^ Yes, I agree with that artist, who's art is always very good but that art is SPECTACULAR and professional and better than some Disney art we have been seeing...

But the point he brings up is what happened to Rapunzel's design? Did Glen Keane actually want it to change into what we saw in the movie, or did his hand-drawn designs just not translate well into the CGI?

If not, why couldn't this:

...be translated well into the CGI? I have a hard time believing that if they put Ariel and other Disney characters into PhillharMagic, they couldn't put that design successfully into this CGI film.

I was searching for some Rapunzel adaptations and one of them, played by Jeff Bridges, Shelley Duvall and Gena Rowlands, caught my attention especially. The witch is a lot like what I think it might be Gothel!
Sorry, it's in spanish! I cannot find the english version

I loved those pictures you had from DavidKawena, sotiris, but I think you left out my favorite of his (of Rapunzel):

http://davidkawena.deviantart.com/#/d2xdyt6

And, yes, I agree with him on Rapunzel's design.

Btw, the concept art of Rapunzel's room in the tower is beautiful, and I love the mood it evokes. It's kind of surprising though, because what I've seen from film stills, it looks more childish and a little less powerful in the actual film. Maybe the stills I've seen won't compare to the actual movie though.

 Even just looking at the "1,000 Faces of Flynn" artwork, I laughed at the smolder. :p

And the third artwork that sotiris2006 posted kind of makes my heart break that this isn't hand-drawn. I'm okay with it and accept it as CG, and it looks beautiful in CG, but wow, that Rapunzel looks amazing.

I love your style PrinceKido, it is very cute.

But I do not know about it for Rapunzel...or maybe it's just Rapunzel's design?

However, your style is very very loveable on your own works. I like when you do your own thing. I also like your miniature Rapunzel characters. It is only this cover, and only Rapunzel on it, that I am not sure of.

A little feature on D23's website:

08.09.10 - We can't wait until November 24 when Tangled hits theaters, but until then, we wanted to introduce you to the creative team behind this upcoming fairy-tale adventure.

The cover story for the fall issue of Disney twenty-three shines a spotlight on Walt Disney Animation's latest film, Tangled. This retelling of the classic tale about Rapunzel, a long-haired girl in search of her true self — who finds a few surprises along the way (including the handsome rogue Flynn Rider!) — is sure to make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings and entertain the entire family. The film doesn't hit theaters until November 24, but we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to the creative team behind this upcoming fairy-tale adventure.

!!!!!!!

Is Glen Keane putting outlines on the characters...?

Or is he drawing to show the artists how they should make their CGI look, like, to make them try to match his drawn lines?

OMG! If they only made it all look like the lines in that image...then it would be so much better, more fairy tale, and perfect!

Yes, it looks like he's correcting some things like the mouth position and he's marking the hair movement too (It seems that the hair is the last thing to animate, because in the last test animation video we saw, Rapunzel and Gothel's hair was only a block without movement)
I can't wait to see footage of the completed film!!!
I'm so curious about Rapunzel's hair animation! =)

By the way: Any news about that Tangled TV advert where there was an animation of Rapunzel brushing her hair??
Someone told us that was on the Nickelodeon channel, but no one has recorded it =(

Yup, that's exactly it. He talked about this in some detail at Comic Con. He would literally draw over the animation to show everyone what he thought would be better. The main example they showed us was the teaser footage of Flynn.

I'm glad to see more behind-the-scenes material coming out :) Hopefully soon we'll see some things involving the cast. Or, you know, another trailer

That's wonderful!:D

If only this movie had been 2D... (I'm calling it Rapunzel btw. Tangled? My friends will not understand what I'm talking about if I call it Tangled.)

Hey fellow Americans - GOOD NEWS !!!

I live in Montreal, Canada and I was worried about Canada getting the title ''Tangled'' as Canada is a bilingual country. Tangled doesn't translate well in French and I couldn't picture a logo with those translated terms.

So tonight I went to Toys R Us to check the Rapunzel dolls just so I could see the logo on the boxes - AND it seems we are getting RAPUNZEL !!!! (there is the French title all over the box)

So this means if you'll want to have a DVD in region 1 with the title Rapunzel, you might want to buy it in Canada LOL

But it doesnt really say much about what English-speaking Canada will get.

nonetheless, maybe I'll get lucky. I have relatives in Ontario.

The Mattel dolls in the US also say "Rapunzel".... so just so you know, that doesn't quite mean anything. :)
