The Disney awards website posted the entire score you can listen to for free. Unfortunately it's no longer possible to download the mp3 files playing in the page. (I was a able to download the Incredibles 2 score while it lasted some 10 days ago).

If anyone knows of any workaround to download the music files, it would be very much appreciated.

The reviews are good, but not as great as it seemed they would be from the early reactions and all the awards. One of the main criticisms seems to be that it's too similar to the original movie.
This is the general consensus that I've been hearing as well that while the movie is good, it isn't nearly as grand as it's been made out to be. Interestingly enough, the most negative reviews are complaining about the recent glut of Disney remakes. I can't help but wonder if the public will start to lose interest in remakes after The Lion King.

I still think the metascore and the tomatometer will go up a bit. There are many reviews to add during the next two weeks.

Oh, and I'm so happy for Emily. I've been waiting for this moment for 12 years. It really feels like she could be nominated for an Oscar after being ignored so many times.

Yeah, and even the reviews that didn't necessarily care for the movie did say that Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins was easily the best part of the entire film. But seeing the critics reviews that did highly enjoy/love the movie does put a smile on my face.

Second question: during Turning Turtle— there is a line “Perhaps if you all lend a hand” which sounds a bit like Angela Lansbury to me, but it could be Meryl and I don’t recognize it because of the character voice. But it really sounds like Lansbury to me. Am I right?
Third question: any mention of George and Winifred Banks? Are we to assume they are dead, or is actually mentioned in the film? As I grown older, David Tomlinson’s Mr. Banks has really warmed to my heart. If they are dead, it’s very sad to me that the Banks has such limited time left with their children at the end of the original— 20 some years of less, I think? But I suppose that would almost strengthen the message of both films. I really appreciate that they’ve named the (youngest?) boy Georgie. Adorable.
And I totally hear The Sound of Music nods, too. When the overture begins, I see images of Salzburg in my head. That has to be deliberate, I think. As was the movie poster, which is very 60’s musical-style. Even some of the musical numbers like “The Cover is Not the Book,” are a little less “Poppins” and a little more “Oliver!,” another great sixties musical. All very fitting choices, I think, which illustrate how much care they’ve put into this production. I’m so very excited to see this film.
I think it will do gang busters at the box office, but I hope they let the franchise rest a bit. Give us another 10-25 years (at least) before revisiting Mary, with different actors in the lead roles again. Please, please, please Disney keep her special.
No problem, my friend!!
To answer your second question:
No, Angela was not in the Turning Turtle scene. She's only in the finale. Her character is mentioned early in the film, but we don't see her until Nowhere to Go But Up.
To answer your third question:
George Banks is mentioned several times. Winifred is hardly mentioned unfortunately. She's only mentioned when Jane and Michael say something like "Mother and Father did so and so." Hope that makes sense. Bert is mentioned once though!
Besides the opening number coming before the overture and the overture itself, the other Sound of Music reference is
After the main titles, a subtitle appears that states, "Cherry Tree Lane, London, in the days of The Great Slump." This is similar to the subtitle in Sound of Music that stated "Salzburg, Austria, in the last Golden Days of the Thirties." I also feel like the main titles sequence reminded me of the ones for Gigi, Oliver!, and Hello Dolly!. Those movies had paintings and drawings shown during their main titles, and that's exactly what occurs in Mary Poppins Returns.
Musical Master wrote:Glad to hear you really liked it tsom. It's too bad that Wilkins motivation is basic greed and that we need an obvious villain in a Mary Poppins sequel where I don't think it needs one. Yet personally, I can see why Wilkins needs to exist so that the story doesn't repeat the first film's plot and to have higher stakes; I only hope that it ultimately works in context of the movie.
I'm actually surprised that Colin Firth didn't get a villain number like Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, especially since he was a decent singer in Mamma Mia!.

I posted that Youtube playlist as a solution to download the extended score from the Disney Awards website, given that there are lots of online programs to download videos from Youtube, but now I've noticed that track 22 is blocked because of copyright infringement. I've also found an extension for Firefox that allows you to download the MP3 files directly from the Disney website. If you have Firefox, do the following:
1. Google "Firefox add-ons".
2. Click on the first result and type "video download helper" in the search bar. The icon has three circles.
3. Download the extension, then open the Disney Awards website. The icon for the extension will be in the top right corner of the browser.
It doesn't detect the files until you play them. One disadvantage it has is that (at least on that site) when you download the files, they all have the same name. So, I would download them one by one and rename each file after it has been downloaded. I've been able to download the score that way myself. I hope it works for you too.

