It's a start. Even though the Anthology set had such a plethora of bonus features, I'm glad that there are a few new features to savor. I'm so excited for this release!

I've always wondered where cover art normally is found first. I'm really looking forward to this seeing this one, too. Plus, once we see the cover art, we'll get a better idea of how Disney plans on releasing these two films (we've heard of the box set, but cover art could confirm individual releases and other details).

The simple answer is, they probably still don't know themselves.

According to the new modified advert of the Fantasias on the James and the Giant Peach combo (which strangely was only on the DVD disc, not the Blu-ray...), it advertises Destino (obviously, and after the trailer, it seems to me like in its entirety) but advertising of Fantasia World has been removed completely from the trailer.

Also, they are no longer advertised as Diamond Editions, and are now a "2-Movie Collection," which leads me to believe the two films will be packaged together. DVD versions are still being advertised.

Well, I guess that confirms a couple of things and raises more questions. Confirms that they are no longer Diamond Editions (as speculated), and it confirms DVD versions (which I don't think were advertised on the previous trailer). It brings up the questions; What was Fantasia World exactly and has it been dropped?

Hmm, this gets more and more interesting everyday. With Fantasia/2000 probably not being released as a Diamond title, does that make room for Aladdin again, or are they just going to "skip" over this whole thing like it never happened? I know this is the Fantasia thread, so forgive me for venturing off topic for a second!!

I thought about this too.. I REALLY hope they add Aladdin back into the Diamond Collection. I could see them adding it back in, but I could just as easily see them leaving both the Fantasias and Aladdin out.

If Fantasia - one of the highest selling home video titles of all time, and one of the highest grossing films of all time - doesn't qualify as a Diamond Edition, then the whole Diamond Edition line is a joke.

I'd have to agree with you.. I can't say for certain that they're out of the line, but I can't think of any other reason why they would modify their original trailer of the Fantasias and take out the part advertising them as Diamond Editions (which is an important marketing aspect, in my opinion). I also couldn't understand why the trailer was only on the DVD of James and the Giant Peach and not the Blu-ray..

But then again, just because a movie is one of the most high-selling titles ever doesn't necessarily make it qualified for the Diamond Edition line, supposedly.

They could always be selling the unedited version, which would explain the lack of marketing. The Diamond Edition releases always have a BIG marketing push, with tie-ins, big price drops, and a ton of commercials. By dropping the Diamond status, they're free to sell it as a premium set, pack it with adult oriented supplements aimed at collectors, release it unedited, and not have to mass-market it. This way, the adult/collector demographic of the Fantasia films will know about it without the huge marketing push while it would fall under the radar of mainstream America (who probably wouldn't like it anyways). I know I'm reaching with this one but even when edited you get parents bitching about the Chernabog, nudity, lack of dialogue, or length.

They can't just say its a Diamond Edition on the trailers and then drop the title.

Fantasia has achieved tremendous sales ever since poor Walt Disney died and the generation raised on his work became adults, parents, and grandparents themselves. There is no question that Fantasia would have been a Platinum, had the Platinum line existed when Fantasia came to DVD - in a way, it was the 1st Platinum. Sure parents complain about children being conversely bored and terrified by the movie, but thankfully that adult generation has been around celebrating the movie since the late 60's.

On one hand, I feel like the initial box office failure of Fantasia was an epic tragedy for Disney animation, as was the epic success of the Ashman/Menken musicals - these two events have warped the idea of what a Disney film is and should be, when the truth is, Disney Feature Animation can be damned near anything, given enough time, talent, and conviction. The governing rules should simply be high quality family entertainment. Some films may skew younger, some older, but the guiding principle of quality and leadership in animation should never be neglected.

I personally don't care what the "collection" name is on the jacket, but as usual, it is going to drive me up the wall hearing people claim the movie is somehow inferior to the likes of Beast and Mermaid because of how the movie is sold.

As for what Disney says versus what Disney does...

The Pinocchio VHS from 1992 was to be the last ever released in the century (I shit you not, I remember the commercials), but it was re-released in 1999 and 2000.

"Gold Classic Collection" DVD titles were to remain in print "forever" as the family alternative to later spruced-up collector-focused Special Editions (only some of which went into fruition), but gradually most of the titles went out of print since 2003.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was initially announced in its press release as a 2-disc set, with most of its laserdisc features intact, then the press release was pulled a few hours later and replaced with one making it a single-disc set, which is what was released in 2002.

Mary Poppins was announced as part of the Masterpiece Edition series on DVD, initially to be released in mid-2004 but slightly delayed until December 2004.

Pocahontas was announced as part of the Masterpiece Edition series on DVD, initially to be released in mid-2004, but delayed until May 2005.

Lilo & Stitch was announced as part of the Masterpiece Edition series on DVD, initially to be released in mid-2004, but continually delayed until 2009 (in R1).

Tarzan and The Emperor's New Groove were promoted as 2-disc sets in 2005, then released single-disc versions in R1.

They promoted The Aristocats as a 2-disc set to be released March 2007, and it got delayed to a single-disc set released February 2008.

They promoted the Platinum "line" as having ten titles with a moratorium of 10 years, then changed it to 14 titles with a moratorium of 7 years, ultimately ending with 13 titles and a moratorium of 5 years on one title (Sleeping Beauty was released in 2003 and 2008 ).

I agree, especially with the bold part. But I know someone who won't.

This release has potential but somehow I see Disney screwing it up beyond repair.

So...this could potentially be a testing ground for releasing Song of the South...!!!

And I'm thrilled about Destino- it's way overdue- but I personally wish that it would get its own release, for people who may not want to double-dip on Fantasia...
