1, but i also LOVE part 3.

Thanks Daniel Jake! Hey, make sure you stick around, 'cause I'll have to show you that poster I got with the DVD from Suncoast!

Atlanticaunderthesea, I totally agree about that ending, and I will be discussing my own ideas for a better ending when I critique the whole film. By the way, that Disney dust (thank you!) thing is very interesting, because I swear that when Anastasia used it on the Fairy Godmother, it was yellow! So I'll have to check, but it seems the magic changes color according to mood or perhaps intent. I can see how green matches the stepmother's eyes and brooch, but green is also the color of jealousy! And white of course is purity and goodness. I'll look into it more... And I know you and I loved that music in the trailer, that ended in, "Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhhh", but I did not hear that in the movie at all! It was so great, why wasn't that in there?! I was hoping for more music like that in the end.

And Disneykid, you pointed out a lot in the film, something I'm sure I would have missed even while critiquing it as I plan on. You're very smart to pick out such directoral and story-telling flaws.

BambiFan87, I'll have to do some comparisons to make sure that's the same mill, but if it is that's so cool!

psifreek27, I must say, I agree. You appreciate the characters more after seeing III, I think.

Good points, but only time will tell for sure. Both films mirror their times well. How either of them holds up over the next 50 or 100 years remains anyone's guess.

But thanks to Lowry Digital, which had done its best to make Cindy 1 into a showcase presentation, rather than something residing on fading and deteriorating film stock, the "technical aspects" of the two films are now, save for the CGI in III, pretty close. That should make it easier to compare their stories and messages as time passes.

Okay, here are the pictures of the free poster I got when I pre-ordered Cinderella III: A Twist In Time from Suncoast! When I got it, I was quite surprised, and had a mixed reaction. It was small and cardboard, a downside, but it was the theatrical re-release poster (although I don't know which re-release, I'm guessing it's from the first time it was re-released, apparently that was 1957), so that was where I had a mixed feeling, because owning a reproduction of the older Cinderella artwork is cool, but I was hoping for something like a poster for Cinderella III that was different from the cover and looked like a theatrical poster, even though it wasn't in theaters. Anyway, on the back was another surprise because that had pictures of the characters with little descriptions for them that apply to their roles in Cinderella III. And I was so happy when Cinderella's description said, "There is nothing she won't do for her true love, including jumping from a runaway coach!", because it paid attention to the little UD quote we have here: "She jumped on her horse? Go Cindy!" I hope everyone can read the desciptions okay. I re-typed them just in case.

Stepmother: The wicked Stepmother still burns with hatred for Cinderella and feels it should have been one of her duaghters in the role of princess. She wants to weild the power behind the throne. When Anastasia steals Fairy Godmother's wand, Stepmother seizes her opportunity.

Cinderella: After a year of being princess, Cinderella is as sweet and generous as ever. But when Stepmother casts a spell to interfere with true love, Cinderella doesn't wait for the Prince to come to her, she goes to find him. There is nothing she won't do to save her true love, including jumping from a runaway coach.

The Prince: The Prince is an athletic swordsmen and horseman. But he's also a romantic, hoping to find true love like his dad had with his mom. He enjoys a good laugh, especially at his own expense, and is not afraid to butt heads with his blustery father, the King.

Jaq: Jaq, the fiesty, take-charge mouse, remains utterly devoted to his friend, Cinderella. He helps her rescue the Prince from Stepmother's spell.

Gus: Gus is Jaq's pudgy little sidekick. He's a little slow to understand Cinderella's plan, but he never wavers in his undying devotion to her.

Fairy Godmother: Though a little befuddled, Fairy Godmother is wise to the ways of the heart. She knows when to step in with magic to set things right, and when to let true love do its magic.

Anastasia: Cinderella's clumsy stepsister, Anastasia, is jealous of the Prince's love for Cinderella. When she sees the chance to get love by stealing Fairy Godmother's wand, she doesn't think twice. But she learns magic can't give her what she really wants - true love.

Drizella: Cinderella's other stepsister shares Stepmother's acerbic tongue and disdain for true love. She wants to be filthy rich, and will push aside anyone who gets in her way, including Anastasia.

Thanks Disney Duster! :)

Hmm, I think I would have mixed feelings aswell. Because, that's not what I was expecting you to receive either. However, I think that's cool, owning a replica of the original poster. And hey, at least you didn't pay a lot, it was free! :P

Oh, and the back is awesome! I love all the descriptions, and pictures.

Thanks again for posting it, Disney Duster!

I'm glad my comment has become so famous!

The posters are so lovely; its always lovely to own a but of history, and the Cindy III bit is really cool!

What I dont get though, is how come Cinderella herself hardly features on the poster?! My focus always looks at Jaq and Gus !! !! Still, its a cool poster to have!

Wow, really good work Flanger-Hanger!
Your color-choice is very good. Looks kind of dangerous, mysterious, and very wrong for poor Cinderelly ;)
