I cant seem to find the comment anymore, but I left a comment on a post by the sculptor of the Raya model asking point blank, was the design altered from the earlier posters, because I preferred the smaller eyes of the older model. She didn't respond, but did "like" it. Take from that what you will.

I think the comment may have been since deleted.

This is the person responsible for the model.

A Japanese TV spot has been released, though it doesn't feature any new footage.

Also, the other day I posted positive reactions by people from Southeast Asian descent, but there are also others who are more critical of Disney's take on their culture:

Fans aren’t too happy about ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’s’ Southeast Asian rep

I believe your comment is still there, but on this post instead of on the one you posted a link to. I think it's evident the model has changed since that leaked image, but Rapunzel, Anna or Elsa also looked different in their final models than in the first leaked images we saw of them, so I guess it's not something that uncommon in movies like these. However, Raya's overall look hasn't changed much since that concept art released at the D23 Expo more than a year ago. Tuk Tuk, though, looks much cuter now:

Image Image

I said this before, but I really like the design and color scheme of her outfit. Her face may be a little generic or similar to previous princesses, but I think the other elements of her look really make her look unique.

By the way, I've now noticed that the design of the Dragon Gem has apparently changed since D23 (unless it's the angle what makes it look different):

Image Image

And I've found further evidence that your theory might be correct, Disney's Divinity. What looks like a drop symbol (which could be related to water and the power of the gem) can be found in several places: on the piece of armour Raya has on her arm, on her sword and the interior of her cape, as well as on the bracelet and pants from young Raya. Check it out here.

I'm glad Tuk Tuk doesn't talk, but I'm also surprised that they don't try to do that sort of sidekick because you'd think they'd want to make another Olaf to capitalize on that.

Another thing: do you think this film will have a fairytale feeling to it? I know that Raya is meant to become a Disney Princess and I know that the teaser might not be representative of the film, but I got Big Hero 6 vibes more than Tangled/Frozen/Moana vibes. However, it might have to do more with the fact that it's not a musical, yet Brave wasn't a musical and it felt like a fairytale so hopefully Raya will have the same feeling eventually.

First look at Sisu in human form from a doll packaging. Images of the doll itself here.

I like it. I don't know why the face is making me think of Whoopi Goldberg.

Here's the new look at Raya on that same doll box:

I like it too. She looks better than I had expected.

^whoa that's a hell of a leak! Is that the older Raya design? I like that design a lot more that the newer one which just looks too much like Moana to me.

As for Sisu, I dont know why but the first thing that came to me when I saw her was teen/adult Noodle from Gorillaz. I guess its her uglycute face with the snub nose. I actually love it!

It looks like the new design to me, but I agree that she looks great in that clip art.

Thank you so much for posting this, D82! She looks great! Can`t wait to see the rest of the dolls.

So what? :P I like the leaks, to get a peak of what the characters look like ;) And sure, I`m being outspoken now, but to deny this fact would`ve been a lie.

You're welcome. :) I can't wait to see them either!

I like leaks too. :D

By the way, I've noticed Sisu's hair is several colors and not just white. And I now wonder if she's meant to look like an old woman or not. Maybe she just has whitish magical hair (similar to Elsa), but is supposed to have the appearance of a young woman.

I'll post the images of the doll too in case they get removed:

I think it'll probably be a bit more focused on the action than those films, but still have a fairy tale feeling to it as well. We'll see. One of the directors co-directed Big Hero 6, though, so I guess it's not strange you got Big Hero 6 vibes from the teaser.

That makes sense, D82. We'll see when the film comes out.

Thank you for posting the Sisu image. I like her design and I think her hair is unique. The facial expression bodes ill and I don't understand why her mouth is like Anne Hathaway's from The Witches, but other than that it's nice.

I agree about the hair. As for her mouth, I don't know, maybe her smile is so wide because when she's a human she still retains some of the traits she has as a dragon.

This shame it has to happen yet through another leak. It would have been so much better if we could have had at least one first official glimpse of her through the trailer.
On the other hand, I'm glad her design finally came out. Now we can all discuss it! :)

Quite so

If that's so, Disney artists took the decision to change its design drastically :) I assume that maybe what was showed last year at D23 was potentially a preliminary model.
Before that, it was globally spherical carved in flat surfaces all around. Not shaped in what seems to be a triangle.
Actually you can see the Dragon Gem in that one art of Sisu as a Dragon shared a year ago (it's on the right side next to her.)
Also (small detail) the light emerging from the stone while awaken was green in the clip, not blue despite what one can see from Sisu art.

I`m glad you do ;) We`re a kindred spirit ;)

It`s remarkable that Sisu gets her own doll, as none of the previous old sidekicks has really had their own dolls. At least it would never happen if Mattel was the distributor, so I guess Hasbro must have a different policy about it. The side characters in Frozen II got their own dolls (Matthias, Agnarr and Iduna), but at least they weren`t as old characters, as Sisu (at least it made sense that Ryder and Honeymaren got their own dolls, since they were as marketable as Anna and Elsa). Remember that Maui in Moana had his own doll. But at least he was a major character, after all.

Love love Sisu's human designs!!! It doesn't help that march were supposed to be out by now. I believe that WDAS does the leaks first, but this could be a happy consequence.

I see in a lot of places that people assume that Cassie Steele was let go by the studio, but how do we know that she didn't decide to leave possibility after the movie changed direction?

@D82: Yeah, I definitely think they're carrying over her acting dragon-esque in her human form. For some reason I'm imagining her doing yoga upside down or something. The whole personality of those pictures is very Awkwafina, so I guess I sort of already expected this myself?

I hope I'm right about the storyline, too. I like the idea of the dragon bringing back the rain and life, and with actual consequences like a growing desert and people who've been turned to stone (and perhaps a betrayal by the girl from one of the lesser tribes)--the stakes will be more present than they were with the darkness caused by Te Fiti's missing heart in Moana. I really only remember Moana's nightmare being a part that made me feel the pressure on her. A lot of it felt like a very distant coming threat, sort of like climate change--something that'll take 10 years or more before the full effects start to hit. I just hope the Druun have impressive designs.
