Disney Video Beta is basically Disney's own YouTube. While there aren't any full-length movies on there, there are a lot of the promotional or bonus-like material, including trailers, clips, songs, etc. Things are divided into "Collections": Disney Fairies, Disney Parks, Disney Princess, Pixar, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and Friends, Disney Channel, etc.
On the Mickey and Friends page, they've uploaded several full classic short films that you can watch right then and there for free. Mickey and the Seal, How to Hook Up Your Home Theater, The Art of Skiing, Clock Cleaners, Early to Bed, Chef Donald, Hawaiian Holiday, Mickey Down Under, and several more. At this point, there's probably a good 40-50 full shorts on there, plus a bunch of the Have a Laugh stuff.
Everything is very well-organized and the video quality is really great. Basically, the site is another toe in the water for the "Disney Movies Anywhere" service. It seems like they're just figuring out how they want to display, organize, and present their library. I'm guessing that what we'll end up seeing hopefully later this year is a combination of Disney Movies Online and Disney Video Beta.

As for your what's so great about digital question... there are many answers to that. I think my biggest reason is that I will have Disney's entire library, right there, all in one place, for me to enjoy whenever and however I please. That means I can watch it on my TV, on my computer, my phone, my tablet, my friend's computer, my grandma's TV... literally, wherever I want, all without having to carry something around with me. In order to do that today, I'd have to carry around hundreds and hundreds of DVDs everywhere I go, and I would have had to rip all of those hundreds and hundreds of DVDs (and the just the main feature, all the bonuses too) if I wanted to enjoy them on the go on my phone or tablet. It's a combination of convenience, customization, and the sheer mass amount of material that will be available.
Basically, we'll have the Disney Vault at our fingertips, at all times, everywhere. I don't get how people around here, the "hardcore" Disney fans, aren't more excited for that.
