I found a Madam Alexander doll they are making of Disney's Rapunzel. I actually own one of their other Rapunzel dolls (they have made at least three other designs, each one is different).

Rapunzel has a piece of her leg missing (when they say "you could get tangled up with..." look at her leg)

I saw one TV ad where they're playing a remake of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". (ugh )

The same song was featured in a demo trailer that was leaked online last March.

I think she puts her foot behind he hair on the floor, the leg don't dissapear =) Look

I am very sad she has no chance of it growing back at all. Not that I would expect her to have super long hair, but it would be nice if she could grow it to a normal length of mid back or to her waist. Very short hair is not the style for her time period.

Well, it does fit in the story ofcourse, but i'd like her to have midlenght hair as well. I just think short hair isn't princessy enough-not that i don't like short hair, but i just don't like it on disney princesses. I didn't like the movie Sinbad because the female lead had short hair... it just did not seem right.

A case could've been made that being rich or privileged doesn't really make one "superior" to the other. That by right, Cinderella's resilience under such difficult circumstances compared to her stepsisters' impatience with very trivial things made Cindy a stronger person. Any such personality contrast was barely hinted in the "Sweet Nightingale" segment.

And YES, the Prince was under-developed. We never find out what he did for a living, he didn't have any involvement in the drive behind the ball (so the King can have grandkids), the search for the mystery girl he danced with was done for him, and assuming he's a grown man capable of his own decisions, it ultimately felt like he was programmed to "love" Cindy. He's so severely under-developed that he doesn't even have a name!

All I can say is maybe because Cinderella tries to be happy despite what happened to her, and we meet her a long time after her parents are gone and she's used to her new situation, and she's more focused on the happy future, you didn't feel the pschological weight. Maybe she should have talked about her dead parents more, I don't know, but one thing she tried to do was not let her stepfamily get to her.

Next, Cinderella may have known about her fairy godmother already. When she talks about her magic wand, Cinderella says, "Then you must be..." But we don't know what she was gonna say. After the ball, she looks up to the sky and thanks her fairy godmother. I always thought that, coupled with the sparkling fairy godmother's magic on the glass slipper, made it feel like her Fairy Godmother was watching over her and perhaps intervening.

I think we learn at least how Cinderella feels about lots of things, and that she particularly likes fashion (even making the mice clothes). I think Cinderella is supposed to be compared to her stepsisters without being obvious, I suppose the "Sing Nightingale" sequence is the most obvious one.

I will say you are about right on the Prince, except that the King was about to give up on the ball, and Prince Charming was giving his father looks that he didn't want to be there, until Cinderella showed up, and she was "the girl of his dreams" as the Duke says, and he decided to walk over to her, to get her, so he couldn't have been programmed or forced to love her.

Finally, I just want to know what you meant by "The Fairy Godmother's appearance was a convenient response to the weakest part of her psyche." I just want more elaboration, especially if you went to psyche class and used that in your assesment.

I can assure you that no psychology classes were involved in my more cerebral-than-usual reception towards a classic Disney feature.

The Fairy Godmother is more of a deus ex machina. The first we ever hear of her is the exact moment that Cinderella loses her cool. To the film's credit, they were doing what was based from the original story, and it does help that by leaving her with both slippers, her presence was still there long after she left.

Also, when I said the Prince (Prince Nameless ) was programmed to love Cinderella, I was referring to the "love at first sight" aspect. Other than his being at the ball in accordance to father's wishes, this probably ties into the complication behind the fact that Cinderella's glass slipper seemed to fit only ONE person in the entire kingdom, which the Duke pointed out earlier. I just feel that since they weren't following any particular tradition where so-and-so had to marry by a certain age, the ball should've been more about what the Prince wanted.

This is where I feel that the more recent princess features have improved upon their predecessors, where both the prince AND the princess need an ounce of personality and background in order for their inevitable romance to feel more genuine. Aladdin is a good example; maybe they played up the "love at first sight" bit when Al first saw Jasmine at the marketplace. But that could've been a passing crush if he didn't have to save her life in the next few minutes. In any case, both sides would have to do their own homework, instead of allowing everything to be spoonfed to them, in order to earn their romance.

That's what i could make out.. it sounds like a great scene, Rapunzel finally stepping up to her 'mother' now!