Julie Andrews has seen Mary Poppins Returns.
Andrews, who won an Academy Award for her Mary Poppins performance, opted not to be in the sequel, but is said to have been very supportive of its production. “She has seen the film and wrote the most beautiful email about it,” Blunt revealed. “It was so moving.”

I have come to the conclusion that while casting Julie in Aquaman was definitely a deliberately shady move on behalf of WB, Julie probably only took the role because they (likely) offered her a ridiculous amount of money for very little work.

Just got out of seeing
Mary Poppins Returns and I have these quick things to say:
1. The numbers are wonderfully staged, filmed and sung plus hearing Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's great songs in stereo surround sound was so lush and full.
2. The story and plot are refreshingly the type of sequel that continues the story and not be a total rehash of the first film.
Plus with Wilkins it adds more stakes to the plot and Colin Firth is deliciously greedy which is quite a relief to see, plus him as the animated wolf adds to it with a nightmarish carriage chase which was one of the highlights of the film.
3. This is Rob Marshall's best film since
Chicago, maybe his best thus far.
4. Everyone from Emily Blunt to Lin Manuel Miranda did a fantastic job with special props to Emily as being an absolutely perfect Mary Poppins.
5. And yes
Karen Dotrice, Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury's cameos were pure delight!
6. Go see this movie as many times as you can!!

I saw the movie opening day. It is very good and very well made. It is respectful of the original’s legacy and it doesn’t diminish from it. Emily Blunt is very good in the role... she makes a few different choices than Julie did but is still recognizably Mary Poppins. She’s much more vain and she’s funnier with a drier sense of humor. She is curiously meeker, sitting through a tongue thrashing from her former charge which she never would have entertained 50 years ago. Sometimes you can see the gears turning in this Mary’s Head, too, as though she is forming her schemes as she goes along which is a new development. Walt’s Mary seemed to be perpetually 10 steps ahead of everyone else, all the time. This change makes her seem more human and a little less omnipotent. But Emily Blunt must be applauded for making the role her own, and standing up to the challenge. Her Mary was a delight, and as a fan of this character, I could rest easy early on because clearly my beloved nanny remained in good hands. Lin-Manuel Miranda gives a good performance, as does Meryl Streep in this film’s Uncle Albert role. I can very much believe Karen Dotrice grew up to be Emily Mortimer. The music is good but after listening to the soundtrack quite a bit and watching the movie, I am unconvinced that it quite measures up to the Sherman Brothers’ original— but that would be a very tall task, indeed.
They did an admirable job crafting a sequel to Disney’s magnum opus. It’s a good movie, if undeniably derivative. Mary Poppins Returns really feels like what a very good Mary Poppins movie should turn out like in the 2010’s, as despite its undeniable joy and quality production numbers, this movie has all the same dramatic defects of Disney remakes and soft remakes like Beauty and the Beast and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (unnecessary action scenes, overexplaining things that are really quite simple, retelling the same story in the guise of a sequel). To my mind, something special, unique and impossible to recreate happened in the 60’s. This film can never quite escape the shadow of the original, but it never really tries to, either.
I liked the film, and the finale almost made me well up. I will see it again in theatres, and certainly buy it on BD. This movie was always going to be a mixed carpet bag for me, I do appreciate the care and attention lavished on the film, and I’m very thankful to Rob Marshall and his team for that dedication.

Going to see it tomorrow night. Very excited. I have not listened to the soundtrack yet, because I really don't want any spoilers.

UPDATE:using Chrome, the file would not download and I would get a failed download error message but with Firefox I was able to do that just as you described. Thanks again.

Can I marry a movie?
This was just perfect. Ughhhh WE NEED MORE FILMS LIKE THIS.
Some numbers almost made me clap out loud in the middle of the cinema. I love it.
I just smiled from one end to the other and cried a lot during the end.

No problem. I'm glad it worked for you.

And thanks again for alerting us of the complete score. And for asking, because if you hadn't asked, I wouldn't have thought there was a way of downloading the files and I wouldn't have been able to download that score and the other ones on that website myself either.
