Disney Video Beta is basically Disney's own YouTube. While there aren't any full-length movies on there, there are a lot of the promotional or bonus-like material, including trailers, clips, songs, etc. Things are divided into "Collections": Disney Fairies, Disney Parks, Disney Princess, Pixar, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and Friends, Disney Channel, etc.

On the Mickey and Friends page, they've uploaded several full classic short films that you can watch right then and there for free. Mickey and the Seal, How to Hook Up Your Home Theater, The Art of Skiing, Clock Cleaners, Early to Bed, Chef Donald, Hawaiian Holiday, Mickey Down Under, and several more. At this point, there's probably a good 40-50 full shorts on there, plus a bunch of the Have a Laugh stuff.

Everything is very well-organized and the video quality is really great. Basically, the site is another toe in the water for the "Disney Movies Anywhere" service. It seems like they're just figuring out how they want to display, organize, and present their library. I'm guessing that what we'll end up seeing hopefully later this year is a combination of Disney Movies Online and Disney Video Beta.

Here's some screenshots of the site. Click the images to see full size.

As for your what's so great about digital question... there are many answers to that. I think my biggest reason is that I will have Disney's entire library, right there, all in one place, for me to enjoy whenever and however I please. That means I can watch it on my TV, on my computer, my phone, my tablet, my friend's computer, my grandma's TV... literally, wherever I want, all without having to carry something around with me. In order to do that today, I'd have to carry around hundreds and hundreds of DVDs everywhere I go, and I would have had to rip all of those hundreds and hundreds of DVDs (and the just the main feature, all the bonuses too) if I wanted to enjoy them on the go on my phone or tablet. It's a combination of convenience, customization, and the sheer mass amount of material that will be available.

Basically, we'll have the Disney Vault at our fingertips, at all times, everywhere. I don't get how people around here, the "hardcore" Disney fans, aren't more excited for that.

If you want a more lengthy description of where I see Disney's digital future headed, see my topic on Disney Movies Anywhere: http://www.dvdizzy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30027

thanks for the info! It does look very nice.

I've seen the thread and I have responded as well. sadly, as I've said before digital is great only if you are an American. otherwise it's just another grand way to apply DRM and region locks on media content..

there is gonna be a hell of a party in a few years with the mistakes the industry makes

Yeah, that never occurs to me until someone points it out. That really is a load of crap. I still don't really understand why that happens. Hopefully we'll see a shift there in the coming years when digital really starts picking up steam.

It's awesome how they're showing the old Mickey Mouse cartoons on the website.

But some of them are a bit nightmare- fuelish. What a young child bumps into a cartoon short like The Mad Doctor ?

Or am I just turning into a PC like parent even though I have no kids lol.

I tried accessing Disney Videos Beta, but I keep getting redirected to the Disney Italy site, no doubt due to my country's closeness to Italy.

The Disney website is uber annoying.

You're Welcome.

I'm so happy for Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone!

But I wonder what happened to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Special Edition :(

It's not on the list of this month!

Over at amazon.fr, the cover art for the DVD/Blu-ray of 'Wreck-It Ralph' has been revealed. It says that it will be released on December 05, 2012 but that must be an error.

Why is every french title 'les monde de'.... It's so played out and unimaginative. I mean I get how it works in relation to 'game worlds', but how bland is "the world of Nemo", "the world of Narnia" and "the worlds of Ralph"

These prehistoric VHS covers are quite sad really.... The UK Rescuers BD and the Dutch single disc BD's for both films:

I think I'll hold out a little longer for The Rescuers release. I'm hoping they pull a Fantasia and release The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under together in a box set with the U.S. cover for the slip-case and the individual cases (and individual covers) housed inside... Fingers crossed.

It's likely to happen. At least, they are offering in Germany such a box:
